  1. I always enjoy peeking in on the silver age appreciation thread but there are lots of great FFs to follow in the bronze age... So bring them out.
  2. I was debating this with my brother in law the other night and for me at least, this has been the best superhero flick to date. Probably alone in that but it worked for me, flaws and all.
  3. Dave bought a few books from me. Easy to deal with, great comunnication. Happy to recommend and look forward to dealing with again. Many thanks!
  4. I wish all 5.0s looked this amazing. +1 Great eye appeal. Too bad it has those White Pages, foolish move per some people ! () Such a nice book. Just right for cracking out and enjoying those white pages!
  5. They nailed it, carefully placed two pieces of microchamber paper on it , front and back, placed it within a mylite 2 mil with acid free buffered fullbacks, again front and back, placed that mylite into a 4 mil mylar, placed that into an acid free archival top loader, and then into a microwave signal blocking foil padded envelope, into a lead lined concrete box (constructed with 3/4" galvanized rebar, and shot that biatch into space......
  6. Chad purchased a couple of books from me and it was a pleasant transaction all around. Great communication and very nice guy. Thanks Chad!
  7. The Fourth World books are some of my favorite comics. For those interested the following book is a great read and has some interesting analysis of some of his seventies work. http://www.amazon.ca/Hand-Fire-Comics-Jack-Kirby/dp/161703178X/ref=sr_1_44?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1455333663&sr=1-44&keywords=jack+kirby
  8. I'd agree with that timeline. There's no way Fox ever pulls it off at this point. The Fantastic Four revival can`t be too long,as time will have not only aged them, but their potential audience. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Lone Ranger are perfect examples of this. Once top franchises that because of the long wait they have become unknown to the modern mainstream audience. In other words they waited to long to revive them. Most of their core audience is aging or has passed on. This leaves the modern mainstream audience wondering what all the fuss was about which leads to either bad or mediocre box office. The Fantastic Four franchise is starting to get to that stage of aging. I would expect though the Fantastic Four movie rights will be fought over ferociously over these next few years because it is a potential goldmine with Galactus and the Silver Surfer. Those two characters might be what saves and makes the future Fantastic Four movies relevant. I fear the FF may have missed their moment to become relevant to younger audiences. The fans are getting older and the younger generation has had nothing to draw them in. It's hard to imagine even Marvel spending a big budget on a new FF film - should they ever get the rights back - given that they seem to being doing just fine without them. If there is any fight for the rights it is solely for supporting cast - Doom, Surfer etc. I don't say this to be callous. I am a big fan of the FF, they are the heart of my comic book collection. It just doesn't seem to be in the cards for them given the track record so far. I don't want to say it can't happen but it does seem unlikely. Some of the scenarios sound cool. I like the idea of a period piece. I also think it would be cool to do some animated films. For those of us who can appreciate the potential it seems a such a waste. On the flip side - I still have the books regardless of what happens in another medium.
  9. Recently just finished The Beatles - a Biography by Bob Spitz - Great read! The Pale King by David Foster Wallace - I would only recommend this to someone who is a fan of DFW. 1984 and Animal Farm by Orwell - It's been a long while since I had read these. I am blown away by how well written 1984 is. I used to say it was one of my favorite books and apparently it still is.
  10. Great books! I love this run of the FF. While there is certainly an adjustment after Kirby and Lee, there is lots of great art and stories. Other than 129 - first appearance of Thundra - not that that's a big key - nothing really sticks out that hasn't been mentioned already but who knows.. things seem to change on a whim these days. The picture frames alone are well worth the price of admission.
  11. .... don't feel bad, bro. I'm the guy who LOVED both Hulk movies, LOEG, and the third ASM GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) I loved MOS as well. The best comic book movie for me so far followed also by the DC Batman trilogy and I have always been a Marvel fan (sorry to mirror you there jimjum12 but you summed it up perfectly for me.) Not that I am trying to dis Marvel as their movies are very well made, very entertaining and obviously very successful. But when Superman killed Zod it was one of those rare moments when a movie can transcend it's genre. Like it or not, it gave the movie a moral dimension that you have to deal with - something that killing hundreds of robots could never do.
  12. Whether I have a feedback rating of 10 or 1000, with every new transaction the counter starts at zero.
  13. Gotta go to 77 to complete the Worlds within Worlds storyline. 74-77 is just behind 57-60 and the Surfer trilogy as far as great FF arcs, IMO. you think you can talk me into extending to 77????? ok. After which there is a great Doom storyline in the eighties followed by Torgo in the nineties... next thing you know your at 102.
