  1. i find the hardest to find at shows are the crossfires. i think it was probably the least popular title he did the covers for?

That and the fact they have Elvis and Marilyn on them (depending on which one you were talking about specifically) so a lot of people are probably sitting on those as collectibles in for them more than comics.

You just have to keep your eyes open and do your homework.....

4 Dave Stevens books for $4.99

Somebody picked it up for cheap!

  3. Yep, I just put in a mark amount and was going to go back and keep up with the bid at the end but got distracted by family. Maybe one day...

Sorry my friend, that would be me.

If I end up coming across another one, and if you're still interested I will let you have the one I bought for the same price I paid.

    Lets see a scan please.

    As requested :

So close to perfect, except for that darn pencil or pen mark on the top left.

  4. Yes, I recognize the fact this will come back as a green label but I am willing to deal with that because this will not likely ever leave my collection. I basically want to protect it and since there are no Dave Stevens yellow labels I believe a green label is the only option if I want a CGC'd copy.

  5. Ok, I have a question for the boardies. I have a Sheena 3-D with the 3-D glasses that were sold with them that I have had since I picked up the comic waaaaayyy back when and it is signed by Dave. I want to send this particular book in for slabbing because it is probably the best signature of Dave's I have...(see below). So what do I do about the glasses? CGC won't slab them with the book, right? Or should I keep this beauty raw and slab the Alien Worlds instead?

That's very generous and much appreciated! (thumbs u I'll keep my fingers crossed :)

  7. Depends on how lucky you are really...I've gone to cons before looking for back issues that I thought no one else would be looking for and sure enough somebody right in front of me has grabbed what I was looking for right out of the cheap boxes...I just take it as a sign I was meant to spend my money on something else :)

  8. Good luck, Moetown!

I posted this over in the OA section, but I figured it'd be appreciated here too.

My fiancée and I will be out of town for Christmas, so we decided to exchange gifts early. She really outdid herself this time by not only commissioning this at a show months ago and keeping in contact with the artist via email, but she also convinced him to do a group shot. Michael Dooney rarely does group shots because they feel "too much like real work". To say I was surprised to see this would be an understatement.

Michael told me he'd likely be making a print of this for a show in 2011. I'm hoping it's a show I'm attending. :wishluck:

Michael Dooney is an awesome individual as well as an artist. Had the pleasure of meeting him last year at Heroes and getting a Fairchild sketch from him. Did you happen to see that pizza box he did a group shot on and sold on Ebay? It was amazing!

  9. A seldom seen Dave book... Back Issues 1983... This isn't a comic, it's a catalogue for, well, back issues of Men's Magazines (Playboy, Oui, etc.)... But what a great "Marilyn"-esque cover!

    BackIssues1983.jpg

I've been seeing that book here and there on different sites. Not you typical Stevens cover. Sorta like a chalk drawing.

If you have seen one of these recently let me know in PM. I'd like to track one down if possible!

  10. I think several of these will make their way to CGC in 2011 but I wondered what everyone thought about sending one of the autographed books in for a green label? Worth it or just keep it like it is?

If it means enough to you, and you have a desired to see it slabbed, I'd submit it.

Who cares about the Green Label stigma if you know personally these were really signed by DS? And I bet if those books came up for sale on the market, others would care less too.

I probably will send a couple for grading, I just haven't decided how many yet. I've been going to conventions for probably nearly 20 years and I have a long box full of autographs (I should have been getting sketches in the early days instead doh!) I have the same issue with so many of the other books I have because I really want to preserve them for the long haul.

It might be a few months but I'll post pics of hopefully quite a few Dave Stevens CGC slabs in 2011.

  11. I had a little time to go through my stuff and I have 30 different Dave Stevens books and one sketchbook off the checklist on his website. If you look at that list that is nothing! Looks like 4 autographed books as well, my favorite of which is a Jungle Comics #1 with personalization to me and his name large and in charge. I think several of these will make their way to CGC in 2011 but I wondered what everyone thought about sending one of the autographed books in for a green label? Worth it or just keep it like it is?
