I already had a frame ready for my most recent acquisition (John Byrne commission), so I didn't waste any time framing it.

It's in the additional images. Just added it a couple of hours ago.

Hello All,
I didn't even know this thread existed until today! Had I known I would have been posted my commissions!
I see some very nice commissioned artwork here and would like to show the few I have with several more to come! Stay tuned!
Those are all really great pieces. Most commissions nowadays have really been just sketches or single character pieces or something without backgrounds.
It is refreshing to still be seeing fully-rendered cover-quality commissions like the ones you have just posted. Those are truly awesome! Wow!
-
Yes, I am loving that Perez cover! What a great catch!
-
This is not a new acquisition but just an "update". I just found out that the Curt Swan Superman piece I own came from a comic which actress Brooke Shields was reading. I came across the photo and added it in the "additional images" section:
http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=885218
I thought it was pretty cool and just felt like sharing.

I posted this in another thread but it might be buried there and it also seems more relevant for this thread so I hope you can forgive me for this repost:
------------------
Let me share my first-hand story about "that feeling I got."
In April 2012 was around a time I was just getting in comic art collecting. I saw this auction on eBay and just like with every auction, I always save the image to so I can scrutinize it more thoroughly and zoom in using different Photoshop filters to really appreciate the art. So this was the cover I was chasing AS POSTED ON EBAY.
I was the underbidder in this auction and the piece went for just over $800, which is fair. Even though it was a published cover, it was a recreation of a Sekowsky image from that era, and had no backgrounds and a lot of whiteout below Batman's feet.
I finally saw it in the Cool Lines site, and it was "modified". I think it is still there now. Here is how it looks now:
It seems like they added the backgrounds manually (check how bad the circle in the background looks) when there really was supposed to be no backgrounds because it was done digitally. Even the logo was "pasted on" to the board.
So the page does not resemble anything close to the original page offered in the eBay auction anymore.
As for the clincher? In April 2012, it went for $800. In January 2014, Cool Lines email that it is $5,450 but on sale now for $4,450!!!
So to those who say you can expect it advertised for 3x the price after you are the underbidder, then you are wrong! It will be 5x the price and significantly altered!
Buyer Beware!

Not a really major update but just adding these to make sure all of the art I have is documented but there aren't really major pages. Click on the link to view them on bigger size in CAF:

I have posted this in another thread, but I haven't here yet. So I will just share again here for the completion's sake. Besides the art arrived less than a week ago:

Great room Congratulations. Do you have a wider shot showing everything together?
Here you go, going clockwise:
There you go. It's actually a 360 degree view and this area is actually my bedroom. If you look at one of the pics there are two blank spaces above one of the doors. I have two pieces coming in, hopefully this week. And I have the frames ready so I just have to do it myself and I will be posting an update soon.
-
I couldn't make out the bottom right cover so I checked your CAF and it's Bolland Camelot 3000! Wow!
I don't mean to offend you but pic quality isn't too good. Would love to see more high res-pics of your collection. I also see that you have a Crisis cover. I'd love to see a pic of that framed.
I think you can tell from my collection that I'm more of a DC guy and not Marvel so I'd love to see more of your DC stuff!

I just upgraded all my framed art to non-glare glass. It was a chore because I manually did it myself - didn't trust having them all out of my possession at once.
These are night shots so quality is not good. If you want better quality check my CAF page here: http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryDetail.asp?GCat=66134
I'd also accept suggestions on how to arrange or order them. I will label pics clockwise starting from upper left.
Action 595 Byrne Splash, Garcia-Lopez Style Guide Cover 94, Swan Superman Splash, Schaffenberger World of Krypton opening splash
Malang Filipino strip art, Tony Velasquez Kengkoy Filipino Strip art circa 1937, Dan Decarlo Jughead Cover, Mandrake DC Retroactive Batman Cover, Byrne MTU 62 Commission, Rubinstein Flash 254 Recreation, Wagner Batman 639 cover, Aragones Groo Frontispiece, Aragones Rufferto Back Cover, Nestor Redondo Filipino Comics
Mandrake, Byrne, Andru/Byrne Action 599, Swanderson Superman Annual, Byrne Man of Steel, Rubinstein, Wagner
Another view, not sure why I took so many pictures. If you see light, that is unavoidable because it's night and of the angle. But at least I don't see reflections anymore. This glass is really good.
Kirby Superpowers Final Page Large Size
The highest part of my room because without them our hobby would not be possible - signatures of Siegel, Shuster, Bob Kane in one page - also has Jerry Robinson, Joe Kubert, Jerry DeFuccio and Jerry Robinson
Signatures above door, Kane Action 45th Anniversary Cover, Neal Adams Batman Illustrated Splash, Mike Decarlo Legion 38 commission, Rubinstein X-Men Commission, Perez Infinite Crisis 7 Cover, Ordway Man of Steel TPB Cover
There you go -- hope you enjoyed and let me know if you want a closeup of anything here but you can probably find it in my CAF page anyway.
One more corner in the room I forgot to take a picture of! These are the oversized frames:
The DC Comics Guide To Digitally Drawing Comics by Freddie Williams, JLA 147 Cover Reimagination by original series inker Frank McLaughlin
Since it was a process drawing, Freddie did the pencils and inks on separate board. He also sent me the file with digital colors - the problem being I could only fit his art in an old frame of mine that used to house a double page splash that I have since moved. Maybe someday I will make a new frame with the two original pieces and the print with the digital colors - all in the same size. We will see about that.
The Batman painting, with Bats in front of a gravestone, is really good. (thumbs uThank you and one of my favorites here for sure.

