  1. That's most likely what she meant!!! Nice find! When it comes to comics I'm 90% superhero related so I am weak on those others. Wow, are those books worth anything? I guessing not that much.
  2. I have said this before on the boards. But my grandmother worked in the drug store in the 1930's and she remembered all the early books that passed through. And yes, she was working there in 1938 when Action 1 came out. But of course she did not keep any of the big books. She read them while working - never bought any. She also said that the superhero books were not the popular ones at the time (late 30's) and that books featuring some animals or "joke books" were the big sellers. I do not remember what the titles were that she said sold the best. But nothing notable (probably why I can't remember them). Some "animal" book called like cats and jammer or something out.
  3. Let me tell you sir....That is one heck of a Pre-Robin. There very very hard to find books. And the grade on yours looks amazing. I have one myself but it is in worse condition than yours (CGC 1.0). So are you thinking about getting it CGC'd?
  4. I believe that is nearmint's site (thumbs u And nearmint needs to update it very soon. Lots of good pics in this thread that I haven't posted on my site yet. Then get busy! Done! Added about 30 pics from this thread to the site. Your website is awesome! (thumbs u
  5. That books looks massive in that little girl's hands! Little girl be careful with that Tec 18 its very valuable!!!
  6. It will be interesting to see what comes out of this. The auction could be real but it just looks incredibly fishy. The fact that it was either canceled or removed a time before makes me wonder
  7. What's the tip-off? ...other than low feedback. And then where did he get a scan of that book? Is this the same guy that when asked before if he would do a cash + trade deal on the 28 he replied something like "No, I already have ever book of the series" or something like that? That auction looks sketchy as all get out - scan looks fake or copied and why is there no back cover scan for a book this pricey? Warning flags all over that auction.
  8. The smell of fresh paper...while also watching cable on TV. Haha yes indeed! Just got dvr and my mind is blown. Never thought I would ever be able to pause live TV! So this was a fun evening reading it side by side. Also notice the white box above the archives book - fresh pair of cotton gloves for the reading. (thumbs u Time for me to get a pair of gloves too. Ahhhh....still can smell that fresh paper. (thumbs u Love reading vintage books. So much fun. (Would be even more fun if I paid sticker price of 10c though - but oh well it is worth it)

  10. Here's a fun photo I read my Tec 34 side by side with my DC archives. Obviously enough - the genuine article is much better than the archives.
  11. I assembled the first 500 issues back in the 70s - 90s, then had to sell them. I swore I would never put the run together again. I was wrong, I'm back at it. Slowly though. No rush. I've got 200 up about 75% complete. Once those are done, I'll work on the first 200. So, in about 10 years I should be complete
  12. and........ Never ending amount to go.........
  13. One of my favorite Joker covers! Great!
  14. For sure. (thumbs u Thanks guys! The BatMan "rules" Love all the Pre-Robins oh so much!
  15. Yeah please do a before/after post!
  16. Thanks! (thumbs u Funny you ask about the #32... I've actually sent it to Matt Nelson for some repairs. It's pretty low-grade, with some spine split at top, tears and a detached/married centerfold, but Matt estimates it will be an Apparent 5.5 with just some simple structural work. I'll post it up here when it (eventually) comes back. Sound good! Gotta love Tec 32 - classic splash classic and BATMAN SHOOTS AND KILLS WITH GUN!!!
  17. It stinks. That's frustrating. I bet the seller was bombarded with so many inquires and I won't be surprise it will end up be a in CGC holder and up for auction in the future. My other theory was that as well. That the seller might not have known what they had and when they saw the interest perhaps they realized that it is a valuable book. I would not be surprised either. And by then it will command a "ton" of $$$ to obtain most likely. MYSTERY SOLVED! I finally got a response from the seller: "Thank you very much for your interest in my Detective Comics, number 35, Batman issue. I was so inundated with so many questions concerning so many aspects of the condition of this comic which I just could not answer. One Ebayer was kind enough to advise me that I would be better of, since I know nothing about comics, to send it to CGC for appropriate grading instead od providing Ebayers with my own, perhaps incorrect, grading of this comic. Please contact me in a few days and I will let you know what the grading is and what I plan to do with this comic book. Thank you again." Also sent me a message with their e-mail and told me to e-mail in a few days. That's good DETECTIVE work Bat-Man. (thumbs u I'm interested to see if they do send it to cgc. And what the grade is. As with any book CGC makes a transaction safer for both the buyer and seller! (Also might drive the price up!) That will be true...no ifs or buts. Looks like it will be a universal grade. Yeah it does, might turn out to be a stunner. I am glad they are thinking cgc because when I inquired about specifics I was left with more questions than answers. Like she called the covers "wrappers" and things like that which really confused me. Hopefully the book will end up in a blue holder and find its way back on to an auction site so everyone can have a shot at it. As that joke referenced, wouldn't be surprised if HA and Clink contacted the seller to try and get a piece of the action. Or, after the grade is made known, if it is indeed a nice, blue label, maybe i'll email her and tell her that if she doesn't need the cash to just sit on the book as it will only get more valuable year after year. I agree...whatever she plans on doing with it, she's a winner. Especially if she is the daughter per say of the original owner........will be rolling in the dough
  18. Great books! Nice covers! What grade is that 32?
