  1. I had all three of those matchbox cars as a kid. Did the horse wagon have the horses as well?
  2. Maybe I am kidding, maybe I am not kidding... and maybe I had to do this ONCE... and once I was done, the individual MIGHT have kind of begging me to take his money to reimburse me. IF this happened it would have happened almost 12-15 years ago when laws regarding what went on over the internet were not what they are now. Just sayin' @BlowUpTheMoon
  3. I hate all of you. You are all a bad influence. $250 - 15% = $212.50 and shipping was free.
  4. I just spent $200 between Grocery shopping, Liquor Store, and Home Goods. I might pass this one by. On the plus side, I will be making this sometime this week... https://www.tasty.co/recipe/lemon-chicken-spaghetti-squash#.ltmkk8W8X
  5. This thread is going places... Not to the "sticky'd-must-see-threads-in-comics-general-place", but places.
  6. I really did like this... it definitely has that Rick Rubin sound to it and Eminem sounded like the long lost Beastie Boy (yes, I realize it was intended to seem that way but I liked it nonetheless)
  7. Um... I don't know if I am seeing this analogy. I was raised on good old 92.7 WDRE / WLIR. Billy Joel and things like that.... The Smiths, U2, The Police, The Cure,... then I discovered this Sinatra guy... then Johnny Cash and the Beatles... from there I branched out and discovered all sorts of music... Now flash forward a couple of decades and I already have tickets to see the following this year: Billy Joel, Dead and Company, Paul Simon, Jimmy Buffett, Zac Brown Band and I know I will catch a Phish show somewhere before 2018 is through. Point is that people will discover new things on their own. I went from GI Joe and Transformers to Amazing Spider-man to Batman and then on to Golden Age books. Eminem is actually quite talented if you pay attention to the way he rhymes... it's actually a complicated flow of where he rhymes his words and and syllables. Marshall Mathers LP is still required listening as far as I am concerned. Quite good in it's genre.
  8. You need to build new walls about one foot away from the current walls. That way you have a room that protects the room that protects the slab.
  9. Because then eventually people would want a holder for their holder that holds the slab.
  10. Oh no, for the living collector I get that. I am talking about the caretakers of said collection after someone passes. The surviving members of collector, collectors grown children, would not have designed their lives around accommodating such a collection. If I drop dead tomorrow, someone will claim my home. They will sell it. No one in my family is going to want to take and preserve 20 short boxes of books into their home to keep for twenty years. Maybe it's a regional thing as space is much more of a commodity up here in New York. As I sit here at 4:30 in the morning about to go to work, I guess I can compare some comic collections of what I have seen to my personal plastic brick collection. With comics I have gone (in my eyes) quality over quantity. When it comes to Lego, more is better. I have 18 x 25gallon rubbermaid containers full of sorted Lego. One of my cousins love Lego. Again, if I drop dead tomorrow, despite the fact that one of my cousins has the same passion about plastic bricks that I do, he just does not have the space in his house that I do. If they took it in it would be a nuisance. That's why I compared it to coins, because from my experience the coin collections can be consolidated much easier than long boxes. Perhaps I am wrong though because every now and then I do think about selling off everything - lifting two middle fingers to New York and heading west to be @lizards2next door neighbor so I can host BBQ's and play my music loud enough for him to hear for half of what I am paying now.
  11. Sometimes... just sometimes... when someone ignores your call and you are talking about a high dollar amount... AND noone knows the guy's whereabouts... maybe it is best for his well being to call his relatives and / or the police because you are a nice guy and want someone to do a wellness check. Just kidding.
  12. I want to believe this but I am skeptical. The only problem I have with that comparison is that coins take up a lot less space than a comic collection. Some families do not want to be tripping over let alone finding space for multiple boxes of comics.
  13. I avoid books with names on the covers. The only time I had a book with another person’s name was when a book had a subscription label on the back cover. It was a golden age book. Turns out the person is dead. The end.
  14. Not exactly Plastic Crack but I thought I would share. I stayed home from work today. I was not feeling well over the weekend and after being diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection, I decided to take my first day off from work since October of 2016. Whenever I was sick as a kid my mom would get me a matchbox car. We did not have much and Matchbox cars were cheaper than other things and besides... I loved them. While home and doing some work I came across the news that Toys R Us is most likely going to shutter all stores in the next week or so. I dragged myself out and made what may very well be my final purchase at Toys R Us. No I am not opening it, I put it in the cabinet. I searched for something 'fun' and I think I found it - especially since I have driven a Ford for the past 17 years. I took the pic while standing on line. Goodbye TRU...
  15. Agreed... If you are all going to set up a GoFund Me page for Stan, I will set myself up with one where we can crowdsource the funds for airfare, lodging, meals, and tickets to send myself and a guest to see Phish at the Gorge in Washington from 7/20 to 7/22. If not, then I guess I will travel to Camden, #4 on the murder capital of the United States list. https://www.neighborhoodscout.com/blog/top100dangerous
  16. At a certain point... trying to preserve what was never intended to be preserved becomes a bit cost prohibitive if not a bit nuts. I have news for everyone. Your copy of Avengers will outlast you in that current bag and board you have it in.
  17. Not only was it the collector's chrome edition but it had a CVA sticker on it.
  18. It's not a best offer though. If it was a best offer you would be correct. However, these prices reflect what was actually paid out to the seller. GPA does not trace discounts due to coupon codes or eBay bucks or Gift Certificates because that is what this 20% off really is. The book I purchased for $240+ shipping is already on the census as having been sold for $300. To be fair, this is what the seller actually received. The seller received $300 for the item. It is eBay that is eating the difference. Here is a screen cap of my new 'Cap'
  19. Just got a $300 for $240... Total came to $249.85 shipped. (Saved $60) This will sound dark... but things are not looking good for Stan Lee these days... I figured I would add another autograph to my collection and I wanted something that was higher grade, a character I liked, and something he wrote along with a decent signature and placement. This was the best I could come up with.
  20. Post a pic of the hula hoop girl. That usually got things locked.
