  1. Hey Mike,

Welcome. I agree, except permission was given by CBLDF. I contacted Eric and let him know that although these books were (1) offered with permission (2) by a willing seller and buyers, that (3) I can see how this is an issue.

I wouldn't be disappointed if they canceled the whole thing. Sorry, Menace. I appreciate you and think you tried to help us boardies out who can't go to a con. It's not worth if its going to be frowned upon by Eric and NWM crew who have been most generous to us boardies.

I agree I haven't wanted to cause panic but if they cancel on me I will abide.

  2. We're talking about $2,000. That is how much Menace will make from this endeavour.

I think what you are missing is I had made MORE than this with private PM's offering me $30-50 per book to pick them up.

One option I had was to go to the booth buy as many as I could and re-sell them right? Seems like a whole lot easier than contacting the CBLDF asking to set something up to greater benefit the charity and deal with this fallout.

Anyone who wanted to rent a house, buy a $300 tables, pay to travel to a show, plan months in advance to go to a show, dedicate their lives to a studio and industry they believe in, quit their jobs, Quit going to school to be a doctor... feel free... jump up and say I was doing something wrong here.

  3.

I would have made more money staying quiet...

People were offering me $30-$50 to get them a copy before I offered this. Some offering that for multiple copies.

You did well sir. A good name is better than a few bucks.

That is the thing I wonder if this was helpful with my reputation here and in the industry.

We all know because I was one of the people being asked to get them that people were being asked to get them for insane prices before I did this. Some of you even mentioned it. If I had not got involved 4-5 people would have gotten 80% of these books and sold them here or on ebay to people who had been asking us to get them. Instead they got not just double... 4X the donation as the previous scenario.

I thought I would get 60-80 orders, and did not think I needed a limit, in quant or total.

Within a few minutes I identified there was a problem and emailed who I could and place my own cap on the total.

  4. I'll play - I think they'll cap it at less than 100.

i think he had the 200 before he actually managed to resell them. There is a big backlash playing out behind the scenes to all this. If he gets capped at 100, it will be in response to pressure from others.

I kind of assumed there would be.

I think it's great that Menace offered this service for people who aren't going to show, but once I saw the multi-orders streaming in, I had a feeling it was going to be iffy ... the CBLDF know that the book is going to be a hot property and makes no sense for them to presell a huge chunk of the entire print run to a small group of people before the show.

It makes total sense, everyone was just planning on going in and paying 5$ per book for multiple copies and reselling them later.

  5. Is there even a limit on what you can get if you were to attend the con? No limitations posted on CBLDF/ECCC sites.

I had no trouble getting multiples of exclusives at the few times Ive been to a major con and Ive seen people buy large stacks as well.

Theres also the fact that we are paying more than the original price

i dont think its the per person amount that is the issue. A convention exclusive being pre-sold outside the convention, is more of where the back lash is coming from. Obviously all 500 wont be sold, but if it was, could you even call that a convention exclusive any more?

Turning it into a direct market book, via the boards, that's the quandary.

Wow just came to check this thread this morning... I don't see it this way it is not being sold outside the show. I won't get mine until I walk in, and yes I was going before this I own and run a studio and was promoting our comics and art.

  6. No one really needs to order 20....bit excessive

The two at 20 copies and I think one just wanted to help reach 20 books so he kept upping his quant :D

Again thanks to everyone for taking part. I am glad I can help out.

  7. Similarities between Invincible 19 preview and Nowhere Men #3 I'm not sure if you can read the dialogue but it is very similar.

    Similar, but not the same.

The characters don't look the same, don't have the same names, and the situations discussed are substantially different. If there was a comic featuring these same characters that actually referenced these scenes, it would be the same, but as it is, this is more a false start than a first appearance.

And as far as the WWPDX thing goes -- there are 500 copies for sale, plus creator comps -- and no, that particular version of the book won't be printed again, so be cool and leave some for the Fund to actually sell at the show.

We will definitely not take them all! Although I had not anticipated such a response I think people going to the show should get a shot too!

  8. Anyone else notice a few people joining just to grab a copy in Menace's thread?

    Bring the heat

I wondered about this how are people seeing this? lol I think its high on google.

Shows up directly under the actual CBLDF link if you search for the variant - perfect timing today if they actually looked it up themselves ha

    Woa cool!

  9. just like pre-sales orders, it leads to more being printed then originally intended

I can not speak to this point, I originally thought it was 1,000 but I doubt they can be printed and delivered before Friday next week.

  10. Hi guy and gals!

I have, at the prompting of board members, got in touch with one of my contacts at the CBLDF.

I figured we could earn a lot more money for the CBLDF so I will be starting a sales thread for these books in the Modern Comics Sales area. They will be selling for $30 each there starting in a few minutes. I have a guarantee that I can come by during set-up and choose my copies so they will hopefully all be minty fresh.

  11. Looking forward to Emerald City. Getting 3 books remarked by Adlard (including my 9.8 SS #27 signed by Kirkman already) and getting a sketch from Charlie. On top of that getting some books signed by Danai Gurira and these should all look pretty badass once back in my hands and framed and hung up on the wall.

    :)

:D I will have some pics for you to show off before I sub them

  12. That really sucks. Poor guy. You can see the signature isn't consistent, looks like he had trouble making the C. Looks horrible. Plus that COA doesn't even look real. The art itself is bad too. I'm sorry for the guy who bought this. Makes me want to get the pages I have authenticated....

    That sucks!

  13. For those who do not venture into the Signature Room I am doing a private singing with Charlie Adlard before Emerald City. He is doing little sketches on comics as well for us. Message me if anyone wants to know more details!

(if this is not allowed ie posting this here, someone let me know and I will remove it)

I just wanna know if you can get me one, if I don't go. I got cash

Of course that is why I posted :D
