  1. This raises a question i have had for some time. The new generation of CGC slab is considerably more difficult to break out of the slab. I had the old one down pat. Do you or anyone else have a process for cracking slabs? Could someone do a tutorial for the 'slab-cracking challenged" like me? I have damaged a couple of books already and need some advise. I love to crack out 9.4 and 9.6 - to me a slab is only for 9.8 in bronze or later.
  2. Forget his threads The way he manipulated his HOS removal makes him highly questionable Outlast your accusers and payoff the one who stuck around long enough , manipulations of a master And ‘no PayPal’ account, I am sure that’s for legit reasons Then he starts a thread on how he manipulated the stimulus for himself
  3. I love that cover! But isn't #166 more on topic? "1st comic appearance of the middle finger" .... needed an origin story to be key though...
  4. I am sure this has been mentioned already, but the "Rifleman #10" immediatly comes to mind. I don't think I have ever seen rifleman 1-9 before. And has anyone ever opened the cover to #10 and read that book?
  5. I am of an older vintage, there were no comic book conventions or LCS. Everything was newsstand. I had a paper route when i was 10 that fed my comic book collecting habit. And back issues were flea markets and classified ads in the newspaper. I remember my mom getting up first thing in the morning on Sunday to drive me to the Norton Flea market in MA. It was quite a ways from my house. She never understood my collecting, lectured me all the time about wasting money on comic books, and yet never once interferred with my collecting. She just shook her head and drove me all over to look at comic books. She is still the same, she was aghast I bought an AF #15 for 'That much money .. Really ??" My father would throw stuff out in a heartbeat, my mother would stop him. The price was eye rolling and a lecture about wasting money, but she just let me do what I loved to do. Great memories!
  6. Start here - avoid anyone listed here. Then look here. If both parties are unfamiliar with each other you can use a trusted intermediary. Paypal offers both buyer and seller protections.
  7. Because other bidders are paying a 19.5% vig. NP gresham pays no such premium, then turns around and flips the book on eBay or some other site. There are plenty of shady dealings going on over there that lead to RICO charges and run-ins with postal inspectors. But it really baffles me why anyone would pay way over FMV to buy on that site.
  8. Back in the ‘wild wild west’ days of eBay I bought a raw book from a seller who claimed he lost his comic book store and was liquidating what was left. He demanded check or MO only for a raw book, ‘no returns’ with FB about 10 I took a $1000 gamble Ended up with this
  9. The Vietnam war killed 58,000 in 4 + years. COVID-19 passed that number in less than 3 months. There's your outrage. Try thinking beyond the numbers and remember these are PEOPLE. They had familees and loved ones. There is pain and misery far beyond any number you may want to put on it.
  10. Bought my copy raw for $9.99 and gladly sold it a few months later for many times that. Seemed just right to me
  11. Looking at all the down arrows on IM #55 and i wonder what 'hot' books will follow. There was a 9.4 sale of this book in 2018 for $3100. I never want to be THAT guy who pays GPA high and can never undo it
  12. I would like to see your data. Hard to reach any conclusions when a lot of books in GPA have no sales since January. I am mainly looking at Silver Age keys. For the few sales available it is hard to draw any conclusions, certainly there seems to be some downward pressure if anything. For instance FF #1 universal, almost all arrows are down for recent activity Hulk #1 universal mostly all down arrows AF #15 is a mixed bag JIM #83 is up mostly, but a couple of "last sales" have a huge hit
  13. That’s because you’re not doing it right Try riding by as fast you can on a galloping horse without your glasses
  14. My intent was to step back from collecting. But i keep finding these so my compulsion to collect them over-whelms me. However, they will all be sold eventually. Thinking in the next VCC I might throw the ones I have found out there.
  15. Another recent minor variant found in the wild
