Yep, once had a piece of art get wet in transit, so art inside a sealed plastic bag is a must.

I once had an artist ship me two pieces of art sandwiched between two pieces of Masonite placed inside an oversized jiffy bag.  The Masonite sheets got broken in transit.

. . . . which is why I subscribe to your last point that I've highlighted.

My only concern with shipping art sealed in plastic is depending on the weather and where it is stored until being shipped, is condensation developing between the sheets of plastic and still damaging the art.

  2. What is the signing schedule for John Byrne this weekend (nothing announced) and will he be signing in the comic signing area or only at a booth? As well, will we get VIP front of the line for him? Most comic artists only seem to be signing at their booths, VIP is not applicable for too many in the comic area this year.

VIP has never given front of the line for panel presentations. Just main theatre presentations however I can ask how that's being addressed in light of the fact that the flooding of the John Bassett Theatre in the North Building has necessitated moving a lot of the presentations that would have been there moving into other rooms. Which is why you noticed more Q&As are in the 200 level room.

Comic artist signings in the signing area are all on the schedule. Lots happening there on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. VIP Lane in effect. Liu/Takeda, Snyder, Snyder/Capullo, Kubert, Ramos Specially ticketed event will all have access to VIP lanes.

Currently no, we are not set up to give VIP priority access at the artist tables. We are discussing adding a VIP concierge table to the south like they do in the celebrity area. Please feel free to come by the signing area and talk to me or one of my staff if you need assistance with any long table lines.

Thanks for the response. To clarify, because a lot of the Q&A's have moved to the 200 level, will our VIP pass work there as well? Otherwise it will seem more limited this year.  As well, is there anything you can do to help the VIPs get easier access to the comic panels?

  4. Does VIP this year give you front of the line for any other rooms in North or South Building other than 100's, I.e. 200, 700, ...? I noticed more celebrity Q&A's are in the 200 level rooms.  As well, will any comic artists being doing any signings in the comic signing area or just at their booths and does VIP give us any privileges at the comic booths?  Thanks.

Actually, I’m not sure why I phrased it that way. It’s likely that he’s signing any IDW Star Trek books and trades. I believe he also has a special release at that show. I forget if it’s a artifact edition or something similar.   The main take away is that he will only be signing Star Trek books. No Marvel.

    Google it.

Pretty sure he has stuff on his own blog site  about it too.

He may sign the IDW artists or artifact edition books. They are IDW and technically not Marvel.

Why include an image at all? I mean, you can just ask me a question. Or you can send me a private message.

I don't have any details yet on Byrne to share. We're talking to him, setting the details of the packages and what he will and won't sign and for what.

    Thanks for the prompt update.

    Kevin,

I know you will be eventually announcing packages regarding Byrne. At present are you able to say if he will only be signing IDW Star Trek books he worked on? Or will he sign any IDW book i.e. Artist Edition, Marvel or DC printed comics and will he touch reprints or compilations of his work i.e. Omnibus? As well, do you know how many sigs and costs? Will VIPs have front of the line access with him? Any info or timeframe regarding info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

It's not about the money for him, it's about how he feels about comic books being placed in plastic cases. I would be incredibly shocked if he ever decided to do it again.

At least he is now willing to attend some conventions.  If only we could get Ditko to do the same thing.
