TFCon was this last weekend. There I met IDW comic book artist Casey Coller and Picked up this commission from him. Homaging Secret Origins Special number 1. The Batman villains have been replace with 1980s Transformers villains from the old Marvel comic. From Left to right we have Robot Master, The Mechanic, and Circuit Breaker. The shadow of Optimus Prime looms in the background.

  2. I just wanted to pop in and introduce myself. This is Kris/augustus22/SketchCollector from various other social media sites we may have run into each other on as collectors. My Transformers collection, both comics and figures, centers around the IDW universe. I primarily focus on high-grade (9.4/9.6+) IDW comics, original art/sketch covers, and faithful representations of the IDW characters made into plastic. I'm happy to buy slabbed (CGC only due to OCD reasons ;-)) but I prefer to submit them myself. I'll post some of my collection here for those that are interested. Thanks UltraMaximus for the awesome thread and sharing all of your knowledge of these books. I started collecting a little over 2 years ago and have been playing catch-up.

    Welcome :)

  3. Jam sketches/commissions are great! I like what Yoshi said about contacting the artists before the con. I'll add if you have any rudimentary art skills, rough out what you'd like before hand, that way the artist has a solid idea what you want, and not try to understand what you want. I started a jam to recreate the scene of the deactivated Autobots from the classic Marvel Transformers #5. Worked out well until I had Jose Delbo add to it. It was either a language or concept issue that lead to Huffer not being in line with the rest (Not to mention the horrible round, not square truck cab/hood)

    I still like it.

On a fun note, I was thinking of a sketch or something to get. I have a few blanks that I could bring. I was thinking on getting a connecting sketch between two artists. Something fun. I don't know if it's possible or the cost, but I think it's a fun idea. I was thinking some kind of play on the dogs playing poker. I could talk to Milne, Coller and Griffith about the logistics of it.

    That's such an awesome idea!

My advice to you is what I do. Contact these artist ASAP. Let them know what you want. Let them know you'll pay in advance and mail the comic book out to them in advance of the show. This will allow them plenty of time to work on your cover commission.

This year (Chicago TFCOn) turned it to an unexpected, pretty big deal. At least in my opinion. Something I gave my word that I would not to talk about till the convention starts. But will be a good example of why in the future people should contact these artists ahead of time.

It's also not related to the ongoing IDW Transformers universe, but original G1. So I wont talk about it here after the convention. Hit me up privately if you'd like to know.

  5. Yoshi, would you say that the shows have a good amount of Transformers comics for sale? I know that the toys will be there, but I'm looking for some books. I know with the artists there, I should be able to find some.

The Canada shows have sucked for comics. Good for getting stuff signed or the random exclusive. Bad for finding much of anything. I've been told the U.S. shows are much better. I can't speak from experience though.

  6. TFCon

Anyone ever go to this? It's about a 5 hour drive but I don't know much about the show.

I've been going to the Toronto show for the last two years. This is the first year I'll be attending the U.S. show.

The first year I went to the Toronto show I was a bit pissed off due to the fact the show is not 100% transformers centered. This last July

    .

The guests have always been kind and fun to talk to. Never had any issues collecting autographs or conducting interviews.

I would say, to generalize, the fans are kick at these shows. Having been to PAX and ECCC, the fans that go to TFCon are amazing, fun to talk to, and lots to learn from each other. Just limit your interaction with the staff.

  7. Thanks guys, I did indeed buy it directly from Casey. A really nice guy for sure.

He even gracefully explained why he'd never sell his killing joke cover, which I'm sure he's been asked 1 million times

I've heard him say the same thing. I could have sworn he said on twitter with in the last year that he gifted it to a friend of his. But I can't find a mention of it now. Maybe I'm wrong.

  8. At TFcon Toronto 2016, I was able to get sketch covers from James Raiz, Matt Moylan, and Nicole.

Alex Milne, Josh Perez, and Sara Pitre-Durocher where also available at the convention.

If you can attend TFcon Chicago, I would watch their website and twitter feed and if an artist is announced that you want a sketch from hit them up right away so they and you are prepared for the job.

  9. I took some of the Transformers #100 covers that I had gotten for myself and commissioned the first three cover artists to work on the original mini-series to do sketches on them while at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con.

Cover Artist to Issue #1 - Bill Sienkiewicz

Cover Artist to Issue #2 - Michael Golden

Cover Artist to Issue #3 & 4 - Mark Texeira

It was fun interacting with the artists to get these done. Seems few people know that Mark was the penciler for #3 and Carl Potts was the inker. In the back of the book, Mark documented his and Carl Potts' contribution to these books.

I got these mainly for fun... if anyone is interested in picking one up, drop me a PM, I'd be open to discussing... except for the #1... that's a keeper.

A scale of measurement to describe my jealousy has not been invented yet.

  10. Let me pick up that mic and slap you around a little bit.

It was an OBVIOUS PUMP AND DUMP. You got caught. GET OUT and DON'T COME BACK.

Buying from you was supposed to show that I had no serious ill will, I collect Transformers books, so yeah, when I see a Transformers book I want, I buy it. It's probably best as you use stock pictures and the book probably wasn't even the one shown, or in condition as you described, and in that case I would have negative feedbacked a bad seller who deserved it.

So I looked into things, and can see you have been on probation here for being a scum bag, so I was right that it translates to real life. I never forget a scum bags face, especially one with such a "Stellar" reputation:

You have a PR nightmare on your hands. Don't come back.
