  1. I guess it's about time that I contributed something more visually exciting to this thread than admiration for the rare Gernsback Amazing images that my fellow collectors have been posting. Here then, are mine... And now individually...
  2. Nice snags, Annihilus! I've always liked Paul's work on those Martian war machines. (thumbs u
  3. Congratulations! Absolute winners! Beautiful Foxes that are tough in those grades. Oh, and BTW, your Phantom Lady #13 is tied for highest census...
  4. ...Is that sort of like like being caught between Bedrock and a hard place or what? BTW, beautiful book, Brian!
  5. Nice picks, feller! BTW, do you think that Cap 19 might be an undocumented Rockford copy? That "S" looks kinda familiar.
  6. (thumbs u Colorful Paul art and the only issue of Amazing sporting a Buck Rogers cover. Nowlan's first Roger's story (August '28) isn't cover featured, but the anti-grav cover on that earlier book is killer. If memory serves, this issue was next to last Gernsback edited Amazing. I have a nice copy of the March '29 issue in my collection and will eventually get around to scanning some images.
  7. Yeah, those are real beauties. I was working on building a run of Gernsback era Amazings before getting back into GA comics, but 80+ year old pulps have gotten much harder to find in grade and the prices are climbing accordingly.
  8. Thank you, sir - I'm having so much (and much-needed) fun. Lucky once again, I've got first crack at a bundle of early AMAZING STORIES (mostly bedsheets), and this probably is going to be the best of the batch - some obvious corner creasing, but a bright and fresh copy with a perfect spine and excellent paper quality! Congratulations on a great snag. To get the second issue of Amazing in such nice shape is uh, amazing luck! One of the classic Paul covers too. (thumbs u
  9. Absolutely beautiful books, RF. That Paul "eye" cover celebrating the history of mankind's technological achievements is one of my all time favorite covers from the Gernsback years. (thumbs u Thanks for sharing!
  10. Nice pickups Bill!! You have been on a roll Thanks David, and the rest of you wonderful geeks It has been a good couple weeks around here for GA Another one arrived today Well, you may not own an Eames chair, but with books like that it looks to me like you're sittin' pretty! (thumbs u
  11. Love the cover Black Terror #12 with the prophetic BIG screen TV! (thumbs u
  12. (thumbs u Intense, beautifully illustrated cover! ...And I doubt that there is another GA comic where the original purchase price is mentioned 3 times. nickel comics Unless I'm mistaken, only the ashcan of Nickel has it mentioned 3 times (does that count?); the copies sold to the general public had 5c and Nickel on them. That's twice. Correction: Nickel probably WOULD have the price mentioned at least 3 times if we're also including the copyright information on the inside, but by the same token (whether nickel or 10c piece) Dime Comics probably has similar information on the inside, increasing the number of repetitions accordingly. I was referring to just the front cover...
  13. (thumbs u Intense, beautifully illustrated cover! ...And I doubt that there is another GA comic where the original purchase price is mentioned 3 times.
  14. My jest fell flatter than an half baked souffle. I was trying to tie the explanation for overexposure in with auctioning specific hot books. It's just my obtuse sense of humor.
  15. Just a quick count of page one shows four Timely threads. By comparison there are four threads of Batman related stuff alone. A few more of other DC characters. And I'm sure page two is half full of Action #1 threads. Frankly the Timelys are under-represented. Let's start that green Timely cover thread!!!!!!! You are right about the pre-robin Tec and Action 1 threads. Each time I see one now, it is like a hammer banging me in the head It's a gavel.
  16. Beee-eautiful book, Ferdelance! Here's another wild Schomburg parachute cover... (A recent acquisition from World-Wide; their scan)
  17. Dear Gator, What does your crystal ball say about the BO for summer super hero flicks? Note: BO can stand for either Box Office or Bad Odor Captain America? Thor? Green Lantern? (Did I miss anything?) Inquiring minds want to know!
  18. Beeee-eautiful Book! And don't worry about PLOD. Here's my ... FOR (Fear Of Restoration) syndrome is an overrated holdover from a time when undisclosed amateur restoration plagued the collector's market. This attitude is gradually changing thanks to savvy collectors, more formalized grading practices (CGC) with full disclosure and professional restoration services. One indication is that on any given Antiques Roadshow you'll see appraisers recommend professional archival restoration for paper (maps, movie memorabilia, posters) and fabrics to enhance rather than degrade value. Eventually this will become an acceptable norm in our hobby too, especially for tougher SA & GA titles. IOW, you've got a real winner there, dude!
