  1. I love that one too. He told me he found it at an antique store with a price on it of $180. The owner saw him holding it and said he'd let it go for $90. As my friend paused and thought "wow, what a good deal!", the owner blurted out "$80 and it's yours". My friend bought it for $80, which I'm going to guess is a really good deal.
  2. The Thing lost one of his toes and fingers too (I wonder if he lost any other appendages?)
  3. I had my Avengers 2 out today and noticed on the Splash page that Hulk only had 3 toes on each foot. I wonder how many times that has happened thru the years? It made me want to look at the Hulk 1 cover again to count the toes. Um.... is it me or does Hulk have 8 toes on his left foot?
  4. The front cover is very nice. The insides are immaculate, with posible "White pages". The back cover is where the problem is. A complete "tab tear" around the lower staple area. The staple is still holding the cover snug at the bottom. Also, there is an old tape stain down in that area (tape is gone)
  5. I've got an "only front cover" too. I guess you and I will be fighting it out when the next coverless copy comes up.
  6. Robotman, I was visiting with a buddy in Minnesota this week. The guy is absolutely Badge Crazy. I thought you might like to see some. All these photos are only a part of the collection. The guy has these displays in almost every room in his house. Somehow he still has a wife. I'm sure you have a lot of these.....
  7. CGC will have to change their label notation to include "Skull cover"
  8. Is this Schill bidding? Trying to inflate the market on this comic? Don't get me wrong, it's a great comic, but that price?
  9. Whoa.... there's a lot going on with that SS... pretty cool. I can't find a comp of that combination. 9.0 seems pretty low grade for such a modern comic. I'm guessing $120 - $150 value? Still..... that doesn't really answer my question. Are Infinity related books still hot? I'm guessing they plateaued.
  10. I just bought a high grade Silver Surfer run at a low price. 1-82. Are 34 & 44 still hot? Or has the Thanos Infinity Guantlet thing cooled way off?
  11. Sgt Fury and the Howlers 1 CGC 7.5 had a huge result in the Heritage auction too. $8400. That's huge compared to where it's been. https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/war/sgt-fury-and-his-howling-commandos-1-marvel-1963-cgc-vf-75-cream-to-off-white-pages/a/7246-96605.s?ic2=mytracked-lotspage-lotlinks-12202013&tab=MyTrackedLots-101116
  12. Did anyone take note of Daredevil 7 9.0 in the Heritage auction yesterday??? It went for $8400!!!! The last one sold for $2250 11 months ago. An 8.5 went for $1650 a week ago. Whoever bought that 8.5 must feel pretty good right now. https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/superhero/daredevil-7-marvel-1965-cgc-vf-nm-90-white-pages/a/7246-96585.s?ic2=mytracked-lotspage-lotlinks-12202013&tab=MyTrackedLots-101116
  13. If only Stan were still around to do a big messy signature over the scuff. We miss you Stan. RIP
  14. Yeah, I agree..... I'm just kind of stirring the pot (is that the right phrase?). Still, a LOT of people got shut out of the auction for a while.... not just for the 9.6, but for some of the comics that followed. Me, I was able to watch everything. The group of bidders at that end of the pool is very limited, but if even one got shut out.....
  15. Nothing earth shattering about this post..... just an observation that made me do a double take today. Ok, I've looked at this cover at least 100 times in my collecting career, but today is the FIRST time I noticed that "skulls" are the irises of the eyes of the giant head. Am I the only one that missed this?
  16. Cool to see this comic starting to get more love, although I admit #50 has a much better cover. This one is pretty nice, clean, solid. Spine is nice. Nice gloss. Biggest problem is some light creases in the lower right of the front cover. A clean and press is really going to help this one.
  17. I think the dude is having fun knowing that many possible bidders were left high and dry when the HA site crashed for many people during the bidding.
  18. I guess the question is always...... would CC or CL had a similar result? If so, the seller would have made $1000s more.
  19. This Pence sale may do a few things.... 1) Remove the "Stigma" from Pence copies. 2) Encourage more copies to come to auction because of the strong sale. 3) Encourage more raw copies to come out of collections and get slabbed.
  20. So there you have it. A UK Pence copy has officially set a record and broken thru the $100k ceiling. A historic moment for Pence copies. I know I will be raising a glass tonight in celebration.
