  1. Super thanks, any panels...your thoughts so far
  2. super book...how was the convention? did you go to any panels?...can you give us a update or a new thread???
  3. Buyers are not aware of how much they overpaid, until they exit and try to sell to break even...when has chuck never had a sale, its always 40%, 50% etc...I cannot remember when it was ever 100% full retail? can you?
  4. from a $$$ standpoint Nev and Ariz much more friendly to business, agreed.
  5. there are a lot of GA/SA collectors here and a large number of shows including Terry,SDCC etc...which could expedite service which is the other guys weakness right now....more costly agreed
  6. yes they have been sending books from collections they have acquired or on consignment, there is a mile long backup that is why you don't see many on site yet. They claim there is going to be a "new" state of the art chat board..however they had better answer there phone first...if you ask me they will never really be a threat to the CGC given the new additional layer of corporate BS they have to go thru to function, if they were not bought, they were finished unless sold to the CGC so they did a sideways merger...still they are gonna be sold at some point with CGC...they just took away some of the PGX and other side business. But CGC could benefit from putting a second location in that same area or California might be better to expand and increase good customer service and put more pressure on the other guy to merge. As it becomes more apparent to GA collectors that a CGC graded book will bring more auction $$$ the worse it gets for the other guy. Just look at this auction, not much in the way of the other guy and they are in the same area.
  7. And the other guy does not...with untimely delivery, difficulty in talking to customer service, and the only real way of communation is going on their boards and they still accept what they cannot grade in an acceptable time frame. I agree not even close to being a competitor yet...maybe down the road, I think the gravity of economics and well as a slight decrease in auction results vs CGC will force them to merge with CGC. I know their close relationship with Mycomicsshop.com in terms of locations does give them a change to survive especially with the way MCS is buying dealers and collections according to their newsletter. MCS probably has overtaken Mile High in terms of quantity of quality material as the largest comic book dealer in the world and they can pick them up or get dropped off at the other guys location.. I would of assumed that CGC itself would of branched out in other areas by now. I could envision the CGC creating its own auction division providing a "discount" given to CGC graded books only. They have the best comic book boards in the world, which would lead to a easy creation of a platform of the exclusive auction of CGC graded comic material..that would also put pressure on the other guy to follow suit...they would never catch up.....
  8. If pressing was used to really restore a mishandled comic book, a spine roll etc, I can understand it, to do it every time..like a zombie just to increase the grade to make more money or the chance of it..seems excessive...and that is where we are at now, at this point....respect the book, not the grade on the label...and play a dice roll...
  9. Pressing is the ultimate face job for GA.....kindly like plastic surgery....on a 60 year old woman for the tenth time...that is how I feel about it...
  10. I will second that, I would take any GPA with a grain of salt....
  11. Auction could hit a record..10.75M...I agree with you Cat on this one, its a strange world out there, I would stick with mainstream..Cap1, 2, 3 etc over 10X guide mille the model...
  12. we now know were the bargains are ...so keep it quite...LOL
  13. Let the real bargains begin, over 1000 lots today and some great stuff out there, the auction is almost 10M, my preduction today is close to 11M, several books I have never seen before. On the Church mixup, when you are buying that many comic books you are gonna forget what you got, it does not appear given the condition some of the books were never opened...mixups do occur.
  14. see comics general there is a list on page 8 of the lee thread
  15. a tireless champion for the comic book convention as well as creating fandom new wave with letters pages in AF, FF, etc..those banded together fans..RIP
  16. he was a great comic book convention champion , RIP
  17. You nail it down when focusing on the "younger collectors" coming Into OA/GA. The dealer to dealer sale is what has generated the historic rise in OA prices and a few..are buying into the hype that have the money. You can see prices only hyped so much that even the big OA whales are gonna buckle...then the only safeguard is dealer to dealer sales to keep the market afloat and when a couple of them blink..its over and REAL value takes over. Again, buy what you really want and enjoy..Dont buy on the grounds that everybody else wants it or its gonna go UP forever. You will be very sorry you did. The best attitude to have is that I am going to have to keep this piece for the rest of my life..do I love it enough to say who cares what the market price is up or down...that is the true test of masterpiece ownership. That does not mean you cannot sell or trade or upgrade your masterpieces down the road, but just be satisfied that you don't have to look at the GPA or OA price guide every week. If the new OA/GA collectors come in as true collectors then that will lengthen the price stability of OA/GA/SA...so look at the makeup of the new collector..is the new collector buying widgets or real comic books, is the new collector buying because somebody is gonna more down the line or is it because they are true collectors. For 50 years OA/GA/SA has been on a straight line trajectory upwards overall..never assume that will last forever. Without that childhood bond, of enjoying great adventures as you were growing up..connecting with that material and going weekly to the drug store with your friends, we must look at WHO these new replacement collectors are...and what they will do when a downturn occurs...will they hang on because they love comic art or will they jump the sinking ship like rats the minute it becomes apparent that it is not gonna sell for more...your fate, my fate is in these hands of the future collectors in terms of retaining value for what we paid in the past....the only solution for the true collector is be true to yourself when you buy and enjoy it.
  18. I still do, but that does not mean you are gonna get your money back..or that it will go up....just be happy you own and enjoy it.
  19. the problem with that is there are only a handful of people in the world, than can afford a Warhol...as prices rise the number of available buyers thins....once the top two bidders are sidelined, that is when the decline occurs....its gravity....so as time goes by the odds of 50 collectors paying 2-3 million are slim and none.
