  1. Awesome, I still don't have that black Secret Wars Spidey. Some day. I have the black, I’m missing the red and blue.
  2. It’s $20 for up to 4 or 5 books in the US (can’t remember the cutoff they use, and I think it just goes to $25 with that next book). It can take a while, especially if you pay by check, but if you finish bidding early and check out before the auction closes it should get you ahead in the queue.
  3. But what problem is CGC solving by making this restriction? Delivery to a FedEx location is an option that is more convenient for their customers and at least as secure (if not moreso) than home delivery. So what is this accomplishing?
  4. Yet another reason I’m going to prefer buying books already graded rather than going through the time, hassle, and expense of grading them myself. Thanks for making it easier not to give you my money (or pay for a pricey account tier) CGC!
  5. The “grandpa guide”, as we call it, is useful because it lays flat when ring bound. That’s useful if you’re doing a lot of research.
  6. I was talking about this with my brother. Just shave off the spine and take it to Kinkos. They can ring bind it there for a few bucks.
  7. based on what I can see in the pics. This copy has better color and is slightly less chippy.
  8. Great pickup on his backwards name, that had slipped past me!
  9. Picked this up this past weekend at North Texas.
  10. Just got this one back. My first SS in a while.
  11. You could go old school and have them sign it at the bottom of the first page. You get your book signed, and the cover remains clean. As long as the signatures are witnessed it still gets a yellow label. I’d also agree that cover signatures on a high grade vintage book are undesirable.
  12. Thanks. I’m hoping I’ll have enough miles to see about flying out, maybe even just for the day.
  13. I was just checking to see if a date for next year had been posted yet. Thanks! Any idea if there will be a change in venue?
  14. I’m in the airport with a bit of a wait for my flight, so I’ll try to put together something of a report. As always, it was a fun weekend. I’ve long thought that these are the best pure comic shows in the area. Good concentration of dealers, some great toy vendors as well, and the guest list is always focused on comic talent. This weekend was a bit of a step down from the February show in terms of sales and attendance. The general theme from the dealers I talked to was that their sales were running about half of the February show. Attendance was also down some, and the crowd was light today. Not sure what to attribute this to, but I’m sure the 108 degree heat didn’t help. I spent more than I intended to, and came home with some great books and toys. It was nice to meet @iggykoopa and see everyone that stopped by to shop or BS for a bit. I’m hoping we can fit the February 2019 show into our schedule. My haul:
  15. I’m getting the itch to start buying toys again, so I picked these up at the North Texas show this weekend. The gum ball dispenser is full of vintage gum balls.
  16. I know those are tough and all, but personally I can’t see paying more than about 10% of that. YMMV.
  17. Nice little shopping day at the North Texas Con. Had to pay a little bit, but all of these have been tough for me.
  18. Hope the flights went smoothly! Lots of good stuff in the room, we’re set up across from the concession stand. Hope to see you!
  19. These seem to be more celeb shows than true comic cons, but I’m willing to be proven wrong.
  20. It's a shame that the first post got locked, because I had always hoped that those lists could be added back to the "master" version. It is useful info, because I do think that most of us DCU hunters want to pick them up.
  21. It's a reasonable question, and I would consider all of those to be Whitmans. Now, if there were consistent variation in the Whitman symbols/placement/colors that would track with different eras of distribution, that may be a closer analogy. Of course, YMMV, which is what makes collecting fun (or terribly frustrating, depending on your motivations to collect). There are cosmetic differences within the DCUs as well, at the very least there is bordered and not bordered. There may be other variants that have slipped my notice.
  22. Funny that you can disagree with me, but I can't seem to disagree with you on these points. I think we are arguing the same thing, and maybe my issues are coming down to mere personal preference. For whatever reason the "true" DCU variants are sexier. Maybe it is the rarity (for some) and the thrill of the chase as it is a larger series that is very difficult to put together relative to their essentially identical Zero Hour and Bullet compatriots. I would not dispute the points you raise above, but the symbols do matter to *most* of us that are collecting these things (at least according to my decidedly non-scientific analysis of the posts in this thread, that I have participated in since basically day #1).
  23. Ya know, I have been so ear obsessed that I never noticed the trade-off with her hair. It's amazing what I learn on these boards.
  24. I also hadn’t considered that bit of anatomical problem until I read a post on that on the boards. It does bug me, but not enough to knock the cover out of my top pre-hero books.
