    I only follow GA DC, so I'm not sure about the entirety of the Promise collection, but I saw prices down about 20-25% in the last auction. Random goofy DCs that scored a 9.6/9.8 achieved prices a few months ago that were just not sustainable. And sure enough the prices on similar books went down in the more recent auction.

    I think a lot of people have created the theory that he will pass the collection on to one or more heir... That idea gets complicated if we are talking $50M/100M+. The temptation to sell at that level is mighty high as another generation and possibly multiple heirs gets in the mix. Just my two cents.

    A little off topic, but I thought this was the best discussion to include this... It is rumored that DA once said he is not selling unless it was for a "life changing amount of money". Given the prices that his MH books would now command, I think we are at that level... Any chance we see DA's truly good stuff coming to market?

    I'm going to stick with my prediction of $5M. Although I think prices have indeed softened from their June highs as Gator said, I still think this will get to that very strong price. Or it could peeter out too... what do I know.

    So you told Theo to go for a Promise book? I believe if you buy a Promise book today, you are buying at a 5 year peak of hype right now. I suspect Promise books that are resold in the next 2 years will go for less than they do this week. It is an amazing collection for sure... But you might be paying a premium for the hype. Just my two cents... but what do I know...

    This is very true. Many of those collectors have lost money in this hobby.

    This is a beautiful collection of books. I agree they are overgraded. (Check out the dust shadow on the back of the Tec 114 9.8.) However, CGC has been 9.8 GA happy for a few years now. I think many books are now rewarded for the cost of the CGC process.

    Comparing those two books .. although both 9.8, the $6500 looked tighter. Check out the right edge of the $5200 version.

    Yes. I agree. The card people don't know what a snipe bid is... It's crazy exuberance. 1980s, 1990s, 2000s PSA 10s are not that rare. "Chrome refractor"... I don't really know what that means.
