  1. I posted the Barks run of Ducks in the For Sale section if anyone is interested. One and only cheap promotion now over. Please enjoy the greatest duck cover of them all.
  2. I need a coverless World's Best 1 for a cover I just bought. There's a back cover only complete issue on Metropolis for $500 but the tape kind of kills it for me at that price. Any others? I'd pay straight up $300 for a complete coverless that had CR to OW pages and were otherwise VG or better. Ed
  3. That is an unreal copy of a mega rare key. Any other books your friend has. Should I say "friend"? As in; Doc, I have a friend who has an STD, what should I do...I mean, what should he do?
  4. Anyone hear from wormboy lately? He has an outstanding order for $22 from me and hasn't posted since my "For Sale" thread on 9/14. Again, not a big deal money wise, just trying to get closure and see if everything is still A-OK with a board member. Or if others were having a similar issue but didn't want to speak out. Ed
  5. If that's what Fay Wray really looked like, I'd have thrown her off the ESB. If I were a gorilla that is..... " 'Twas beauty killed the beast."
  6. A slight change in subject but with all the reference covers that we've seen; has anyone come up with a cover that is similar to but prior to Action Comics #1. The car over the head would appear to be original to a super strong man. Is it really as original a concept as we think or might there be something similar in a pulp, magazine, or book cover (or other graphic design)? Ed
  7. See Daredevil, Wolverine LS, and Watchmen for other examples of this. I think ubber key's like AF15, FF1 and even SC 22 can be exceptions even if movies sort of suck.
  8. Jim, I just don't think that is the case since I don't see any other 15 cent Gold Key's other than July 1968. Granted I haven't researched it hard core but out of a lot of 200 Gold keys these two were the only 15 cent copies. And it happens that August 1968 is 15 cent seems awfully coincidental. Still, I'm willing to be convinced if I see other 15 centers like this. Ed
  9. Just got this in today and had to show it off.
  10. I sold this one on comiclink and it was clearly a gift grade with multiple, though tiny, spine lines and a significant skuff just over the 35 cent price itself. Still a bargain as I had it listed at $900 for quite a while and $600 was the best offer I got. I'd imagine it'd sell for higher today but wouldn't break the $1000 mark or maybe not even get close. Ed
  11. Here's another Gold Key price variant. Similar to the Tarzan which was dated July 1968, this Ripley's is dated August 1968. Besides the price, all else is identical.
  12. If all you have is 20 unique issues, then this is grossly misrepresented. I can't imagine those types being all in G to G/VG unless there is overall water damage. But either way, a 50% or more refund seems to be in order. My impression was about 50-70 individual issues where only a 25% refund might be in order. BTW here's my point of reference. I have a warehouse seller who sells me long boxes all the time (see my Golden Key sales thread). He sends them to me first. I review and make an offer which so far he has accepted each time. Even then I get disappointed because there's only so much I can do with 25 cent Harvey's. But no way in he11 am I going to pay before I get to see them. It helps that we've been doing this for 3 years now so we have mutual trust, but I still wouldn't pay first. That said, I feel for you, as having crappy books hanging around the house is a bear. I say eat the loss and move on, it's not worth the hassle other than a paypal dispute which you're following.
  13. I agree with you, but a lot of the allegations are without basis - 1. That he cherry picked 2. That all the books are water logged 3. That he claimed via paypal that the Heroes were worth $15 each (I actually believe this but I can't verify he did in fact say this, context is everything). A lot of this is either conjecture (I am not a lawyer but I watch LA law) or doesn't matter a heck of a lot. But yes, any misrepresenting should be paid back in full. And I hope I am not acting like the morality police just posting a different viewpoint. As a morality policeman I would suggest that he either refund in full or to an agreed upon amount to protect his reputation. I would also suggest he not sell items like this again. I would also suggest buyers not buy mystery boxes or items that appear too good to be true. I would only suggest these things if I were a morality policeman..... which I am not.
  14. No argument that you will lose money here but you took a chance and lost. CS takes a hit to his reputation as he deserves. But his refund should be based on what he promoted that turned out to not be true. Ie how many comics at no more than 5 copies of any one issue did you get? The percent less than 300 you should get refunded. You can only do that on a per box basis and not in aggreagate if you bought more than one box. Same with condition to a point. But some of the allegations seem as over the top as CS saying he did nothing wrong. In the end I don't have much sympathy for those buying mystery boxes and then being outraged when they are disappointed. The misrepresentation - yes, value for what you paid - no.
  15. I'll back up CS a bit here. First of all, from his sales thread it looks like he sold 18 long boxes and not 15. I can believe that if there were water damaged books, especially if heavily damaged, that he pulled those out. But even if not, so what. I'll grant that his discussion leans towards selling the boxes "the same as he got them from Filter81" Still, in the sales thread Qualtiycomics early on mentions that they went from Koch to Neat Stuff to Filter and had been culled all along the way. Plus if you believe that the water damaged boxes were pulled and you factor in postage, he really is selling them for about what he paid. He was selling them for $150 shipped and postage via media mail is about $18 per. They are then being sold as a mystery box. Everyone gets their panties in a twist if they are out $75 but if they happen to make $150 nobody comes running back sharing the profits. It's similar to buying a NM book and sending it to CGC, getting an 8.5 and demanding a refund but you get a 9.8 and HAHAHAHA. As a seller CS has hurt his reputation. Whether grossly or only slightly misrepresenting what is sold - it hurts his reputation. The self policing on this board has done a nice job as usual. But the outrage for being scammed is getting a bit much. It sounds like most folks were out 10% of the number of books with another 10% were over duplicated than advertised. Plus some in less than advertised condition. I partly feel like you get what you pay for. Sort of like paying money to a Carney and not winning the big prize. From a disinterested party's point of view I'd go with a $50 refund per box as fair compensation. Tempest in a teapot here folks. Link to the Original CS Sales Thread
  16. Whovianone seems to have dropped off. He is currenly a non payer to me on a $20 lot so no biggie. And he was a good buyer in the past. Hope it's just a temporary thing. Ed
  17. I sent a near set for cheap to Steve Borock, he may have dups he'd sell. Ed
  18. Love the affect of an image seen in someones glasses or goggles. I wonder when that was first used, not just in comics but all graphic art - ads, pulps etc.
  19. Living in Baltimore and seeing quite a few collections here, 30 centers are very common, though not as common as the regular issues. If I run across a collection in Baltimore and it has no 30 cent variants, then it almost always came from somewhere else or the comics were bought in VA or PA or some such. The only 35 center I randomly found was an Iron Fist 14 and in that collection there were no 30 centers so the collection probably came from somewhere else.
