  1. Without Magnus I say it's got to be; storywise: Eternal Warrior Public face of Valiant: X-O Manowar
  2. It's interesting they mention the last issues being rare. That is exactly what I was thinking as I was reading through this thread. I bet the last 10 or so issues of each run had pretty small print runs and very few people were probably collecting them at that point. Most probably ended up getting dinged up in quarter bins. I'm not saying those last issues will surpass the more significant key issues in value, but they are definitely scarcer. The final issues are definitely scarce, but I wouldn't advise reading them. ...if you value your sanity in any way. That bad, huh? Worse. X-O Bike. And not a motorcycle. An actual bike. Dear god...you weren't kidding; http://onlythevaliant.com/2012/04/x-os-greatest-moments-number-9-x-o-bike/
  3. Found it asking $2,400 or BO. Seeing as how a 9.8 only goes for $200 and more are sure to pop up, I think an amount around $1,000 would be fair.
  4. I believe they recently had Jason at a store signing at their downtown location.
  5. 9.9 signed Hughes 1:100 cover on the bay asking $13k http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=231504538766
  6. Anyone know which cover CGC puts front on the flip issue of A&A #8 and EW #8?
  7. Maybe this is the first print off the press Imagine how the hobby would change if each issue was individually numbered. Something like; 00001 / 50000
  8. Last week I would have said that picture looked like $15. Today, who the hell knows? True, I'll have to keep these near the slab pile.
  9. First appearances have been selling much better since the investment news There has been a flurry of buying on eBay in the past two days, but some of it probably doesn't have a "reason". First appearances do have a reason... it's the first appearance. Here's a list of first appearances from the early 1990s that are related to the current Valiant universe, which have been moving swiftly on eBay: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=8444782&fpart=1 Magnus, Solar, and Turok were licensed in the 1990s and aren't part of the Valiant (owned) universe. So, some "classic" Valiant books aren't included in the first appearances list (Magnus #1, Solar #1, Magnus #12 (first Turok)). They are still popular early Valiant books, but those characters are no longer in the universe. Wow, Magnus and Turok would have made for interesting tv or movies, it's a shame they lost them.
  10. 2 more pages on the way, thanks Felix!
  11. More bad news with these polybags. So all together now I've opened about 30 polybags from 5 different sources, LCS, eBay, Internet store, etc. Out of those 30 maybe 2 are potential 9.8s (I'll let you know when they come back in 55 business days). Besides the weird line indents I've noticed almost all the copies, regardless of the source, have a dent next to Cap's head (see photo below). This has to be something that was happening during the printing. Most collectors probably have a copy in its polybag and won't notice the damage till they try getting it slabbed.
  12. Well said. Hastings may be among the worst when it comes to packaging. I'm done with them. Midtown has always sent books packed extremely well that were handled with care, same as Third Eye Comics and MCS (slabs). I have yet to have anything but great experiences from those sellers. I've never had a problem with Midtown, Third Eye, or MCS. All package their books like pros. I've had problems with Midtown before. I ordered 10 blank Superman Unchained and a couple had big dents and one in particular had a big dirty thumb print on the cover.
  13. How would you recognize a 9.9 from a 10, BTW? 10 is an ideal grade, earthly perfection does not exist, let alone on a delicate paper item as a comic book. My guess is once you rule out any physical imperfections you start inspecting the richness of the color and paper brightness.
  14. Here are some photos of different comics. Most of the polybag issues had something similar.
  15. I've only opened one and left the rest in their bags. That ratio makes it less likely for me to open any. Thanks for the info. (thumbs u How was the condition of the one you opened? Probably 9.4 to 9.6. It wasn't terrible just not perfect. Sounds like a good one. I'll take pictures of the opened ones and post them up tomorrow, you can see these lines indented that definetly came from other polybags or in the production.

  17. Heads up, those polybags hide a lot. I cut open 15 copies and only found two 9.8 candidates. This is after trying to see through the polybag for any defects. My advice, don't buy any polybag copies in hopes of getting a NM copy, there's just no way for the seller to know. And it seems the entire poly bagging process was not too friendly to the book, a lot of copies had weird lines indented into the cover. That may explain why there are only 41 9.8 copies at the registry.
  18. Those are a bunch of cosplayers in those images. You're better off picking up AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #9 (1st part of SPIDER-VERSE) as that's Spider-Gwen's 2nd Appearance. Many have ignored this book. I'm currently selling this coupled with her 1st Appearance (1st Print/NM), with various SPIDER-GIRL #1 variants (including Hughes) on Ebay - 11 Books total. Problem is, how could these be "cosplayers" if the characters did not yet exist? And how about how Gwennie looks dead-on at the reader in the final panel? It will only take one submitter of this book to CGC with a request to update the label with "First Appearance Spider-Gwen, Cameo" or whatever, and Whammo! -J. I can really imagine Marvel writing a story that resolves this comic. SheThor is hunting some magical dimensional/time jumping creature that runs into Spider-Gwen. Gwen teams up with SheThor and chase the creature to a place where it can hide unnoticed...a comic con. They do battle, capture the baddie and return home, and this issue becomes canon.
  19. Thanks for clearing it up guys! I guess I'll buy a copy just in case Marvel decides to write some magic time traveling story with she-Thor and Gwen that explains it.
  20. I couldn't disagree more - the problem with those last two movies, especially the most recent one, is that they were terrible. That has nothing to do with interest waning in Peter Parker as Spider-man... I don't even know how you would arrive at that conclusion. Well since you asked. Let's start off with some critics reviews of the last Spidey movie. There's a reoccurring theme here: I saw the movie, I read many of the reviews. The -script just sucked, it has nothing to do with Peter Parker. Nothing. People are tired of seeing the same two Spider-man movies, how is that the character dragging it down? I agree with a lot of the points you're making about Miles, but this one is out of left field for me. No one is going to see an awesome Spider-man movie trailer, and then when the mask comes off go "Awww man! That Peter Parker guy again?! I'm out." It isn't going to happen. Ever. I didn't see any of the rebooted films in theaters, and barely paid attention on cable. I'm just bored to death of Peter, Aunt May, Uncle Ben, and MJ. Miles or even Spider-Gwen would get me back in the theatres.
