From these comic book ads? I've always wondered how easy this stuff was for a kid to sell. How did it go for you? Did you make much money and/or earn cool prizes selling them? Were the cards easier to sell than the seeds? Where did you live at the time? I think it was back in about 1973 that I tried selling these “Lifetime Social Security Plates” … from what I can remember they were pretty cool and made of aluminum. The plates had an eagle and flag on the front along with the person’s name and social security number. I sold quite a few but mostly to friends and family although I went door to door throughout the neighborhoods and sold others as well. I don’t think these would go over very well in today’s world of identity theft, people wouldn’t be so accepting to give out their name and social but back then it wasn’t such a big deal.

I’ve submitted a few moderns before but this was my first Silver/Bronze submission that I just got back from CGC yesterday. Nothing really high grade but some pretty cool books. These Iphone pics are not very good as I took them at an angle to reduce light reflection. I was really happy with this Captain America #119 … purchased raw from Bedrock at the Wizard Con in NOLA for a great price! I’m working on issues #100 to #200 and this is a sweet “white page” addition. Nice copy of Iron Fist #1 purchased from cdfever for $55 Invaders #5 purchased from a fellow boardie here ! Captain America #110 purchased from a fellow boardie … possibly could have been a 9.0/9.2 Low grade Avengers #5 purchased from a fellow boardie for a good price ! Low grade Batman purchased from Mark (kramerica) for $35 … thanks Mark ! (thumbs u Strange Adventures #119 purchased for $10 from Ray O’gara (gmci2112) who was the boardie here that was tragically murdered in November of last year. This was the only book I ever purchased from Ray but through the process of this one transaction I had great conversation with him about his (and my) adoration for the band “RUSH” … hence the “2112” in his CGC username. What a great person and I’m honored to have this book he sold me. Rest in peace Ray … I know from our chats that you were a genuinely awesome human being.

Although I have a 4 bedroom house, aside from the master bedroom and guest bedroom my toddler son has taken up the other two rooms as his “playrooms” so I have decided to turn my office into my “comic room” until I can commandeer one of these rooms back to transform into a true comic room. I’m planning on using primarily Silver Age books with an occasional early copper or modern in which these books will typically be low value/grade books that are not really part of my “official” collection. The books will predominantly range in value from $50 to $100 and since they are low value books I’m not really concerned with damage from the sunlight although windows are tinted and blinds block the majority of the light. This is only the beginning pictures as I plan on adding comic racks with books, action figures and tons of additional framed books. I have a tremendous amount of wall space and plan on filling it with the beautiful and lively colors of awesome comics! I have over 20 more frames right now and gathering books to put in them.
