  1. It was just dumb luck, I saw a difference. I think it was the different staple placement, I noticed first. Which is the same thing you noticed with the first arc #4s. Yup, the plump and rosier colored background to #4 and the thinner and more muted background(found in SDCC Slipcases that year). Same deal with the Head Games #4 variant, which had a "ghosting" issue on their bottoms of the SDCC slipcase versions of that year. All reported back in the thread. Just where, I do not know. It's a pain in the butt to search on dial-up.
  2. Right I always get that mixed up The black & gray one is indeed the one I want though its a cover I aim to get regardless Anyone have a link to a cover Gallery handy ?.. I use comic collector live website ... http://www.comiccollectorlive.com/LiveData/Search.aspx just enter "Locke & Key" and hit the search ... then select the series you want, with the grid view. Not sure if it has all the covers though ... prolly pretty close. They haven't been keeping up lately in the image gallery for these books. Not that I have been with my Registry Set pictures either.

  4. $225.50 in raw? Didn't I tell you this was a rare book to get Mike? This book is just not out there, for the completists of this title. I remember, ComicDiva added it to her Registry Set and I immediately congratulated her. All the great sets need one. Best $100+, I ever spent on mine. Now go out and hunt for the IDW: First 10 Years floppy. It has an isolated Locke & Key story, not yet collected anywhere. Collectors are gonna go gaga over it. ...Don't be a drag, just be a queen. ...Don't be a drag, just be a queen. ...Don't be a drag, just be a queen.
  5. I would hope that everyone here reads the story... The last issue was great. I would assume the final issue will be shipping around the first week of April. Can't wait. Read it after I got home from my father passing at the hospital and doing all the paperwork with my mother and attending a mini-ceremony for him(with an American flag quilt over him in his bed). Lets just say, I felt in the same boat with the state of shock Tyler was in, in that issue. Everything he was experiencing didn't feel real to me either and yet was happening. Pitch perfect writing, IMHO.
  6. Well, as the prospect of awesome set pictures threaten to be leaked out all over the internet, and awareness of this property begins, this site will be discovered eventually and new collectors will want in too, like The Walking Dead. Maybe not as much, but pretty up there, considering the potential youth audience because of the main characters.
  7. But, they do get first pick of the best of the best. Witness the Signature Series CGC 10 Head Games Signed Editions. In this hobby, that's all that counts sometimes. Well, until then I'm going through back issues with my comic handling gloves or buying uber graded issues to build a perfect Registry set.
  8. That's a common defect from what I have seen(seen them in 9.8's with slight ones actually).
  9. I imagine most of the variants never left the IDW warehouse originally.
  10. Well, in my best New Hampshire accent... "I cahn't bid. I haf to make a cahr payment 'dis week, afta, I submitt'd a Creepshow in fast track and bought a 9.9 Locke & Key. Spilll it Speck! What 9.9?? Don't hurt me. It was the regular version of Keys To The Kingdom #4. The variant to that issue is proving very difficult for me to get in 9.8 or above. The #5 book is gonna be a special book for me too, so I would like to get that in high grade. I wouldn't hurt YOU!! I know.

  12. [in my best southern little girl voice] And I helped! Better a lurker than a creeper... ...and some major league kudos to you for helping me on these boards.
  13. Oh... and welcome Matt. I was a long-time lurker myself(5 years). Hope you are enjoying the L&K thread.
  14. I was shocked they didn't sell here, actually. I'm not. I feel blacklisted when I try to sell on these boards. The only books of mine that get sold are the ones I give away for postage. The little cliques here don't like me. I was glad my Supergirls didn't sell. I was in Nashua, thinking "What have I done!". I drove really fast home over the frost heaves to pull those down. I love those books.

  16. I believe it had a 100-150 print run, with about 25 or so actually dispersed to dealers for the 1:10 ratio. At the time, alot people were saying Locke & Key, was not hot anymore and an overhyped book(Stumptown, Choker, etc...), so retailers didn't want to risk ordering a reprint with a $6 price tag. I have always compared this variant to the Ultimate Spider-Man Target Variant #1, based on it's scarcity.
  17. Wasn't a fan of the lower right hand front corner of the other #3 CGC 10 either. Like always, I kept the "perfect" one. Yeah, the scuffing(from neighboring books, their staples or fingernails) alone in the rough area outside the embossed sections, will make it impossible for many. You see this alot on the first two issues and their second prints(kudos for Cher for "turning back time" and "finding a way" to get a 9.9 second print of #1 years later).
  18. Thanks. It's harder to get 9.9 and 10's lately. Alot of collectors and myself included believe CGC is a bit harsher on IDW books lately, and grade them more on a more fair curve despite their perfect structures. You are gonna get alot of 9.8's now. I somewhat agree with this. It protects the amount of mints allowed in the census. I believe in my heart if the other CGC 10 of #1 was graded today, it would get a 9.8 too. My
  19. Good Luck. My books got graded today. 5 Jetpack Comic Variants of The Cape #1's in CGC 9.9s 3 Doctor Who Classics #2(regular) in CGC 9.8s(1st L&K preview) 2 Cory Doctorow whatevers in CGC 9.8s(2nd L&K preview and lowest print run).
  20. Locke & Key was mentioned on page 30 of next week's Entertainment Weekly.