  14. Claudio is such a pleasure to deal with. Great communication and quick payment. I am very happy to have met him and hope to deal with him again. Thanks Claudio!
  15. Once again, a very pleasant and satisfying transaction with Robert. I picked up a beautiful run of Epics and some stunning FFs - and a very nice SSoC 7. Very well packaged and very tightly graded. I always look forward to Robert's sales threads. Thanks!
  16. I agree completely. My wife really enjoyed the film and made the comment that it was way better than the 'silly' earlier movies. My wife likes Twilight and Beyoncé. Just because our wives or kids like something doesn`t mean we as adult males will enjoy it. Different perspectives for all. With that being said I`m going to see this tonight with my 18 year old nephew and his ex-jock father. I`ll get three reviews to post here after 11.pm est. The 18 year old is a comic geek, while his father thinks super hero movies are lame. Will see what the consensus is tonight. I think that Jim's comments speak more to what he enjoyed about the film rather than noting that the people he went with enjoyed it as well. Saying that my wife enjoyed it certainly did not mean to imply that that informed my decision/enjoyment. I would have thought that obvious.

  18. Can you elaborate a little about the things you specifically liked, and how it "played well". Many critics have stated that it actually starts ok, but falls off the tracks in the last 1/3 of the movie. Since you are the 1st person I've heard that likes it, I just wanted to hear a little bit more of your take on it. I have a thought that most people are going into it with such low expectations now that it is playing better than their low expectations. Difficult to say because I was aware of the bad press/reviews so I had this idea that it was going to start off well but go off the rails at some point. That being said the movie made it's own logical progression that made sense - to me at least. If Trank's vision was messed with then I am sure a darker scarier movie lies underneath because this movie plays as a horror story - in a way. My instinct tells me this had more of an arthouse direction and if that's the case it's too bad they didn't go with it (purely speculation on my part). I think this could have been really cool and I still think it's pretty cool. I would really like to see the film from a year ago! But! This is not the FF of the masses and I think that's where a lot of the negativity is coming from and fair enough. A few things I liked... I thought it was well acted throughout - not just at the beginning. Sue was a powerful member of the team - Byrne's greatest modification/change to the FF! I thought the Thing was really well done, I thought there was a pathos there, I felt like Reed felt truly horrible for doing that to him. I don't go to superhero movies with as critical an eye as I may view other films so I can be quite forgiving of the genre. Though it's plausible the low expectations played a part in my enjoyment I think I would of liked the film anyways and I certainly do not want to sound apologetic for liking it. I liked the film as well. Here is what I liked about the film the overall casting of the film with exception of Tim Blake Nelson. The cast felt liked they came together from the start. Reg E. Cathey and Kate Mara's performances were the standouts. The fresh new take on how the team came to be focusing on childhood through Reed getting a scholarship and going to college. The building of the machine, testing, and the board. The exact reason the team came to be did they want to be and why they broke protocol. The subtle undertones of why Doom and Richards come to hate each other. The effects and way the characters look like The Thing was fantastic. One of the best reasons for me is they decided to try and not go overboard with character development once they got powers Hey look what I can do. The film is going great all the way up to Doom is recovered. I think what follows in the film should of been longer with a bit more development. I just don't think the villain or sense of impending Doom is in the film long enough to be suspenseful and do the film justice. So I will say this is 75 percent to 95 percent are in the film. The way the film ended felt fine. I would give a 7/10 the audience who came out of the theater was talking positive about the film as well except for the climax area they all wanted more there. Can I see why people hate this film sure it is not for Die Hard FF fans, people who hate high school feeling like films, people who hate Twilight, and people who want so much character development that the film takes close to 3 hours to watch. I guess maybe they wanted Herbie the Robot in the film instead. What you got was absolutely new fresh take on a superhero team people were use to seeing the same origins. In my book it is better than the previous efforts for Fantastic Four and better than the first Avengers film that I left the theater absolutely hating. Definitely better than the previous FF outings. I went to a low priced theatre that was about 1/4 full. Most people seemed to enjoy it but also I also heard mention that it was a quick movie. It is different from any superhero film that I can think of and the horror aspect took me completely by surprise. And again, the Thing was fantastic - even sans you know what.... just didn't seem to be an issue.
