I am an old guy and before eBay and the internet, surprises is all there was, LCS's, local shows, those key, highly sought after books (not necessarily due to $ value) or those I need a copy to fill a hole books were always a surprise when you made your trip to the LCS. Between 1989 and 2002 I used to travel to the 5-6 LCS's in my area once a month to see what "new treasures" may have arrived. The internet played a big role in folks no longer participating in the "Thrill Of The Hunt" although some still do and some find still find those surprises.

We are in the Age of the "Couch Potato Collector". It's going to be available within 15 minutes via the internet or a few phone calls.  We constantly get calls at the shop "to go look for....". Most of the time it's the hot book of the week/ key collector back issue of the week/ Omnibus/hardcover that just sold for big $$ on ebay. I would love to go back to the days of Comic Shops and Conventions and having to dig.  That's what made the hobby fun.

Shipped this morning 6/27.  43 Business days.

That is just plain bad.  Especially seeing that people are getting straight econs back in less than 10 business days. I don't understand how the concept of first in/first out can be that broken with Economy level. I understand that they are working on a volume of books that people probably can't fully imagine, but they've been doing this for 20 years.  They have had 20 years to get a process going and it still seems they have to "reinvent the wheel" every few years.

  4. So I called customer service and they seem to still stand behind the excuse that everything is being held up in encapsulation. When I asked why non fast track moderns are averaging under 10 days on a 20 day tat, and FT econs are exceeding tat and they use the same size slab, she couldn't comment.  All I can figure is that they don't have a way to allocate the resources to even out the modern/economy/standard & walkthru use of the encapsulation process (people and machinery).  It's disappointing, but I was still able to get fast track fees refunded.

  5. Having books dropped off does help get them into the system quicker. But once in the system, they should then go into the First In/First Out process. CGC doesn't always have the best luck in keeping with that system. Some subs lag way behind, while some move through the system very quickly. When we see newer subs getting through grading and shipping a month or three weeks before other older subs, it's hard to understand the process that CGC seems to have...

  6. You can't be upset with @greggy, he's been submitting like this for years.  I'd want to have his luck with getting books back in a timely manner if I was subbing 300-500 books a week.  But it begs the question, that if CGC isn't supposed to know whose books they are grading, how are all the books getting back before a ton of our other books? I understand it's part of the process, but it makes it difficult to feel its impartial.

No fast track. I was surprised too but :takeit:

Congrats!  I wish they would follow the first in/first out that they tout so hard.  It's just luck of the draw for what they grab first that day I guess. Makes it hard to try and sub books to sell at shows.  Lately everything is coming back well past TAT. I hope all levels start to speed up and we get normal times again.
