  1. The adventure books are fun but we generally seem to be in a super hero centric collecting community so many cool books go under appreciated or even unnoticed The Fly and Jaguar are superhero books. Cut him some slack, they aren't big dollar books so he doesn't know what they are Sold several in SD this year so not only am I familiar but I have owned several copies recently (thumbs u I love the way you are branching out That quip had the coke zero all over the keyboard!
  2. Loydall is a valid surname but that dosnt look quite right either
  3. Almost a great cover - should have left Bucky off. It's like he was added in at the last minute - kneeing Cap in the head while leaping for the hook that would have to be behind him judging from the perspective on Red Skull. Either that or The Red Skull is only two feet tall. Yes, it's the Red Skull's tiny brother, the Shrunken Skull. Makes perfect sense.
  4. If you need some one to read your comics if you can no longer see them, I can PM you my mailing address. I'll make sure they get read. Those early issues of Smash in particular are great book with a fantastic line-up of artists that we've not seen since. ..and if you need someone to dust them for you just send 'm along to alanna's comic dusting service and I'll do 'em for free. Heck I'll even store them for you at no charge! (thumbs u
  5. What an awesome group shot. Woah there Scotty - beam me aboard!
  6. I've got one of those! Then the next time you two meet...
  7. That's one I've never seen before. Neat cover Very late publishing date for a Gilmore I'd've thought.
  8. 8-10 k is range depending on presentation,pq, etc Thank you Gator visual presentation and quality of restoration plays a big role, so sometimes tought to "estimate" without specifics... (thumbs u for a 1.5, this has great presentation IMO. Colors are tough to get bright on a Cap 1, and this one has it. Not sure what the BC looks like but a nice 1.5 http://www.comiclink.com/itemdetail.asp?id=917322 no longer on comiclink, sold outside of comiclink? board transaction? great seller You're a great seller I've been doing "it" best I can since dallas, but no one gets it but me Keep trying, it is all in the delivery. You'll get there Bill, you really shouldnt encourage him!
  9. The things you know that I dont would fill a library.
  10. Your right! I have spent to much time working on the "S" box. It's time to work on other letters...and that Super collection may never be finished. BB - you could always work on the boxes labelled "O,C,D"! They'd always be my first choices! (In fact I'd have no choice!)
  11. having owned books from all the major predigress, I can tell you that Penns are not in the same league as MH, or Allentowns or SF/Reilly's... I equate Penns at only a slight premium to a non ped...they are fresh, but not "mile high" fresh perfect example, a few years ago, I bought a hangman 3, Penn copy..it was only about 10% more than a comparable looking copy non pedigreed...so I wouldn't pay a huge premium (naturally, which book and title could change my mind, but generically speaking) While I certainly wouldnt argue against either GAtor or West I'd say it might depend also on which book it is. If there is a Mile high of the same book it is probably going to be more attractive than the same issue in any other ped. But some of the Mile High Fights and Planets lack deep colors so dont quite "pop" as one might expect. On the other hand, I do still have the Penn copy of rangers #14 and it really does "pop" - but then the cover design itself is very high contrast. Plus of course it is a scarcer issue in grade as well. So I do think Fiction House can be a little more tricky - and it's more a case by case scenario. But I do think GAtor is as usual spot on in his analysis of respective pedigree values. San Fran and Church well ahead, Penns lagging, but still above a non-ped in comparable grade in most cases. ..and if you decide agin it- please may I know where it is so I can snag it?
  12. Incredible artwork. Thanks for taking the time to share it with us. I know absolutely nothing about Harry Anderson. I'll have to seek out some biographical info about him. Is there anything online that you'd recommend? Harry Anderson was a devout Seventh Day Adventist who turned to religious painting in later life...I know we discussed him about a year ago - maybe even in your thread BZ! there are plenty of his pictures on Google, and an entry in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Anderson_%28artist%29 It is the lack of mention of his work for comics that is most noticeable!
  13. Looks like handbags at dawn! You could sell tickets and make a fortune ("slapfight of the decade" and so forth)
  14. Again, I'll answer for my buddy Gator since he is busy. Artist and story information aren't his strong suit either Interesting. Who is the board guru(s) for artist and story information? Scrooge,AdamStrange, Bangzoom Taught them everything they I know I had 5 minutes to spare. If u know what u r doing 5 min is plenty of time Great recovery
  15. Is the ship named after Darwin's ship? Yes, in the sense that it is an interstellar voyage of scientific discovery.
  16. I'll jump in here if Lord GAtor doesn't mind (he's probably still in shock about Doohickamabob's being conflicted over his earlier response). Most Timelys have really cool covers and action packed stories. For starters, given your budgetary considerations I'd probably recommend one of the longer running titles like Captain America or Marvel Mystery because you'll have more to choose from at varying price points. Captain America has more costumed character stories while Marvel Mystery has a bit more variety, but you can't go wrong with either of them. (thumbs u OTOH, if you're starting out with the idea of trying to put together a run I'd recommend an affordable mid-grade copy from one of the shorter run titles to get started (Daring Comics, Mystic Series 2, USA Comics, All Select, etc.). PLOD stands for Purple Label of Death (the purple label affixed by CGC graders to restored book holders). The good news is that this concept has been mythbusted. The purchase of a restored book doesn't come with a death curse on the book or it's owner. Hey MerryWeather when you mentioned 'Lord Gator' or almost read it as 'Darth Vader' That's "Lord Merryweather" to you an' me! (thumbs u
  17. It's ok I guess... If you are into those sort of books. Hehe Hey buddy - damning people with faint praise is my schtick - get your own! (Although that was quite funny!)
  18. Jeff, I think we are all beginning to run out of superlatives! Any one of the past few dozen books you've posted would be the centrepiece of most collections. In your case, (as with a handful of other boardies who consistently post high grade books), all I can say is, "Average". Average for you is top census. But we will not cease to be amazed, however many you post! Simply amazing, man!
