  1. It is a joke but would a letter like this be out of the realm of reasonableness for any of the folks doing auctions in this day and age?
  2. Dear Helen and Pop, We noticed the Detective 35 you had for sale and wanted to advise you on the opportunity for this rare and valuable comic. While you may finish the auction through ebay, we'd recommend you go through our auctions site which is exclusive to high end comics such as yours. We have a buyers list of over 10,000 clients who have purchased comics worth over $1000. We recently sold a Detective Comic #27 for over $1 Million dollars. If you decide to submit your comic through our auction services we can give you a special offer reducing our auction fee by 20%. There are quite a few steps you will need to take and that we can walk you through in order to maximize the sale of your Detective 35. We'd be happy to help. If you decide to finish the auction through ebay, we do wish you good luck. Please let us know as soon as possible as our next auction concludes in April. Have a great day and we hope to hear from you soon. Signed THE WONDERFUL FOLKS AT HERITAGE
  3. Anyone know the deal on the Tec 35 that got pulled on ebay? Scam? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160408598921&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
  4. Wanted to revive the thread and ask a question regarding the history of the Whitman label? When was the first Whitman label? And when was the date range of comics that have both a Whitman label vs a Gold Key label? Is it pretty definitive that the rare Whitmans were three pack only and sold in Canada? What peaked my interest was the low number run of Beagle Boys versus Uncle Scrooge. At first I thought it was only a Gold Key run but there are Whitman versions. I assume there are no real rare ones but they aren't easy to find either.
  5. I'll take a PM as well. I'd suggest at least post the cover and use bitty bits of paper to cover any of the naughty pieces. If the cover is lame, post one of the more tame pages.
  6. I need a coverless Archie 1 and Worlds Best 1 Need a centerfold for Cap 36 (Hitler cover)
  7. The other crazy part on any of the high grade SC 4's out there are the prices and price ratios of mega key's to the minor keys/ average books. Especially relative to Marvel. As an example X-men 1 in 9.2 vs a generic X-men semi key like issue 35 in 9.2. Compare that to SC 4 in 9.2 vs a 135 (second GA Flash) in 9.2 Without getting into the particulars of the specific transaction above, my take on the market is that high grade SA DC's, especially semi keys, for some reason seem to do really well. Detective 359, Batman 155 and joker covers, Action 214 252, Wonder Woman 105, Aquaman 1, etc. So when a mega key like SC 4 in such nice shape doesn't hit the $100k mark like it's marvel counterparts, from a financial perspective, I'd think there was more up side (or less chance of downside) with the SC 4. 8. Just picked this up, though not in hand. Can't wait to flip through it. Goebbels Goering and Hitler cover. About as classic as it gets.
  9. I betting if you check comics from July 1942 you'll get flag covers as well.
  10. Is this "Falling in Love" #46 with the story A Winter Song If so I fear for our future. What a second.... http://www.comics.org/issue/16529/#615075
  11. The general thought was that condition didn't matter all that much back then and there was certainly less of a price difference between a Good and a NM (with NM really being a VF at best) It wasn't until the Mile high collection surfaced that folks saw the difference between high grade collecting and simply collecting.
  12. Low side indeed, probably need to add a zero that number. The copy BZ has is so nice it actually looks trimmed in the tri-pic and clearly it is not when looking at the scan.
  13. What's the general price range on that pulp? I might look to pick one up. Ed
  14. Anyone have the first Cthulu "The Call of Cthulhu" published in a 1928 Weird Tales?
  15. It could be issue 13 as well? Above it is Star Comics v2 #1 Feb 1939 Below it is King Comics 35 Feb 1939
  16. Pretty excited about a collection I just picked up. About 10 small boxes of 1980's Gladstones - Library's, comics, hard covers, digests etc all in high grade. 2 boxes of DC 100 pagers in various high grade. And 1 box of Golden Age, mostly Four Color - Tarzans, mickey mouse and a few Fawcetts. Guy was a big buyer from Geppi back in the day. Some old Geppi labels.
  17. This thread needs a comeback. BTW have other Buzzy 70's come out of the woodwork? I've lost track of that hard to find issue since Ian found one. Curious too if the reason for the rarity of this book ever came to light. Ed
  18. Do any of these have advertisements on the interior covers?
  19. Probably but I'm guessing that there are quite a few front-cover-only Batman 1's that need a back cover badly. But yeah a clean OW Batman 1 coverless has to be a $2000 book.
  20. Back to the regular program. Here's an FC 488 White Mountain - and not yet slabbed.
  21. Oooh, another one. Get ready to lick your mining pick* (Xmas Rudolph reference)
  22. I paid $180 for the cover. I figure a complete Good is worth around $800-$1000 so why not.
  23. Whenever I come across a coverless or cover only, I do come back here and comb through past pages. I also helped out a boardie find an Action 13 centerfold.
  24. I just bought this on ebay kind of on a whim. Plus, I've seen more than one coverless issue out there so I figure one will show up, especially on a squarebound like this one. No spine splits, tape or major distractions, so hopefully an easy way to get a nice key.
