  1. Yeah, I agree that looks like color touch bleed thru.
  2. I wonder why this wasn't give a higher "apparent" grade? It's technically not missing anything. Being torn in half is a terrible thing, but it seems like it should warrant at least a 1.0. I wish this comic could talk and let us know what happened to it.
  3. Threads like this are SO frustrating. Maybe it turned out to be a coloring book or something and now they're embarrassed to post.
  4. That would have been pretty cool (and more lucrative) It still was cool the way it transpired. It's always awesome to find mega keys in the wild. I've found a few including an AF15
  5. I priced them as I went thru them. There were 4 final boxes for me to go thru. I went thru the first 2 boxes of drek, and paid him drek prices. I went thru the 3rd box pretty fast because I was seeing more drek, but then the last 3" were all batman with many cool ones (shown in the pics). So I paid him more for that box obviously. The last box had the mega key TOS39, and the other nice TOS, so I paid the most for that box. I told him what I found and actually showed him the mega key (I told him it was the 1st Ironman ever). Then I made him an offer for that one alone and he took it. He has been super cool with me. I take notes as I go thru the boxes & have always disclosed what I have been finding before I've made him any offers, and he has ALWAYS taken my 1st offer with no negotiation whatsoever. I've always been prepared to negotiate and make counteroffers upwards, but I've never had to do it. He has ALWAYS been super happy with me and tells me to keep coming back for more. It's simply a perfect situation as a buyer. In the last 8 weeks or so I bought 26 long boxes of comics from him (that's it, unless he finds a hidden box somewhere). Lots of nice comics were sprinkled throughout with many higher grades (see photos in this thread). No boxes were ever labeled as to the contents, I never knew what I was about to find when I went to his house, and he only ever had about 6 boxes or so at his house at a time. I think it's a little ironic that the mega key was in the very last box towards the very end of the longbox. Now..... I need to be a selling machine on ebay (and here) because my wife is not happy about all the long boxes in our extra room (she's a neat freak). I also have to pull everything to press & send to CGC for grading. There's a lot of work ahead, but hey.... it doesn't feel like work. I'm having a blast. What a great hobby.
  6. Luck.... pure luck. I bought a comic from him off of ebay 10 years ago and when he went to ship it to me he discovered I lived a couple miles away from him. At that time he told me he had inherited his dads collection and was going to start selling it on ebay, but after listing about 10 comics he was already sick of the ebay listing process. Since I lived near him he asked me if I wanted to come over and look thru the comics and start buying from him directly. "Um....YEAH!!!" So I started buying.... He'd bring a box over to my house.... I never knew what was going to be in it and I'd start buying. There usually was at least 1 major key issue in every box. It was a fun (but slow) process because he would never want to sell me the whole collection. I ended up with lots of good stuff.... Hulk 1, X-Men 1, Avengers 1, ST110.... many DC key issues. I probably spent about $10,000 at that time and got some great stuff (some of which I still have). BUT one day he told me he was going thru a divorce and all of a sudden I never heard from him again..... until 6 weeks ago. Here's the Hulk 1 I got from him 10 years ago.
  7. FlyingDonut was nice enough to give me a heads up on the Playboys that are worth something. Jan/55 has the Betty Page CF
  8. I want to thank everyone who gave me advice at the start of this thread. Your collective wisdom was much appreciated.
  9. So..... he told me he has his dad's Playboy collection too, including 2 copies of number 1. He said they're all stacked in apple crates. I really have no interest in Playboys but it seems like something I should pick up. I told him to bring them out of storage and I'll pick them up. I'm hoping he finds some more long boxes of comics hidden somewhere.
  10. No. Nothing was labeled. Comics were in groupings, but there was no rhyme or reason to anything. Nothing was bagged and boarded either (in these last boxes), so I thought it was all going to be carp. I'm pretty happy that the conditions of the comics stayed pretty nice for not being bagged and boarded. Although, I see that some have a hint of rust on the staples.
  11. And then the final long box. I got about 3" from finishing the box and then...... Boom... a nice TOS set of about 30 comics including TOS 39 Everything in pretty nice shape. The comic Gods have been smiling on me these last two months. (TOS39 looks to be about 4.0-4.5. All the rest look like they average around 6.0-6.5)
  12. I picked up the final 4 long boxes of comics from this collection today. MAN.... I wish there were more boxes. This has been such a great pick up for me. I'm very fortunate. I'm fortunate that the guy let me buy it little by little. So.... the first 2 long boxes had nothing..... runs of Charlton and things like Twilight Zone and Boris Karloff. Still, kind of fun stuff to go thru. 3rd long box was looking the same, and then towards the back of the longbox....... Boom, a treasure trove of Batman. The 181 even has the CF. And then a nice run of HOS including a nice 92
  13. I think this is an issue that CGC should address. I was going to get about 10 of the labels thru different tier levels and once I saw all of the different shipping costs it really turned me off.
  14. I was going to get some of these new labels with my last submission, but when I saw I was going to be charged a separate shipping fee, I nixed it. $5 per label is fairly reasonable, but when you add the separate shipping fees.... it gets way too pricey. If CGC can fix it so they can ship with other submissions then I will buy some of these.
  15. Pamela, you've had time to make 8 postings on this thread over a 2 week period, but you haven't been able to snap 1 photo yet? Come on. We're dying here. Post the photo
  16. I've got some high grade Sgt Fury ending tonight on ebay. Check em out. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sofindtype=0&_from=R40&_byseller=1&_nkw=fury&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=&_sacat=0&_udlo=&_udhi=&_ftrt=901&_ftrv=1&_sabdlo=&_sabdhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=15&_stpos=30519-8140&_sargn=-1%26saslc%3D1&_salic=1&_fss=1&_fsradio=%26LH_SpecificSeller%3D1&_saslop=1&_sasl=gadzukes&_sop=12&_dmd=1&_ipg=200&_fosrp=1
  17. Action Comics 44 - raw unrestored - 2.0ish with a married detached cover. There's a tiny piece at the bottom of the spine that is barely holding on by a whisker. 1st interior wrap is also detached and has a 3" split at bottom spine. 1st wrap has tanned but is not brittle, all other wraps are in fairly good shape. Cf is attached. $375 $350
  18. Flash 123 CGC 5.5 OW pages 12 month GPA average for 5.5 is $848 12 month GPA average for 5.0 is $855 $775 $750
  19. Getting some comics back now from CGC from this collection. Pretty happy about the grades so far.
  20. I'm not sure if this is a "Variant" or simply a one-off "Printing mistake". Check out the Bob Hope comics #7 in the 1st photo. Notice anything missing? This comic is up on ebay right now if someone wants it. I didn't want to spend that kind of money for an oddity, but I think it's pretty cool. Has anyone ever seen this mistake before on this comic? I guess they had a printing "screen" devoted just to the photo image of Bob Hope in the corner? I would have thought his image would have been printed with the rest of the black ink. 2nd photo is a close up of the missing image and 3rd photo shows what's missing.
  21. This Flash 123 is one of the 1st comics coming back from CGC from this collection (I still haven't bought the entire collection yet.... I've got about 5 more long boxes to go) I pressed this Flash 123 and as stated above, I thought it would get a 4.5. However, It's coming back as a 5.5 Blue Label I think that bodes well for many of the other comics in this collection.
