  1. Characters is what made collecting so great in the early days, a lot people knew each other, because we were a rare breed. One thing in common is that we truly loved what we were doing and the creative explosion in the material on the newstand at the time the was super. Few could or would believe how far we have come since then. Getting to where we are today, was not easy, but it certainly fun. I wish we had a great board like this in the early 70's it would of been amazing, but we did have the early SDCC's, Berkley, SF etc at least on the west coast. Still, a lot of the early characters were great collectors, true collectors not just about money, but about getting the best stuff in their collection...that was it..getting the great stuff no matter what it took.
  2. congrad on coming on the boards sharing your experiences, cant wait to read more, thanks
  3. AMAZING...never saw that one before......thanks for posting
  4. In my opinion Russ Cochran's Frank Frazetta Famous Funnies cover portfoilo was one of the things he ever did, I believe Frank recolored and without any lettering on the plates they turned out super....could be a underpriced item if you can find one now...anybody have one?
  5. amazing< i have seen sky captain # times did not pick that up
  6. over 6.6 million...very strong 3 day...cong to all who won
  7. excellent report thanks for the photos..you might want to consider putting this in the gold section where there are some theads on pulps
  8. auction total $5,496,5056.00...prediction 6,001,000.00 as I recall one the lowest totals
  9. Cong Bob on getting to the editing stage of your lifelong project, as I recall a few years ago you had told me at SDCC that you had some tapes on old retailers and comic book company owners etc, can you give us a tease as to what those might be in the upcoming book...thanks and glad you are alive and well and please more pic's if possible.
  10. 1.7 mil so far...are we gonna crack 7 million?...we will see if FritZ painting sells
  11. I believe that Bob was medically forced to retire from the comic business on doctors order...which might be the reason for the sudden shutdown in july>>>i am hoping bob is still reading on the boards and can give us a update as to his heath and his book that he is working on>
  12. I would say true comic book collectors, who have been there, done that...it still is exciting to see books I never seen before and some of the great new publications which respect comic book fandom...
  13. This is a small auction in terms of material..GA wise or comics in general, after breaking records this year.....solid prices however.
  14. I will second that, and I hope it turns out to be a great read
  15. I think bob was suspended for two weeks, as I recall, I think he can still post here? His comic book store wars project is very important, and he has material than cannot be replaced or duplicated in this 20+ year project, I hope that this gets published for all of fandom.
  16. Late july was when he shut it down, he was a true pioneer in comic book retailing, and establishing serious comic book collecting on the west coast, especially northern Calle. He would of been a major player such mile high or MCS etc vv but for a terrible wherehouse flood which destroyed his inventory as well as a top comic book art collection....
  17. My understanding is that Bob has just retired being a comic book dealer, BLB comics to work on his dream project of "comic book store wars" detailing the early history of comic book retailing , I hope he completes this dream project, there is a lot of important information and research in this 20+ year project that might be awarding winning.
