  1. 8-10 k is range depending on presentation,pq, etc Thank you Gator visual presentation and quality of restoration plays a big role, so sometimes tought to "estimate" without specifics... (thumbs u for a 1.5, this has great presentation IMO. Colors are tough to get bright on a Cap 1, and this one has it. Not sure what the BC looks like but a nice 1.5 http://www.comiclink.com/itemdetail.asp?id=917322 That's owned by a board member. The back cover isn't so bad for a 1.5. It used to be owned by another board member prior to being slabbed. It has nice supple pages, and the colors are really bright. It's the nicest low grade copy I know of. Unfortunate about the insect chew at the lower spine, but it's only on the spine cover, doesn't go thru to the pages as I recall. The piece out of the upper front cover never bothered me at all. Good luck to the board member on the c-link posting.
  2. The story, as far as I've been able to deduce from years of investigative research, is that the issue number looks hand written because it was originally written by hand. But that is where the trail gets cold... I've not been able to finger the culprit but I'm hoping that my research will eventually yield thumbone that we can nail for it. This may be a very early example of computer enhancement, since the number was digitized.
  3. Yep, I knew about the Federal Men comic. Just stretching a bit from the Feds pulp at 3 am.
  4. I don't see the similarity....am I looking at the wrong book? Probably not. At 3 AM, one's mind plays tricks. I saw a guy holding a drowning victim, and thought immediately of Detective 9. I suppose I was hallucinating.
  5. Interesting how the center book is very similar in composition to Detective Comics 9. Here's a comparison image (not mine, sadly): Detective Comics 9
  6. Well, that's every collector's dream find. Why doesn't that ever happen for me?
  7. Interesting the decision by CGC not to list the Gaines "rank order" on their slabs. Rationale was that since the time of initial release, many books had changed hands and there was no certainty that the books remained in original condition. Sounded like a good reason to me, and since the certificates weren't supposed to be separated from the books, one would still theoretically have the rank order and the CGC grade. I once owned two books that had been ranked 9/12 and a 12/12, one graded 9.6 and one 9.8. It would have been interesting to see what the "higher order" books graded out!
  8. I don't know which book I'd want to read most - so many choices: "12 Chinks and a Woman" "Hot Dames on Cold Slabs" "Naughty Virgin" "Sexecutives" What a selection! Pre-code horror had nothing on paperbacks for sheer lurid covers.
  9. Nik has very cool books and is a pleasure to deal with.
  10. Eons ago, I purchased what remains the best book in my collection from Steve. 'Nuff said.
  11. And Vince Colletta inked it. Just think how much more incredible it could have been otherwise...
  12. I love this pic. Looks like the book are in great shape. Over his right shoulder, you can see New York World's Fair 1940. His collection goes back quite a few years. He's holding Famous Funnies #17 from December 1935. This kid could very well still be alive. Based on the photo, he'd be 75-76 years old. Too late. That's Davis Crippen.
  13. Thanx to silverseeker for well-priced mylars. (thumbs u
  14. Kudos to limited66 for a 9.4 Captain America 131 bronze book! (I have an original Gene Colan page with the cover scene, so I wanted a nice copy to go along with the page). Quick ship, priced right. Thanks!
  15. Amazing cover. What an image - the nazi soldier being grated like cheese by the steamroller. Propaganda in pre-politically correct times. Nothing like it!
  16. Those comics weren't mine. They must have been your'n.
  17. Looks like a great product - if it's durable. Could you comment on its sturdiness?
  18. Thanks to MLMeade and to Dudeman5000 for nicely shipped books that were just as described.
  19. old news. We want new pix - deadbeat dad danny not felonious forger danny.
