  1. Awesome job! So I wonder then who got the 9.6 sticker across the top of their 9.8 book? I bet money that it is mine sir since I was the only other WD #109 in that lot.
  2. I didn't pay attention but did Image/Skybound announce any sort of 1:200 variants or anything similar for this issue?
  3. On the Signature Series Submission Form that you get when the HI covers make it to there new owner......Far right hand side it has a spot for Fair Market Value. Mine reads $200.00 for each of the first four I got. I really don't care about that. Its a made up number. As far as low grades....I don't care about that either. These are one of a kind. If I were to grade all my pgs. of OA from the Walking Dead Issues, I'm sure a lot would grade lower that 9.8...These are done by hand!!! These are more than an artist signing them. I would hope that they pressed hard with there markers, pencils, and paint brushes to give me there best work. Art work that has a light press tends to fade faster. Nice in order to claim these as modern and not standard tier they have to claim $200 or less a piece. So what happens if say a shipment of these coming back ends up lost in the mail? I wonder who would eat the loss due to hugely under insurance these. My guess is HI would be on the hook.
  4. Anyone else possibly interested in the Fantasy Football league?
  5. PM sent out to the first 12 people including myself who were interested in playing.
  6. Curious if we have enough Walking Dead and Fantasy Football fans to somehow organize a 10 to 12 person league where everyone antes up some sort of WD goods or the equivalent in cash.
  7. Got my big Walking Dead #1 Tony Moore print signed by a few more Walking Dead cast members today with Scott Wilson and Lew Temple. I will try and get some new pics up shortly. Up to around 13 or 14 sigs now on it. Also a word of warning to anyone getting sigs from Iron E. Singleton. He was at it again today writing random comments on people's stuff when they ask for just a signature and maybe "T-Dog". He did this to my big print writing some random truth and love comment on it a couple years ago and was doing this to multiple people today including I saw a few comics in which he took up damn near half the book in signing/commenting on it. Now Lew Temple was so much fun to hang with that I had to have him sign close to T-Dog on my print and write a funny comment on it to kind of off set T-Dogs dumb remark. Also with Neal Adams being a last minute addition I was able to get a NM+ copy of the Walking Dead NY Wizard World B&W variant from Dave & Adams Cards (and now comics) via their eBay account. Great customer service with them, I ordered it a week ago under the commitment that they would ship it UPS 3 day so I would get it in time for this con. Well with SDCC things got way behind and 2 days ago on Thursday it still hadn't shipped. I understood and just said I was cool with a refund but nope, instead they insisted on overnight delivery at no extra cost to get it to me and even gave me a $25 gift card/credit towards my next purchase. Glad to see such a great group / store crossing over into our comic community.
  8. Yes it's funny. It's a modern that is probably an ungradeable copy. It's just funny. I don't know, sh*ts and giggles.... Just slab it and see what happens. I got a #19 that looked just as bad for free from someone. I threw it up on eBay raw and still got almost $40 for it a while ago.
  9. Season 4 looking good. Need more Maggie undressing.
  10. Anyone have any extra copies for sale of the 2 Wizard World New York Neal Adam comics? Looking for 9.8 candidates to get signed by Neal Adams at an upcoming con next weekend.
  11. That's not how it works... $12,100 - "fair value" = amount you can claim as a charitable donation. We discussed this a few pages ago. What determines FMV? Here is the defenition from IRS Publication 561: You would have to argue that the FMV of the Adlard cover was less then what it sold for. That seems tough to me. That's why I say you would need to prove that it's FMV is more than what it ended for. $$ - $12,100 = deduction. Either way you want to look at it, consult a competent tax preparer. I don't think the recipient of the artwork can claim ANY write-off because they are receiving the artwork that was sold on the open market. Regardless that the money is going toward charity - the fact is, it sold on the open market and the fact that it sold with the proceeds going to charity does not change the value of the item received. The person getting the write-off here would be the artist IF the artist donated the piece and did not get anything in return. Oh, and never to post here and not take a shot on WD prices. No offense, but 12 grand on that WD cover :insane: :insane: :insane: The IRS has a whole damn page dedicated to Charity auctions and write-offs. HI will not give you a receipt that says this comic is worth X but you actually donated Y. If you push them for something in writing it will say exactly what you got being a book in an open auction format that ended at Y being what you paid. Then when you get audited and the IRS contacts HI and they say why yes this is an original one of a kind piece of artwork, of which the market for it was set in the open auction we held on eBay hence it is worth that amount in our eyes and we can't claim it to be worth a lesser amount, then said auditor will have their way with you and your records. Until that Adlard either pops on the open market or HI confirms the person paid for it I don't believe that price is legit.
