  1. In all fairness to sfcityduck, the thread title invites this type of response and the toober in question is not someone l would want on my feed. If you told me 20 years ago marvel was going to make Black Widow, Eternals, ShangChi, Dr Strange 2 and Antman 3, l would laugh and say,‘wait, they made Antman 1 and 2‘.
  2. Is that Brie Larson? No. For the record, I liked CM as well. I thought Brie and Samuel Jackson had a good back and forth and I appreciated the quick third act wrap up. Never understood the fuss really.
  3. Usually we only see Kevin in these discussions but it‘s nice to see Bob pop in today.
  4. I would say, if you don’t like any of these movies, then there are plenty of others to choose from. If you do like them, then carry on.
  5. Or maybe come to terms with these movies having run their course, and other than a few characters, no one is really that interested.
  6. Tim Burtons best work imho. Great characters and supporting cast. It has a ton of heart.
  7. Yes! I do! They work for you though and that’s great! Enjoy! I don’t think they’re bad, just not great. They are far too contrived imho but that doesn’t mean they can’t be fun. l have no desire to rewatch either. Remember, l’m a grumpy old man.
  8. If you love them, that’s great. They just haven’t stayed with me in any meaningful way. It’s funny how disposable villains and no stakes will do that. Movies that made a great deal of money but not great movies imho. I would never say they did not entertain. They were well worth the price of admission.
  9. X2, First Class, DOFP, Deadpool are all outstanding and for me, better than most marvel fare though I would include First Avenger, Winter Soldier and Iron-man in that group of great CBM's. Logan, by far though is my favorite and I think is easily the best in the genre to date. I just don't see marvel topping the good stuff here. My opinion of course.
  10. You are aware marvel didn't make those X-men movies right? But I'm not as sad about the X-men as regards marvels plans, because I feel we have had some great X movies from Fox.
  11. You are aware marvel didn't make those X-men movies right?
  12. I have little faith marvel will make a compelling FF film. Rather, I see them shoehorning them in to fit past events, quickly reducing them to catchphrases while fitting in at least two end credit scenes. Same for the X-men.
  13. Fair enough. For what it’s worth, I enjoy your insights once in awhile. Your obviously intelligent and passionate and that’s never a bad thing.
  14. This is a great post. l disagree with your use of high and low art here and there but really appreciate your qualifying it as your opinion. It shows a basic courtesy lacking by some.
  15. They are different things, experienced in different ways, exciting different reactions. Art is not measured in man-hours to produce (I hesitate to use the word create here) but in the amount of time something stays with you. By this measure the MCU is about as low as it gets.
  16. I cherish my years of comic books and the stories they delivered. Even with all the comic book films and shows I have enjoyed. To me, comic books were the key influences for the productions we enjoy today. Without them, I'm sure we'd be enjoying cowboy and gangster movies from time to time. And periodic Sherlock Holmes films. Agreed! It's insulting to have to state the obvious that all art is its own experience.
  17. Wow, really? A completely different medium I would say. I will stop there.
  18. Everyday Iger brings his leftovers in for lunch and leaves them on the center shelf in the break room fridge and everyday he finds someone had bin nibbling at it. When he found out who, that was it.
  19. When I saw the Taika (I like him, Ragnarok and his other films) video talking about L&T, it seemed he had almost contempt for the material. That the studio was that unaware is telling. Why let someone who has no respect for the material direct it.
  20. You know your arse is getting old when: 1. You know Blanche from not reruns. 2. She don't look half bad. The wonderful benefit of growing older is all the beautiful older women who suddenly catch your attention. Youth is truly wasted on the young!
