The seller only (in the listing) was charging $6 shipping for priority. That tells me Envelope. Now he could have done a good job, but if I wanted a box, and bought in a $6 shipping thread, I would have asked for an upgrade to a box. Did you ask him for a box? I've sent some lowish $ books in envelopes, and they get there fine (we're talking books that were like $20). The problem with that packing is he didnt use good thick cardboard (with alternating corrugation patterns so they all don't bend the same way) to sandwich the book safely.

One major correct in your post from above: the never to be released Pedigree book shows about 70 identified from '44, 10 from '43 and '15 from 45. Unfortunately, the Pedigree book that everybody has been waiting for will never see the light of day. well then I dont feel bad about occasionally leaking info from the Okajima chapter!

I dont think Alan was actually one of the purchasers (he's on here and can correct me if Im mistaken) There were three purchasers (or it's assumed that way), one of the three wasnt a GA collector and soon contacted Alan Barr and sold his part of the purchase to Alan. Alan ended up with 358 comics. So assuming the original purchaser didnt sell any other books before the deal with Alan then we're looking at a collection of between 1000 and 1200 books. I dont know if Alan has ever mentioned the seller whom he bought the collection from by name. There are some big chunks of the collection that have never surfaced, so it makes me think that at least one of the other two buyers might be sitting on the collection privately. Also I think the '44 Okajimas are so recognizable, many of them are staying raw because their pedigree is not in need of validation since the markings are so obvious, another reason they never surface.

What is the approximate time period that we are talking about with regards to the Okajima camp books portion of the collection? See my above post. We're looking at the '44 books with the marking similar to the Crack Comics book I posted.

Total pedigree is estimated at 1000-1200 spread from 43' to 55. the yet to be released Pedigree book shows about 70 identified from '44, 10 from '43 and '15 from 45. If we use "2I" as the consistent starting point of the code there are 35 gaps in the code that mean there is at least 1 comics from that purchase date (upping our total to 79). But she occasionally bought two, or even three books, so the number could be over 100 total. That would cover the core time of the consistent "camp coding" which ran from Feb '44 to September '44. Before the Feb 44 books coding is spotty, and irregular, and there are very few books from pre 2/1944. After September of '44 again coding become varied (sometimes a purchase date, sometimes a signature, sometimes a code). Again, all conjecture. I'll do a better, more awake comparison between the pedigree book list (which is largely from Alan's list and some other sources) and my list and see if there are any other gaps I can fill.

I remember hearing that when the Ojakimas came to the market it was in the midst of a bit of a backlash against pedigrees (against them having more value than non-pedigrees), thus when you look at Alan's certificates that came with his 1/3 of the collection he was selling the word "pedigree" does not appear.

Am I missing something here as this appears to be an absolutely astronomical price to to be paying for a mid-grade mid-run non-key book with a long forgotten GA lead character? I could see the Church copy going for that kind of money since it should be high grade as Chuck had it listed as a NM+ in his Mile High catalogue. Actually, the Overstreet value for a F/VF is only $107 since the VF pricing for issue #33 is set at the $142 price. Maybe somebody should tell Heritage. In the last three years we've seen the camp era Okajima books sell for a premium over other copies, starting with the Boy Comics #16 that sold for $1150, about 5x guide or previous sales. The Okajima pedigree story might be the best pedigree story, and the books from the year(s?) she spent in the internment camp are the centerpiece to the story. Thus the premium... ANY book coming up from this pedigree from '44 is seeing multiple multipliers in their final sale price

this lovely raw copy was auctioned last night on Heritage HA had it as FN/VF (Overstreet value $142). Comp sale would be the Church copy which has changed hands twice since 2013 for an average of about $850. Last nights hammer for the Okajima? $896. From '44 and part of the "camp era" part of the collection it is coded 2M, and has the unusual distinction of being purchased on leap year 2-29-44 I was thinking $400-500... way off.

yep. the problem is their "brand recognition" is equally as bad as it is recognizable.

believe that was me, and what I think I said (and definitely meant) was that some mystery box threads are set up so the seller COULD favor one buyer over another. I was also alluding to the old ebay scam of Selling 10 envelope chancess, 9 junk, one gets a NM98 and lo and behold the person who "gets" the NM98 is the sellers friend, and there either never was a NM98, or it never actually changed hands (just a way to bilk 9 other people out of money with the promise of a chance at a good book). again not saying that happened here, just that SOME mystery threads are set up so that it COULD occur if the seller was unscrupulous.

1. it's all a moot point because mystery boxes are no longer allowed. 2. If someone promised a mystery box with a value of $500 and you got a mystery box full of german newpaper, it certainly would be probation worthy especially if the seller stated the box value in the terms of the transactions. Closest I got to a mystery box burn was I bought a TPB mystery box for like $50 with a stated value of at least double that. What I got was 10 TPBs ( a few of which were really just square bound 80 pagers) and 1 HC (all of which could be found in any of 100 differet $5 TPB boxes. But their retail stated value was over $150. Lesson learned. Worst case I broke even or so, but had some iffy reads for a few days of stuff I never would have bought for myself.
