  1. I'll ask him more about it. I have a feeling since the comics have been going so well with him that I may as well look into the Playboy mags. They're not my thing, but the Playboy #1 is Iconic.
  2. He keeps telling me his dad told him that there are 2 copies of Superman #1 in the collection. So far no Superman #1 and really not much GA. I would be pretty stoked if there's a Superman 1 in one of these last boxes. I have a feeling if his dad had 2 copies of S1 that he would have put them somewhere else (his dad was a hoarder so they could be hidden anywhere). So this guy has a collection of Playboys starting with number 1. Should I make a play for that too? I know the 1st few are probably worth a lot, but the rest? I guess I should at least look at what condition they are in, and double check the Centerfolds
  3. Wow. That's one sweet collection. Valuing comics is one thing but valuing all of that would be tough. I hope you got a great deal.
  4. I took what Flying Donut & Moondog said as the best advice and was prepared to use their methods. However, the first time i went out and met with him, I got a vibe (my spider sense) was telling me he would take just about any offer I gave him. Because of that vibe I decided to take a risk and give him a much lower offer just to see what his counter offer was going to be. To my surprise (and delight) there was no counter offer, he was super happy with my offer and gladly took it. I noticed that he had no interest whatsoever in going thru any of the comics with me, or looking at the inventory notes I was taking, or anything! I've always told him about the Keys I've been finding, but he's kind of disinterested. He's more interested in chatting with me about baseball which I actually really enjoy. I'm going to admit that I'm getting a great deal. He's exactly the type of seller you want to find. Having said all of this...... I think I've given him about $14,000 so far. And I'm going to be spending $1000s more on his final 5 or 6 boxes. To answer my own original post..... I think you go in "with a plan" like Flying Donut's or Moondogs, but every deal and every seller is going to be different. Sometimes you gotta listen to your intuition. This guy is happy with any offer I give him (except an offer for the whole collection.... for some reason he didn't want to do that). Every time I leave his house he's got a big smile on his face, gives me a big handshake and tells me whenever I'm ready with some more cash to just give him a call and come over. To answer ThothAmon's question above.... I valued it low, expecting a counter offer. The counter offer never came, so I am very fortunate. If the counter offer would have come I was prepared to pay much more.
  5. SO my wife has been in Spain for the last month while I've bought this collection (I'll be joining her soon). I've been telling her I've been buying some comics, but didn't tell her there are 19 long boxes in the house . She's a neat freak so she's not going to be happy about that.
  6. Whoa...... that actually sounds really cool. How many boxes do you have left?
  7. OMG, I hope there was plenty of SA & GA and not just 1990s drek. The cool thing about this collection I've been buying is that 70% of it is SA Marvel & DC, with another 25% being Bronze Marvel & DC. There's a tiny sprinkling of GA & Copper. And even better....... the majority of the comics are in really nice shape. I'm pretty happy.
  8. Verily, this mystery doth confound me! I like your theory about Skrull Thor.
  9. 2 boxes were all random comics, no runs of anything, which REALLY makes it hard to go through!!! However in the randomness I pulled out a Hulk 180 (about 7.0) and an Adventure comics 210 (first Krypto 1.0 because of a split cover spine).
  10. I've brought home 19 boxes now from this collection..... I left 2 at his house on this trip (because I didn't bring enough cash). He said he probably has 5 or 6 more boxes in storage.
  11. These are not as nice as the others but still.... dang, it was a nice score ( for one heck of a price)
  12. Some of these are really nice. I got lucky today. Average grade is probably 6.5-7.0, but with a press..... 22 23 25 26 27 28 29 41 are probably going to be 8.0-8.5
  13. FF 7 & 9 are lower grade 4.0-4.5 But with a press FF 6, 11, 13 are 6.0 - 7.0 and FF 15 is probably an 8.0
  14. So I just got back from my 4th trip out to buy this OO collection. Each long box I open is a mystery. Some boxes have had with big water stains, but every once in a while a GREAT box shows up. Today he presented me with 3 long boxes & 1 short box to go through. The first box I opened (the short box) was 100% Fantastic Fours starting with #6 and going up to about 200 I think. Some of them are GORGEOUS! Take a look: The 48 presents like a 7.0 but I found a 2" tear on the back cover. The 49 is superb. I think with a press it's an 8.5 with a chance at a 9.0. The 50 is here too but only a 4.0 or so.
  15. Hi John, how about if you take my 7th wrap and use it for your CF! No one will notice. Seriously... good luck with your CF quest. It took me 7 years to find my Cap 1 CF and I really spent a lot to get it. There are many people looking for one and not enough of them out there.
  16. QUICK, let's get over to ebay and buy up all the high grade copies of 272 "The return of the "T"! Thanks for finding that Steelrain. Do many issues after that have the T?
  17. Ebay has a promotion where if you start your auction at $.99c they will only charge you 50% of your final value fee. I listed about 20 comics at that price, here are some of the good ones..... I decided to try it with: Fantastic Four Annual 6 https://www.ebay.com/itm/401801530157 Marvel Super-Heroes 12 & 13 https://www.ebay.com/itm/163757707691 https://www.ebay.com/itm/401799686883 Nova 1 https://www.ebay.com/itm/401801557953 Sgt Fury 1 https://www.ebay.com/itm/401801493073
  18. I recently bought a collection that included about 100 issues of Sgt Fury & His Howling Commandos. I was able to list about 70 of them today. At least half of them are around 9.0. Another bunch are around 7.0. I listed a nice coverless #1 too. Please take a look. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sadis=15&_stpos=30519-8140&_saslop=1&_fss=1&_sasl=gadzukes&_from=R40&_nkw=fury+and&_sacat=0&_sop=1
  19. Cap 1 - raw 7th wrap - Nice PQ, nice spine. Top edge & free edge look like bug/rodent chewed. I think this wrap has the 1st image of Betty Ross (Golden Girl) $599 $549 $525

I've got 56-110 (not all, but many) up for auction and some are in nice shape. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_ftrt=901&_fsradio=%26LH_SpecificSeller%3D1&_sop=12&_sadis=15&_byseller=1&_stpos=30519-8140&_odkw=&_saslop=1&_fss=1&_dmd=1&_sofindtype=0&_sasl=gadzukes&_osacat=0&_ipg=200&_ftrv=1&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xmystery.TRS0&_nkw=mystery&_sacat=0
