  1. It's so cool to look at that and then go back and look at say the cover of Hangman #3. I Love Lucey!
  2. That's one of my favorite Wilbur covers, 28 is another.
  3. I can't believe I haven't looked at this thread before, what a great service! Scrooge must be congratulated for doing such good work!
  4. As far as the accuracy of the Journals, they are pretty much obsolete now. So many books have come out of the woodwork because of ebay and other internet sources. The Journal still may be close on some of the big ticket items like Action 1 and Detective 27 and such, but otherwise it's just gathering dust in my home now. Even for looking at covers, it's much easier to go on heritage and look through their scans or other sites that show the gerber no shows. They were great in their time but now it's difficult to even give them away.
  5. This is the 1st Nazi war cover , one month before MM4 think Ed Ashe did it.
  6. This is the 1st Nazi war cover , one month before MM4
  7. Every panel a little masterpiece. If I had to pick the comics that made me start to think that comic books were really an art form, it would be Bark's ducks.
  8. I love your passion for Archie! Do you collect the rest of the MLJ titles?
  9. I'm an MLJ collector, but I have to say that pound for pound, those early Timely's were the best superhero war covers going!
  10. I think Ian's collection consist of DC's that were originally for sale, the Double Action 1 wasn't. Any thing else that Ian has in his collection that wasn't offered up for sale is simply gravy on top of his amazing and complete DC collection. I think it's a tremendous feat.
  11. Such a glassic 50's cover. One of the best!
  12. I have a harder time believing that it's by Montana than by Novick, but I don't think it's obviously either I agree, it almost looks like two artist did the cover, one did the background and another for the main action. Steel Sterling looks like Novick's work, but could also be King.
  13. You know, I'm still not sure who did that cover for Jackpot 6. It's been attributed to Novick at one time and to Montana at another time. What do you think?
  14. To me that cover says it all! That's why I love golden age so much!
  15. always liked this cover a lot since my wife and I love to garden.
  16. That was a very touching gesture on your part and one of the more human thing's about comic collecting that I've heard in a long time. Even though it was connected with such a sad occasion, it is nice to hear about something other than the finacial and superficial aspects of collecting. I bet your mom's up above reading that copy right now.
  17. Several years ago Comiclink had two Pep 22's in around vg for 2200.00 each if I remember correctly. They were up for a while but I was such a short sighted cheapskate that I couldn't pull the trigger. About a year before that I had the chance to buy Archie 1-10 all in g to vg condition, the 1 being in g, for a grand, and I said I'd call back tomorrow... and they were gone. On the other hand, I bought an Archie 3 from an antique dealer who said it was in"good shape" for 199.00 and it ended up being a vf to nm with white pages. Doesn't make up for the other boneheaded mistakes, though.I sold the A3 for a huge amount of money, enough to have bought both Peps and half the Archies. But I'm still a great big stupid head for not jumping on those babies.
  18. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6550353080&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 Check this book out and read the desription about the cocaine story.
  19. As great and prolific a cover artist that he was, I think his less cluttered covers were the best. Like Suspense 3, if you can call that less cluttered. You have a point of immediated focus and then secondary ponts of focus.I'm no expert by the way, there are just a lot of his covers that don't have that type of simple yet powerful impact.
