  1. I will never understand the appeal of having someone sign a book that they had no part in creating? Didn't Roy Thomas began working on Spider-Man around 1971?
  2. Welcome to the boards. CGC's stated turnaround times are more theoretical than actual.
  3. I'll ask. I would think the HVAC would be off when the bank is closed, which would be a sauna in a place like Florida. Not so much here.
  4. It was a book, then a film, then a short lived comic, but I'd really like to see a remake of Logan's Run.
  5. That's the part that would drive me crazy. I know I'll have to make the switch. Just dragging my feet in frustration.
  6. Ordinarily I would agree but I live at 4,700' in Bozeman, so a very temperate climate with low humidity.
  7. Here's an update from the artist, Joe Bennett. https://www.comicsxf.com/2021/02/03/its-go-for-joe-fixit-in-immortal-hulk-43/
  8. You're an Aussie! I thought Fosters for breakfast was a thing? Love your service by the way. Your auction data is updated waaaaaaaaay faster than your competition. It's not even close.
  9. The lower grades of the same book were all Modern prices as were a few other books. I sent him a message. I'm sure he'll have it fixed shortly.
  10. Looks like two different data sets accidentally got combined, either that or someone got a screaming deal on an X-Men 2 (silver age) 9.8
  11. Still has great colors and terrific eye appeal. Guessing 2.5. If you do get it graded, please let us know how it turned out.
  12. Thanks. That's what I was gleaning from their disclaimer. I've heard that banks hate being in the safe deposit box business. They don't make money on them and they're a pain to deal with when someone stops paying (or dies) and they have to drill and evict a box. Speaking of, this is a nightmare scenario that definitely gives me pause--a box of valuables turned up empty.
  13. I went to get a safe deposit box at Wells Fargo and much my surprise, the lease agreement (see below) requires me to agree to NOT put anything inside worth more than $10k. I know that the comics need their own insurance, but I didn't realize there was a cap on the value of the items stored. For those who have safe deposit boxes, do you just give them a wink and store what you want, regardless of value?
  14. Honestly, I just don't want another checking account. I have a business and also an airbnb, so between personal, business, my wife, and the airbnb, we already have 9 accounts. It's been so nice to buy and sell comics from PayPal, which has also been less confusing for my accountant.
  15. Finally got the cutoff notice. I loved the way PayPal kept my comics separate from my other bank accounts. The inconvenience me of setting up yet another bank account just so eBay can keep the money they were losing to PayPal is not exactly motivating. Also, I only use Priority Mail and ship promptly, so not a fan of getting paid days after the buyer receives a book.
  16. I agree. Though I just got an email from Metropolis and their featured item is a TOS39 9.2 from the other guys, so maybe that's changing? If so, moving at the speed of a glacier. I definitely prefer the CGC label. But I don't see CGC improving their turnaround times or quality control without being challenged by someone else.
  17. Then they're currently terrible at it. But that would explain why I've had regraded books go from untrimmed to trimmed and trimmed on the top to trimmed on the bottom.
  18. I'm not 100% sure of anything these days. But with one book I know of it was definitely not trimmed. I once owned the book, so when someone else had it regraded and I recognized the book and saw that trimming had been added to the label I was surprised. Out of curiosity I took a scan of the regraded book and my old scan and put them on top of each other in Photoshop and they're the exact same size, which is the size of an untrimmed book.
  19. I don't either. And I worked in and around the world of four-color printing for 17 years. If CGC considers a book to be trimmed because it's smaller than an original book, expertly removing excess paper to bring a book back to those original dimensions isn't the same thing. I bring this up because this is something that I've seen graded inconsistently with purple books as of late. In the past, books with leaf casted corners or edge pieces get the notation of "pieces added," which makes sense. But recently I've seen this also tagged with trimming, when the book is the exact same dimension as an untrimmed book. Yes, the excess is trimmed, but that's part of leaf casting an edge. It's a grey area that I think needs clarification. I also heard (second-hand) that this came up between an auction house and CGC over some books that the auction house had graded on behalf of a seller.
  20. I hear ya. Not being facetious and I know graders are incredibly thorough, I guess I'm always a little baffled how a book is considered trimmed when it's trimmed back to the original dimensions it should have been when it left the printer. I mean, technically, every single book is trimmed...by the printer. If this book were trimmed to match the original dimensions of an untrimmed book (as long as the person doing the trimming knew what they were doing) wouldn't it be the same?
  21. If you cut to corner to the dimensions of the original trimming, how would the graders be able to tell?
  22. Would it be considered restoration to trim it to the original printing specs? I mean, if CGC considered that trimming then every book is technically trimmed...at the printer. I definitely understand the hesitation. I had a restored book graded that had a tiny corner piece (about that size) repaired via leaf casting. It came back as trimmed. The book is the exact dimensions of an untrimmed copy, but because it was a piece added then trimmed to match the trimming at the printer it was noted as "TRIMMED" on the label Definitely a philosophical/technical discussion worth having.