  12. In my experience Hero will offer the book to the next highest bidder in the case of a no pay. The fact that they are a tax write off always pushes the initial bids higher. If/When they do come back up for sale from the winning bidders they almost always go lower. I can say I do hope the winners are opting for CGC grading. As far as resale goes it's a no brainer, although I'm one of those collectors that operates on the "once it goes into my collection, it never comes out!" At least until my kids are ready for college Ya, I feel the same way, I wanted to get a couple to re-sell, but I've never re-sold anyting... They just stay in their boxes.... So you can write these off in your taxes? Also, what do you mean they go for lower once they are put up for sale? p.s. What kind of bike do you ride Troy? I got a 03 Road King on 21/18" rims, True duels, bout to put the 95 kit in it and give it gear2gear... So does HI give some sort of written statement with these about what their fair market value is? If not when it comes to being a "tax write-off" just hope you don't get audited. << In addition, donors who provide goods for charities to sell at an auction often ask the charity if the donor is entitled to claim a fair market value charitable deduction for a contribution of appreciated property to the charity that will later be sold. Under these circumstances, the law limits a donor's charitable deduction to the donor's tax basis in the contributed property and does not permit the donor to claim a fair market value charitable deduction for the contribution. Specifically, the Treasury Regulations under section 170 provide that if a donor contributes tangible personal property to a charity that is put to an unrelated use, the donor's contribution is limited to the donor's tax basis in the contributed property. The term unrelated use means a use that is unrelated to the charity's exempt purposes or function, or, in the case of a governmental unit, a use of the contributed property for other than exclusively public purposes. The sale of an item is considered unrelated, even if the sale raises money for the charity to use in its programs.>>> Maybe put a little simpler - the amount that you are able to deduct is reduced by the value of anything that you receive in return. For example, if you donate $100 to NPR, but they give you a CD as thanks, and that CD has a value of $10, then you should only deduct $90 on your taxes. I think determining the market value of these HI covers will be tricky if you are trying to include them as a charitable deduction in your taxes. You would have to prove the item is worth more than you bid. But since the ending price is determined by the active bidding of market participants, then how can you argue the item is worth more than the ending bid? If it was worth more, wouldn't it have ended for more? You could argue that the comic would have ended higher if the auction were to be extended, but good luck with getting an IRS auditor to agree with that. If you do not itemize your deductions, then don't bother researching it any further. If you do itemize, consult a competent tax preparer. DONT deduct it and hope you don't get audited. Yup. This is where if HI does assign some sort of value to the sketch which is less than the amount the auction ended at then maybe you have a legit claim, otherwise if you are audited you will lose your argument in that the book was worth less than what it went for in an auction everytime.
  13. That one will probably go for $3K. The HI sketch covers are the only truly limited variants out there. There is overprint for every limited variant made and those extras do sometimes make it into the market instead of being destroyed.
  14. EXACTLY. I read that the Image Expo was limited to 1000? But god there is so many it's so hard to believe that only 1000 were made. Someone correct me here...Thanks These limited WD print runs are not always what they seem on these variants. I know for a fact that overprinting on some of these "limited" prints have managed to find their way out the backdoor of some of these events. Last years Image Expo color and B&W variants being a prime example. Really? Well this I have to hear. Why would you think any went out the back door? With your connections I would figure you would have a good idea of which "limited" variants have more now floating around then the original release numbers.

  17. I am sitting on about 40 of them. Damn production flaws in them though I am not sure what will or won't hold them out of being 9.8s. I have 10 of them that I think even with the minor production issues have a solid chance at coming back 9.8s. I will see starting with the above one if it does or not.
  18. I decided to take the $1000 I was going to put towards trying to get one of the #100 sketches and just spread it out over #109 sketches. I will get more bank for my buck.
  19. Here is some Darryl Banks zombie goodness. Can't wait to get this back from CGC.
  20. Chandler does a ton of shows now so that might be why there wasn't as much of a line. I enjoyed meeting him and his father a few times before. They are good folks. My funniest encounter was meeting the actress who played Sophia at a Horrorcon about a month before she was killed off the show. I was talking with her and her father about how it must be great for her up and coming career to be on a show that is taking off, and that her character in the comics is one of the few that have managed to survive the onslaught of Kirkman killing everyone else off. The way she was reacting to my discussion with her father about it had me a little confused when I shook his hand and walked away, but it all made sense once I saw the spoilers later that weekend that she was being killed off and had turned into a zombie.
  21. Wow at how much those Wizard World #1s in 9.8s are crashing and burning across the bay. Looks like you can get any of them now for under $100 a pop and some even as Sig Series copies.
  22. Someone went crazy again winning some of these today. I think the above *529 eBayer won a bunch more. I am done trying to win any, outbid on 5 different ones today and even the kind of crummy ones are now going for skyhigh amounts. So anyone on the boards win any from this round?
  23. I'll need a 9.8 copy down the road, for my variant set. I'm leaning towards waiting on one that has already been slabbed. God forbid I taint my set with a book less than a 9.8 HOLY COW POOP bass punk....Your collection is remarkable......I just pooped out a baby..... (worship) Thank you Last count, I think I have 25 9.9's and 3 10.0's I am gonna rent out a storefront here in downtown Louisville and we can open up a WD Museum with all of your stuff and mine including all the OA I have still.
  24. Wow at eBayer *529 Some nice pickups and plenty of money to spend on these.
  25. I'll need a 9.8 copy down the road, for my variant set. I'm leaning towards waiting on one that has already been slabbed. God forbid I taint my set with a book less than a 9.8 Do you think they'll actually pop back into circulation anytime soon? Haven't had a chance to really check but based on what we can see with people bidding on these has someone won a bunch of them? If so they may be planning on flipping them (crazy in my mind if they think they will profit off these already insane prices).
