And I thought it was just magic marker doodles -- so I "earned" some points (multiple) for how far off I was.

2.0 is (supposedly) the highest a book can get with a completely detached cover, according to Overstreet Guide. But CGC seems to be more generous than Overstreet, esp on key issues and in terms of not setting a ceiling on a grade based on one particular flaw. Maybe people have examples of CGC slabbed books with detached cover that were graded higher than 2.0? Ones in overall similar condition to this book?
Another thread tackles this line of reasoning and includes a quote from a CGC grader that 4.0 would be the max for a detached cover. -

It looks like there is a light water stain on both covers? To be on the safe side, I'd say 6.0.

...I'm seeing a possibility of some spottiness in the lighter blue close to the STERANKO. If that's nothing 9.0/9.2, if it is something 8.0/8.5

4.5. What I'm seeing besides that spine is the soiling on back cover, as well as a 1/4"+ tear, color rub front cover, and a crushed corner of the book.

I really want to say 9.4 -- it looks like a copy to be proud of! But I lean toward 9.2 because of what looks like maybe some creasing near FBRC

Hey again. Yeah, now that I know the cover is detached I'd say you could still possibly be at 1.8. Spine split and detached cover are two separate defects, and your detached cover doesn't seem to have long splits, from what I see. So... maybe 1.8. I could see it being a 1.5 or 1.0, too. Not sure how the trimmed pages will factor in. What is it that makes them look trimmed?

Thanks, everyone. You're the best.

In an out-of-character move for me, I'm leaning high: 7.5
I see so much to like about this copy. I looked up the sales on GoCollect and am comparing images of the 7.5s and don't think it's out of the question. But very curious to see what others think.
