Has GPA done an analysis? Maybe it did really well because it's a really nice copy of a key book? It seems silly to me, they're not doing anything a seasoned collector can't do just looking at the book in person. But I guess if you are paying $5000 for something on line where the scans only show so much, maybe it's worth the premium.

I won't speak for all CVA books, but the Tec 411 in particular sold for big $ because of the rarity of 9.6's and it was a Fantucchio book.

It's because of the cva. Never bid on a cva (in hopes of winning) unless you're prepared to pay through the nose. I learned that the hard way. Had it been a gold sticker the price would've reached whackadoo bonkers level!

I don't pay attention to CVA stickers.  They shot themselves in the foot when they first came out.  Many of the books that had the sticker were miswrapped.  I don't know if they've tightened up on giving stickers, but it isn't that hard to see if a book is registered well and presents nicely.  I really believe the sky high price is due to so few examples come to market.  Tec 411 is super tough at 9.2 or better.

Can’t believe this thread has slipped down so far.

    I miss my Bat keys.

Thinking about getting a #227 sometime in the future, what’s the pricing like these days on a 9.4?

Not many sales in the past few years.  The ones I've seen, I've passed on because of centering issues.  The price has been pretty stagnant for the past few years.  $1,350 to $1,500 should be the price range and if the centering is spot on and pq is excellent, you'll pay a premium to that range.  The Fantucchio 9.2 W went for $2,001.00, which I thought was nuts, but it sure was a nice looking copy.

Here's the thing, "corrections" much like "bubbles" are also temporary. If you bought "generic tech stock" during the tech bubble 15 years ago, you were probably "losing" a lot of money during the Great Recession. IF you sold. If you kept said generic tech stock through that down period, you are probably looking just fine now. Same with real estate during the downturn. Why wouldn't the same apply to comics, which are now viewed as investments by most of the people paying silly money for them?

Agreed.  Those that buy for the quick score will often break even or lose.  Those that hold long term will do just fine.

I'm not sure.  I just plugged in the cert # and credit card info, and was charged $5 for the information.  Maybe it is a straight $5 fee for any book, I do not really know.

Sorry, I'm not a CGC member, nor do I submit books.

The notes on the B&B 44 were emailed to me in about 24 hours.

The prices vary.  I paid $10 for a book I recently purchased.  Some notes cost $5, other's $10.  I've never paid more than $10 though.

From what I’ve seen PQ doesn’t seem to make much of a difference on the 9.6 Auctions... but I suspect that it will in the future, something has to differentiate these near identical copies in the same grade.

When it came time to get a 9.6 copy a few years ago, I ignored all the ow-w ones.  I don’t think I paid more for white page copy... but i waited on one and am happy I did.

Well see how it plays out in the future... but I’ll bet there’s a lot of other people who have the same attitude I do about it.  If demand/number of people willing to pay big for these increases significantly I think white page copies will get a premium.

Astute move.  Some will have you think it doesn't matter.  Savvy buyers will always hold out for the best presenting copies (including PQ).  When it comes time to sell, you'll be rewarded.

Graceful exit.  Smart move. I was just about ready to annihilate your simple minded generalisation with multiple links to recent sales of NM 87, 98 and ASM 300.  So thanks for saving me the trouble.  Chief.

Nice ninja edit.   I giggled a bit with your initial response.  Now I see your edit and all I can do is shake my head at you.  Anything to win an argument, which you never will in this particular case and absolutely horrid people skills.  Kudos to you, sir.

Don't worry, this is my last interaction with you.

Have not met, but I've seen you argue ad nauseum on many things.  BTW, you're completely wrong on this topic.  And no, I won't argue with you anymore, Chief.
