  1. I was looking at some other threads, and this thread must be the fastest growing thread in the history of these boards. Good job Showcase-4!
  2. Well, I haven't put on any dresses.....but I've sure removed more than my fair share. Now that I've got that piece of idiotic bragging out of the way.... Tec 27, but I would also have to sell it, it's just too much book for me to hold on to.
  3. I was thinking the same thing about it being pressed. I think 50 years from now that Batman 1 will still be historically significant, but I'm not sure if the FF1 will mean as much except to collectors. I thing AF15 is the only silver Marvel that can compete with Batman and Superman Keys. This is just my thoughts on it.
  4. Wow, great work! Thank's. That's something you don't see every day.
  5. Boy that is a tough choice, but I'd go for neither. If it was the Black Canary cover, maybe.
  6. Wow, I've never seen that one. 1940 was my favorite year for GA comics, the creative process along with the business angle seemed to be at their peak. Most of my favorite books are from that year. 1941 is my second favorite, of course.
  7. I will echo this choice, although it was a tough one because of the Detective 1 and having a vivid memory of that book in a display case at Cherokee book store when I was kid. On second thought, I'll switch to the detective 1.
  8. I am now officially a Tarpe Mills fan....don't know if I can afford to be a collector.
  9. I'm ashamed to say that I'd go for the GGA, even if the other cover is a great war cover. Had the Red Dragon been a more mainstream book like Silver Streak or Daredevil. I would have chosen it.
  10. So how long have you been hanging out with that big shot comic book dealer?
  11. Shows you how observant I am . Thank's for the info.
  12. I wonder if anyone feels the same way as I do about this. I find myself looking more and more for GA that has never been reprinted. There's something about reading a comics stories, particulary if you're one of the few to read them, that's appealing to me. That's also why a lot of silver age doesn't appeal to me anymore. I want to read something that I've never seen before. Now I'm sure someones about to tell me that the Tec 1 has been reprinted. Now the one flaw here, is that the DC archives only reprint the featured hero, so there would still be a lot of good reading in those books. Just a stray thought here.
  13. Tec 1, FF1 is common and I'd love to read the stories in Tec 1. There's no way I could pass on that book if I were in the position to buy it, especially with off-white pages.
  14. FF, but it would burn me because that's another book I bought off the stands, kept for the longest time, then foolishly sold. You know, back then I would look for the books that hadn't been on the outside of the bundles and damaged by the string or wire that held the bundles together. I always chose the best copies. Such a far cry from what I have to settle for now. I know, I'm sounding like a geezer. Did I also mention that I had to walk five miles through the snow to cherry pick the besy(best) copies off the rack?
  15. Very cool indeed. I love being able to see things I normally would not be able to see.
  16. That book crosses the line from comic to art.
  17. I know I have a "Wilbert" book, I can't just remember which one it is. I'll try to find it one of these days.
  18. I think people try to push the hypodermic aspect of 35, but since we're not sheep we choose the 31. The only real factor in the choice is the PQ or whether you need to fill a hole. But there's no doubt in my mind that 31 is a superior if not iconic cover.
  19. This just shows you what a stand up guy Steve is. It takes a class act in my book to admit an error especially in an age where that's just not done.I personally think Steve has the stronger case in this whole debate and I would trust him to do the right thing in any situation, because I believe hin to be an honorable man, a rarity in this day and age and especially in certain segments of this hobby.
  20. I don't blame him for not showing it or scanning it. Can you imagine how many times he's been asked? I don't even like to scan my books for fear of fading the cover. Rational or irrational. I get nervous when people want interior shots because of stress put on the spine. One slip, one drop, one sneeze, one bend, one tear. I'd take a digital camera shot of the cover for insurance purposes, monitor the environment it's in and build up the suspense, cause if it has degraded to a vf+ or so, the value will plummet, better to keep everybody guessing. I absolutely don't blame him for not showing it. Personally, I don't care, I'm sure it looks like all the others.
  21. Great one Showcase!! I will go with the Marvel #9, it is very key, high grade and simply wonderful. The More Fun was once owned by a hoser, so it is tainted in my mind.... Are you calling Larson a hoser?
  22. Absolutely agree. Jon is first-class and first-rate. And this actually bolsters my comments 100%. You will rarely find Jon posting in the General section for the very reasons that I and several others have written above. He will post in the GA section without hesitation. That is an uncontrovertible fact and tells the story. I guess that there are many of us and I include myself, who should be asking "What the heck are we doing over here?" I'm back to the GA section where there's more scans and discussions of my favorite subjects....GA.
