  1. Agreed, too young. Everybody compliments the talented Louise Jameson for following up the iconic Elizabeth Sladen, but never Mary Tamm's exceptional work she briefly did. Lalla Ward never had a chance after those three. She would just wind up as a less chatty Katy Manning.
  2. I forgot how much I enjoyed Mary Tamm, after she took over for Louise Jameson. So, I bought "The Androids of Tara" yesterday. Granted, "The Robots of Death" would have been a better choice, I think that was with Jameson, but, I remembering enjoying "...Tara" as a kid.
  3. It is a key episode, especially with the "Sisterhood of the Karn" later appearing in the Paul McGann bridge to the under-appreciated John Hurt "War Doctor" and early ninth series (Modern.) Loved that episode as a kid.
  4. I re-watch them very carefully. The Hartnell's always felt a little cold, I never watched enough Troughton's, the Pertwee's are very dated now, but the Baker/Hinchcliffe's are still amazing. Graham Williams did a fine job taking over for a bit. By "Nightmare in Eden" things were getting too madcap. Not bad for a kid, but nothing you want to revisit as an adult. I liked the Davison years, but the music is just a bit... off. For me, I personally find the Baker and McCoy shows, unwatchable. Well, 90% of them.
  5. OK, what's the deal with "The Brain of Morbius?" When Tom Baker and Morbius is mind wrestling, were all those previous doctors that show up on the screen after Hartnell (I know, it was BBC staff members,) then-past itierations of the Doctor or Morbius? The commentary said they were the Doctor in a continuity glitch. I always thought they were Morbius's other regenerations.
  6. Yes, he was theatrical, but I believe he was trying to play all the Doctors in his regeneration. I think I heard that somewhere. Behind his eyes was a madness as the asylum in his head was full of lunatics who always managed to save the galaxy. It was great acting, with poor costumes, special effects and writing. Hartnell was overly theatrical, as was Baker at times. Baker was a clown, like McCoy, but Baker knew when get serious, when the plot dictated it, whereas McCoy never really knew how to adjust to that. The world is about to end and you can't keep acting like a John Steed when you are a badly dressed Joe Pesci. Take for instance, Tom Baker in "Seeds of Doom." I watched that last night. When everything got serious and Cordy was ready to throw the Doctor out to the giant plant monster, Baker would explode at him after spending three episodes belittling him. That's acting!
  7. LOL, I was just watching "Pyramids of Mars" ("Sutekh must live!") I was trying to get in the spirit after buying a bunch of Baker DVD's on ebay. Lost out on "The Horror of Fang Rock" and "Face of evil" last night though.
  8. I'll be viewing it across the pond when it comes to Blu Ray on January 29th. I had my hopes up since it was rated at a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, but that was just 33 critics.
  9. So... on a scale of Tom Baker being the best (Capaldi best new series doc, imho ) to Sylvester McCoy being the worst (at everything,) I cannot believe anything could be as bad as a McCoy episode?
  10. Bought "Destiny of the Daleks" tonight. Terry Nation's last Dalek scripted one. Just watching it piece by piece, as I used to do nightly as a kid while watching PBS. I dunno the Romana regeneration scene doesn't feel as ridiculous as I remembered it. After "Shada," Lalla Ward has grown on me. She's no Mary Tamm, but she tried. The "Terror Nation" doc was outstanding. Really in the mood to get another Terry Nation one now, "The Android Invasion." I have his other non-Dalek one, "The Keys of Marinus" (the Doctor goes all Perry Mason) somewhere.
  11. Well... Let's go back 39 years for a moment. I finally watched "Shada." This now completes my Tom Baker era after I started, way back in 1981. Ever since "The Five Doctors," my expectations of this show had haunted me into wondering about this "lost episode" and if I would ever see it. Despite some of the villain's wardrobe choices, including the one that he pranced around in Cambridge in, I really liked it. Yet, I felt like a kid again, watching a new Tom Baker episode on the tube. But, I felt the colorized animation was more intrusive, then the ones in "The Tenth Planet" and "The Power of the Daleks." However, some of the effects are rather endearingly clunky. I was glad they didn't enhance them too much. The additional bonus features were pretty good too, giving you insight about the strike that halted production of this episode. The real treat in this episode happens at the very end. It's good to see old Tom back in the scarf again. ***1/2 out of ***** stars.
  12. Anybody buying the "complete" version of Shada? I know I am going to. Available at Wally-World for $19.99 in tax-free NH.
  13. But, I did recently buy a TARDIS blue car.
  14. When I get my real-life mythologies down, I can't wait to jump into some Who. It's really been a ride. This one might wind up being FIVE articles.
  15. Just not in the mood to process something I want to watch right now. I have to finish two series of three articles first. :) All I can watch now is drivel like Skyscraper.
  16. Haven't caught it yet. I'm too busy writing. :)
  17. OOOOooooo... Anna Kendrick.... Maine's #1 import. Or is it export? ...who cares.
  18. Nope, I find that interesting. I think in the actual Man of Steel thread, in my original review, I said something like "I actually forgot about Reeve in the role." That doesn't come a lot either.
  19. I think a lot of kids will look at Cavill, like my generation looked at Reeve and the next generation liked Cain.
