  1. I bought a ton of Harlan's silver age comics about 10 years ago. At the time he wasn't ready to sell his GA stuff, for sentimental reasons. (He was really into Fawcett Comics as a kid). I've been to his house several times and there is MUCH more collectible goodness. Tons of original art on his walls, toys, sculpture, movie posters, etc. J. Michael Straczynski is the executor of Harlan's estate and the plan is to turn his house into a museum, of sorts. If you've never seen Ellison Wonderland, it's a thing to behold:
  2. I'm guessing someone hoarded a bunch of 9.8s, then shilled this one up to increase the values of their stash. This happens all the time in the fine art world. One collector (or a ring of collectors) buy a bunch of pieces from one artist, then they auction one piece and shill it up. They they start selling the others at the artificially inflated price.
  3. There is way for CGC to defend this painfully obvious side deal.
  4. Thank you. This is the first thing I thought of when this started to blow up. CGC has a sordid history of saying one thing and having another set of rules for certain dealers and collectors.
  5. If the seller accepted the offer and clink cashed the check, the seller has some explaining to do.
  6. Can't remember if I posted this one or not.
  7. I get busy with work and travel and my collection gets neglected for a year (or 2-3) and then I have time to get back to it and the values have skyrocketed and suddenly I'm excited again. But at the moment I'm downsizing.
  8. Happy Birthday, Harley! I've bought from him many times over the years. Great dealer.
  9. I had a book that came back with "small amount of color touch." I cracked it open, looked with a loupe and a black light and couldn't find it. Sent it back in and voila, blue label. Graders make mistakes. I'd give it another go.
  10. Great info. I think this is the calculus behind some eye-popping prices. Then those prices set new benchmarks that other buyers sometimes follow, generating more heat, but there's no real fire there.
  11. Disappointing. I love the CLZ app, but without it syncing with GoCollect, I won't use it as often.
  12. Maybe the light green scared away some buyers? Here's the normal, darker green. (Not my book). Then again the X-Men 1 9.8 Pacific Coast copy is light green, so maybe it doesn't matter so much.
  13. What's the over/under on when this thread goes off the rails and gets locked?
  14. Reminds me of Araki Yasusada, who was a celebrated Japanese poet (and Hiroshima survivor!) At least until it was revealed to be this guy, Kent Johnson. There's also Jamake Highwater. He claimed to be Cherokee and wrote 30 books and received hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants, that didn't go to actual Native Americans. Why these insufficiently_thoughtful_persons do this is a mystery. They feel that marginalized people have an advantage? They don't believe in their own work? Going with a popular trend? I dunno. But it's fraud.
  15. Last call! Closing the thread tonight. Feel free to PM with offers.
  16. I've always thought of it as a first tier key with second tier cover art. It's just not in the same category as JIM83, AF15, Hulk1, and FF1.
