  1. Other factors include the rising cost of just buying OA/GA...many auction houses are now charging sales tax, additional shipping costs, going to a convention such as SDCC or NYCC costs more both for the dealers and the attendee's which makes it more difficult than the old days of easy buying. If you buy something from Ha or comic connect in order to break even it has to go UP by 10/20% assuming you want to get the highest price and that is another cost factor. My concern is for the short term-I want to make a profit speculator who runs are the sign of a downturn and makes it worse, the person who does not care whether they are buying FF5 or FF255 at 9.9...it is all the same....just like a stock or bond or whatever. The connection especially in childhood to great memories of buying comics, being amazed, waiting for every Tuesday for the new comics to arrive, is hard to replace. I cannot put my head around a 650K marvel comic book cover, unless its a ASM1 just because two rich dudes have big egos does not create actual value. That is not about the piece itself, it's about winning at any price. These crazy sale prices are bad for the long run of the hobby, and think about the guy who bought and attempted to resell, how many people out there have the ability to pay that price, let alone agree that the price paid is the true value. I repeat, buy carefully and buy what you really want to own as a true comic/OA collector....and don't buy under the belief that somebody is gonna pay more. This way when downturn comes you own OA/GA that you can say, I love it..and don't care what is the market price...that is the way to be a winner here.
  2. the upper most valuable stamps have retained value, similar to what comic books will go thru..Action 1 will always be valuable. However, the decrease in NEW COLLECTORS...people that are buying stamps for that purpose has died off and as comic book distribution lessens and less people buy the hard copy...that diease will effect our great community. Time passes on, like the dime novels where there were acutally conventions and pulp mags whose value has gone nowhere the last 10 years. The real issue is when and will the price decrease be slight or sharp. I think it will depend on what you retain in your collection, Action 1 will decrease the least amount, the fools that are paying 10X guide for a 9.8 as opposed to a 9.4 which in my book is a slight appearance difference will take the hit the hardest. This is a time to be CAREFUL in what you buy, ahead of what the experts are calling another recession in 2020.....dont over pay is the key especially on a over hyped book. That applies to GA,SA and OA. The golden rule is , if it goes down to 0 value who cares..you just want the book no matter what.
  3. Nothing lasts forever and OA prices and GA prices will come down...look at stamps for instance...40 years ago vs today where only the most important pieces have retained any value whatsoever. What kids collect stamps today and when as adults can spend disposable income? I think the real issue is whether it will ever happen in the next five years. You have to ask yourself how many new big players are in the market and how many are leaving vs coming in. It seems the age demo is getting older and older, just look at pulp collectors..and pulp con collectors, those prices have gone nowhere, Dime novels of many moons ago, record collecting etc. My primary concern is getting "young" blood true comic book and OA collectors not speculationrs who will run away the minute the market makes a downturn for a significant time period. I think that is the answer, the day the majority of the collectors and investors want to buy something because it will be worth more later in time and not for the art itself which changes the the collectable into a widget and the day when the wind blows downward it will be the beginning of the end of the upward trajectory. Who has made these prices rise? so fast and never down for long? is it the true collector or the investor or the dealer selling to another dealer. Food for thought.
