Do you care about some random stranger more than you do about yourself? If you could do something that is detrimental to you but beneficial for said random stranger, would you?
I don't know what kind of fairy tale world you all live in but posts like this continue to amaze me. Unrealistic is putting it mildly.
Totally. So unrealistic CGC's sister company NCG named Richard Albright as the fraudster in a similar scam regarding coins. But you're right, totally unrealistic.

At this point if CGC cares about the collecting community, they need to release the name.
Instead of just looking up certs, it would be helpful for those who might have purchased directly from this person.
Also, it would reassure the community that this was only one person and not several. And not a CGC employee.
Yes, I know, lawyers might be advising against this. But those attorneys care about CGC first and the rest of us second, if at all.
If boardies know, they should step up.

It was one of the last big books I had never touched raw. Past jobs gave me the experience to check most of them off my list but these were always, always slabbed.
Incredible just to hold that piece of comic history! Do you have photos of it after the tape removal?

When you’re in your 50s, hopefully you have a little more empathy, wisdom and emotional intelligence.
I had a lot of sympathy for the guy at first. Partly because I've talked to him and he's clearly a comics super-fan. But mainly because so few people do restoration at his level. I'd hoped he'd somehow manage to get his life back on track and return books and finish the work. The community needs people who do this, especially conservation. We're losing so much know-how with Susan C. retiring and now Mike imploding so spectacularly. But, it's hard to have much sympathy for the guy at this point.

It took some time, but I finally spotted what is in my mind, an absolute connection between a major submitter and the two names that I believe are involved with the various ebay seller IDs.
Is this major submitter a dealer?

In the past I think CGC might have given a book like that an 8.0, but they seem super tight right now. So maybe more like 6.5 - 7.0.

But if someone swapped out a similar grade cover with something wrong in the interior even our most trusted dealers won't know.
This guy might be a dealer. I hope not.
And I agree with the earlier posts about Bob Storms. I've bought countless books from him. One of the best.

Are brevis3, aureliaag, and zaneglors all eBay names? Or are these names he's used elsewhere?

Since Threads will automatically follow whoever you're following on Instagram, I'm guessing he logged into IG after a long absence and it did the auto-follow thing. Definitely not in jail if he has his phone handy.

At a tournament, someone messaged me that CGC posted a response to this on iG. Haven't seen any posts in this thread or the forums, jumped straight on here, is this true? If so, can someone tag me on that post please.
CGC did post to their IG account. https://www.instagram.com/p/C1ZkREgOu8V/?img_index=1

I’m curious how many potential CGC consumers are even aware of this situation?
I've seen CGC's announcement posted on two FB collecting groups. One with 1,500 members, the other has 12,000. So word is getting out.
Not sure about the big CGC fan group on FB, since Bill "I don't ban anyone" banned me. I'm assuming he's posted it now since he's a de facto CGC mouthpiece.

I'm on Threads, which is Meta's version of Twitter. Last night I got a "Hero Restoration is now following you" notification.
He's made no posts on Threads, but he's alive and active out there.

Starting at 1:30:18 and 1:33:18 in this video, 9.9newsstand provides some very interesting insight on the scammer.
So if we believe the video, the guy doing this is a dealer.
Probably worth exploring if certain dealers get special treatment at CGC. I always assumed big dealers can get books pushed to the front of the grading line. But are they given a pass on regrading?

When did CGC decide to start imaging ALL books they grade?
I believe they announced it in July of this year.

Public Service Announcement: If someone is always arguing about the argument and has a habit of trying to be the center of every discussion, to the detriment of the actual discourse, just put them on IGNORE.
I did a long time ago. This is a serious discussion. I can't imagine trying to get through 171+ pages with all of that noise.

BTW...
Do a search for PSA and then do a search for CGC and it seems that the sports cards market is thriving.
Yes, I know that many listings are not graded but say, "CGC IT!!!" or "PSA READY!!!" but still...
There are a LOT of graded collectibles out there. Remember that eBay will find it easier to kick off users (and even that is a big if) rather than implement new rules and regulations over selling graded collectibles.
I heard this second hand (from a good source), but apparently Halperin said that this year is the first year Heritage made more money selling cards than comics.

So this 9.8 Mark Jewellers Secret Wars 8 is at $3,349 and ends in less than two hours. I believe it was a member of the boards who posted this book, as was mentioned earlier in the thread. It looks like a legit 9.8, coming from a trustworthy source.
Meanwhile our friend Briva's book "sold" for over 21k a few weeks ago. I doubt this was an actual sale, as he ended it early and was obviously shill bidded to the moon... Yet still I feel real bad for the trustworthy seller who is going to take a massive hit because of scumbag Briva.
It's so unhelpful that GPA still records these "sales."

Gotcha. You don't ban anyone, you just block them. TOTALLY different.
I didn't repost. But there were other posters at the time. I'm guessing you lost patience and blocked everyone. Your call.
Again, thanks for pinning a post about this. It's the right call for the collecting community at large.

ASM #252 CGC 9.8 Record Sale - something fishy going on? - Holder Tampering Incident confirmed by CGC
in Comics General

This isn't the only legal entanglement CGC/NCG/Heritage/WATA/Halperin etc have been involved with. In those scandals, people were named long before a court decision.
