  3. There were many aspects of the films that I liked; the cast, new continuity etc, but in hindsight the Abrams movies have not aged well for me. JJ is just seeing how much he can blow up in as little time as possible with little regard for story. Entertaining, perhaps. A fun night out, sure. They don't hold a candle to the original films in heart and story, IMHO. Now get off my lawn! I actually like the third one the best as it gets back to Star Trek roots. Not flawless but serviceable.
  4. I rewatched Spider-man 2 a few weeks back (the Doc Ock Rami version) and was struck by how much it reminded me of Donners Superman movies. Such charm an innocence to those movies.
  5. Sorry for any repeats, they are pretty obvious. Sometimes they get blanked out because of copyright in Canada, so I do see a lot of 'video not available' screens.
  6. Not to take away anything from ticket sales but here in Ontario, the latest restriction is on food snd drinks because of omicron. Without those sales, theatres are still going to be hurting.
  7. Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night screaming, in a cold sweat, because in the dream you just woke from you really didn't like the latest MCU film all that much.
  8. Ended up seeing this Monday night in Imax. Pretty busy as well. This is a beautiful, beautiful movie, on so many levels. The soundtrack is really starting to penetrate my memory. Something to be experienced.
  9. I’ve said many times that i’m tired of comic book movies but despite that, there have been some great movies, and many more that were very entertaining in the genre. Unfortunately there have also been those with potential that succumbed to the limits of the genre (i.e. the bad and unnecessary cgi fight scene). I’m definitely more of a comic book and movie fan than a comic book movie fan and l think the hardest part to stomach with comic book movies is reboots and origins. If l have to hear ‘with great power comes yada yada yada’, one more time l feel I may get some great power and act irresponsibly with it! The potential is there for good movies in all genres and no one really tires of a good movie.
  10. Same here for me! Had to go right back and watch it again. Definitely going to try to see this in Imax if I can
  11. Late to the party on this movie as I have avoided all talk or previews. All I can say is wow! As a Dune fan, as a fan of the 'cinema', wow. I wish I knew what it could be like to see a movie like this without being at all familiar with the source material. Great film that found it's own voice - no easy task. Can't wait for part 2.
  12. All of the Star Trek TV series have had something to offer and have many excellent episodes imho. I think I've said it before (not that anyone cares) but Star Trek the Motion Picture is easily the best of the Trek movies so much so that it is a great movie in it's own right outside of the genre. The rest of the Trek movies are very good as well with 2-4 being a great little run. ST5 the Final Frontier is a bit terrible and Undiscovered Country a welcome redemption. TNG movies all good. I don't consider the JJ Abrams movies part of the canon though they are entertaining enough, more like action movies than sci-fi but man Abrams reboots are pretty tired at this point and they don't hold up to the originals at all. I love Star Wars as well. Does one need to be any better than the other? When either have their moments, they are amazing. That holds for a lot of other stuff as well.
  13. I for one welcome our new female overlords! If it's well written, I have no problems with it.
  14. I don't mind a long sales thread as long as the seller keeps an up to date recap with working links to pages that's fairly easy to navigate. Otherwise, I can't be bothered to look through an unorganized cacophony long out of date. I don't think we need a rule but it is certainly in a sellers best interest to make their thread manageable and easy to use otherwise it's as you say, 'costing them sales'. I'm with you in that I prefer one book or lot per post, with sold prices remaining intact. Again, I don't think it should be a rule but sales will go to sellers who give you clear pictures or scans, clear information and as much information as possible about the condition of the books. One reason I would be against a rule for the thread length being restricted is that a well run thread serves as a record or what sold and to whom and for how much and there have been many well run long threads. Maybe we need an example or template (tips on how to run a lengthy sales thread) to point new comers in the right direction, maybe some links to some past sales threads that are well done.
  15. I’m hoping for a slower paced movie in the mold of Lawrence of Arabia.
  16. He has been around quite a bit, hasn't he. If we leave out Star Wars - not that he was bad or anything - I think he is quite good in everything he does. I look forward to his take on Duke Leto.
  17. I'll take deep, beautiful and boring any day of the week!
  18. I like the trailer but I patiently await the movie. Seems faithful to source material from the little I can see. I like Pink Floyd but found it a distraction. I want to hear the Hans Zimmer soundtrack, not Pink Floyd. I look forward to what Denis Villeneuve brings to the table.
  19. That caught my eye as well. Looked pretty cool.
