  1. I've been wanting to show off my collection in my office. Unfortunately, I haven't been successful in getting my office into a state I would be proud to have people look at.

Recently, my wife surprised me with a display case to keep in our dining room where I can display some of my collection. I love the display case she picked out and I plan to rotate out the items in the display every couple of months. So, hopefully, this is interesting to some of you.

For one thing, they are awesome! You can find magazine size Mylars and boards at HotFlips.

    Hey thanks.

Generally speaking, aside from ultra high grade copies sought by collectors finishing their runs, they usually aren't worth much. BUT, as Oak said, they are GREAT comics with gorgeous covers, and terrific to own. I bought a stack at a yard sale for 50 cents a piece a couple of summers ago, and I keep them in the bathroom for a bit of light reading. ;) But seriously, it's a great series.

Cool. I'm looking forward to reading them. Sounds like I don't need to break my back trying to collect everything.

  3. Well, I could use some help.

I've recently started reading Robert E. Howard's Conan stories. Today while in a thrift store I found 30 Marvel Magazine Conan comics.Conan2.JPG.9a1d19731cc1797a9911ddfbcd1a0d0b.JPG

So my first question is: Are these anything? I'm stoked to read them because they should provide great D&D inspiration.  My second question: How do I care for these? I normally get Mylites for my comics. Do Mylites come in this large size? Anything else I should know?

  4. I commissioned Livio Ramondelli to do this Sketch cover homaging The TSR., Dungeons & Dragons red box art by Larry Elmore. I picked it up at ECCC this last weekend. I had Livio replace the fighter in the original art with Grimlock and put in some items from the G1 run as part of the dragon's treasure.

I also video taped an interview with Livio about working on this piece. If there are no objections, I'll repost the art along with the video once I have it edited.

ECCC is not what it used to be (good and not good).  Not good, because the comic book dealers are pretty much getting pushed out the door.  I looked at a few books but the prices were way more than I was willing to spend (I bought one modern - lol).  I looked at a few books and was interested in several at Greg Reeces booth, but just wasn't interested in haggling over prices (not sure if they even will).  Gaming, statues, memorabilia and cosplayers were everywhere.  What I enjoyed the most (the good) and where I spent most of my time, was the new artist area.  They moved all the writers and artist this year to one floor.  Finally met Rob Liefeld. He was extremely nice and took a picture with me.  Got a sketch from Tim Vigil and Buzz (enjoyed talking to them).  DScott and Snyder had a line at their table (I went back later and picked up a copy of witches).  I also ran into Joey and Greggy (perhaps they could remind me (again) who the other boardie was that was with them), and I didn't get a chance to say hello to Royce (Toast).  My highlight at the end of the day was getting my picture taken with Stan Lee.  It's pricey but I figured this may be the last time I got a chance to meet him.

    I agree with this.

Anyone looking forward to getting ECCC commissions???  I took this show off this year...

It's crazy how much I'm looking forward to this con. I'm taking the train down tomorrow (Friday).

I have a commission from Livio Ramondelli I'll be picking up. I sent him a book to draw on two months ago. He finished it up early and sent me a pic of the completed work and I couldn't be more happy with it. I'm also planning on doing an interview with him while I'm at the convention. I might wait to post the commission until I have the interview edited just so I can post them here together.

In addition, I'm taking two blank sketch covers with me to ECCC. But, I have no clue who (if anyone), I'll ask to work on them. So in that line of thinking. Totally open to talk about suggestions.

If you submit your books for onsite grading, CGC guarantees they'll be ready for pickup before the show closes on Sunday.

Onsite grading is limited, though, so make sure you drop off your books at the CGC booth as early as possible.

    Thank you mschmidt,

That would be great to get them back before the end of the con. But I'm totally cool with them being mailed to me also. Any idea what I would be paying per modern book with a limited edition cover?

  8. I've never used the CGC service before and so I have pretty newbie question.

I read on twitter that CGC will be offering on-site grading at ECCC. I have four books I would like to have graded/slabbed. Can someone tell me what I can expect from my visit at the CGC booth? Will they grade and slab my books on site. Or will i pay a fee, learn the grade and then they will ship them off to be slabbed? What do you all think I can expect from this?

  9. So this is a fun one. I am a fan of Lewis Black, a long time comedian and voice of Anger from Pixar's Inside Out and my all time favorite character Wolverine. Doug Peters was able to secure the autograph and I told my good friend Ash Gonzales to have fun with it. This is what he came up with, I love it.