Great collection and well worth the time and effort to have them up and displayed like that. You must ge a lot more enjoyment out of them rather than having them sat in portfolios.
That is the point - I'm trying not to have stuff in my portfolio although I have a few. I'm trying to dispose of my non vital art and keep the frameworthy ones. Slowly evolving my collecting habits to "go for gold". Thanks for the kind comments.

Also... I wouldn't mind knowing if this exists, even if I can't afford to own it myself. Just the fact that someone has it would be interesting to me.
It exists in a private collection and has been off the market for a long time...I wouldn't expect it for sale or posted on CAF anytime soon.Classic, I can't blame you, I can only dream of owning this too!I heard that page was stashed away as well. I was looking for it to go with the splash page that I have from the same comic:
I thought of resurrecting this thread since the comments above are what inspired me to re-create that iconic cover in 11x17 board. I guess the original is not coming out of the private collection anytime soon, but this substitute will have to do for my own enjoyment and satisfaction.

Since this thread is "this week in my original art collection" and not necessarily new art, let me post some art I got which I just added stats to this week.
These are Do-It-Yourself stats which I printed and pasted on acetate which I layered between the matte and the art.
You can click on the link below the title and before the photo - if you want to see what the art looks like without the stats.
Flash 254 Cover Recreation by Joe Rubenstein after Dillin

Superman Man of Steel TPB Vol. 3 Cover by Jerry Ordway:
http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=892291
I added stats on the Superman cover because of this thread in this forum:
http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=7120730#Post7120730
Someone told me that "a cover without logos can easily be mistaken for a commission."
I have no regrets adding those stats, especially on the Superman piece. It really makes Superman stand out more as opposed to just blending in with the rocks.

Great story.Everybody happy in the end.And a great piece! While I'm not new to collecting Original Art, been buying published art since 1993 (sketches back to the 80's), I'm quite new to this board. This past year and a half has been slow on acquisitions as much that I'm interested is now getting into the five figures range and I also had been busy with life issues. While I rarely buy commissions, but might start more in the future, my most recent acquisition, which is a commission, I got in trade from comic book writer/New York Times Best Selling Author, Brad Meltzer. In October 2012 Brad contacted me through CAF asking me if I was willing to sell or trade a splash page I had from issue #16 with Ollie and Roy in costumes leaping into action (see additional image), with a billboard in the background that asks "Trust your Friends?", which was Brad's motto from his first novel. Turns out he didn't put it in his -script but editor Bob Schreck had it added. Brad had been searching for the page for a long time as I guess I was quicker than he was when the page was first available from the artists. I didn't want to sell it but asked if he could get Phil and Ande to do a commission of the "Green Arrow Family" that I would trade it.
I rarely ever do commissions anymore and when I have I've had great results being patient as both Alex Ross and Dave Gibbons each had my sketchbook for about a year. This piece arrived earlier this month but have only now had the time to post it.

My latest addition is not quite comic art but is the closest thing to a "jam" as I can get that features Superman and Batman's creators.
To have Siegel, Shuster, and Bob Kane write on the same page is a thing to marvel at (no pun intended). And having Julius Schwartz, Joe Kubert, Jerry Robinson, and Jerry DeFuccio in it would be just icing on the cake!
-
I started in the hobby out of nostalgia. I went with this interior page from Action 599, a comic I bought as a kid in my first ever vacation outside my country.
It is Ross Andru pencils and John Byrne inks. Looking back, it is not the best page but it is the one that started it all. Now I have a lot of pages.

Click on the image above to be directed to my CAF page, and feel free to comment as this page was acquired before commenting was the norm. As a matter of fact, the comments there seem to be a back and forth between me and Gal Schwartz - who is a member here and has become a friend and someone who has advised me many times about this hobby when I was started.

DC's Super Powers toyline was a comic I read and a toy I played with as a kid. So I bought an interior page from that issue. Then I saw on CAF the *last* page of that same issue. I commented and joked to the owner (since I was sure it was a grail) that if he was willing to let it go, I would be interested. It was a longshot and just a lukewarm offer since I already had a nice example interior page from that issue.
Lo and behold, the owner eventually remembered my comment, sent me a private message that he was selling it. I was jumping for joy! It was my personal grail - pure Kirby pencils, Kirby's last sequential page ever drawn for DC, and features ALL of the Super Powers good guys from the toyline. I could not believe it was available. I am still in shock I own this page! Here it is:
http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=981327
And since I already own that, just in case, I might be willing to put my other Kirby interior page in the trading block if anyone is interested. Here it is:

Looks like this thread has not been updated for 2013. Here is a nice bump up with my latest acquisition - a Kirby piece no less!

Even though I also do my own digital coloring, it is always a treat to see how other artists do it - especially if they are pros.
Chris Ivy recently colored this piece which I pencilled and Mike DeCarlo inked. It is my vision of what ought to have been the cover to Legion of Super-Heroes 38 back in 1987 which was the Death of Superboy.
Since I already have published the inked art in my CAF page, I just updated the additional images to include the colored art. Once again, thanks to Chris Ivy for this commission!
Click on the photo to go to the CAF page and see the rest of the process.

Does anyone know where the cover to Batman 232 is?
