  1. Thanks all! I guess I'm now asking process questions ... Once i have a story & an artist -- do you: (#1.) make just a few sample pages to 'shop around' or put on Kickstarter (#2) or do you aim to make the entire first issue ...
  2. Good day, all. I finished what I think is a really engaging comic -script. Then I shopped it around to a few comic book publishers just to find out that almost none of them hire writers without seeing professional samples (finished comics). So I think I have a few options: (#1.) Pay to have the comic made independently on my own dime; but I'd need to hire an artist, inker, letter'er, etc. -- but at least the comic would be 100% mine (right?) with no further compensation needed if it gets optioned or re-solicited for something else ... (#2.) Pay for a 'few' pages to be made, then re-shop it around to publishers; but then i would be a 'partner' with that artist going forward (right?) The business-end of this process is new to me. How do you get a comic made if you're a new writer? THANKS!
  3. Short & sweet. TONS of great Cosplay. I won't clog up this post with pics. You can see them on my twitter @sketchcards ... This will just be about the comics side of the equation. Now, let's see if PhotoBucket still works for me ... The Stan Lee booth was nuts. They had every conceivable product to get signed. They even had a short box with 150 pre-signed comic books in case you didn't want to wait in line. I asked the staff what is the LEAST amount of time I'll wait in line if i time it just right, he said "30 minutes". Bagley is now charging to sign Lethal Protector, ASM 361, or CGC books -- Peter David was the all-star. He's a great guy, with great conversation. This time he had a stack of original art. I said: "You don't usually have original art, do you?" He said: "This is the first convention ever, make an offer." Every page of "Sachs and Violens" was signed by artist George Perez. I also picked up this from Georges Jeanty. Fun composition. Now i need to figure out who the characters are ... And lastly, you're wondering what i bought from Peter David ... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . -- Fun Show -- I hope Photobucket works ...
  4. Short Version. Feel free to ask Questions. Fabian was charging for Deadpool-related books, but not for Batman related-books, score. Curse Words guys had ALL the variants with them, but wanted $40 for Glitter-Cat Baby Teeth 'HeroesCon variant' was only available at the Heroes Booth, but the Aftershock book had another 10 variants to choose from: Here's a pic of the 'Heroes Booth' & Brian Stelfreeze sketch'ing away Jusko on Top. Dodson on Bottom. Dodson had a healthy line ALL weekend (his 1st HeroesCon). Image & Skybound had a booth. ... All in all ... an excellent show, Wish i took more pictures. If you've been going for 10+ years, you start to notice that the show floor has gotten larger (more booths/tables), and deals have gotten fewer (more competition). And top tier artists have been getting $1-5 per auto, so fewer people are bringing BIG stacks to get signed (which is fine). I'll be posting a few pickups on Twitter @sketchcards -- Whoot!
  5. Didn't "FABLES" cover artist James Jean become a 'fine artist'?
  6. Whats the going price for 'drek'? If i find a longbox of junk books on craigslist, but want to buy just for the fun of sorting & digging ... What's the going price on a longbox of probable garbage? I assume 200 books at $0.15 each = ask to buy for $30-40 per box?
  7. Great stuff, y'all. I picked up a small: F.R.Gruger Then figured out the signature is 'rubber stamped' -- but the pencils are real. Must have been a dismantled 'personal sketchbook' cause other pages were also for sale with a rubber stamp. FYI: Gruger worked with many publishers during his forty-year career, but he is most closely identified with The Saturday Evening Post. Gruger was inducted into the Society of Illustrators' Hall of Fame in 1981.
  8. Comic 'Subscription' books -- Found these at a local ComicCon -- bought all of them. None are keys. Mainly Fantastic Four, a Hulk 400, a couple Web of SpiderMan; all sealed (never read). Do these have any value-added premium?
  9. Is there a 'member thank you' thread? Attended the 2nd annual Dalton Georgia ComicCon. Was shopping at these booths: Found a comic that made me happy 'cause it reminded me of everything 1990's: love the 'screwdown' by Wizard. Then found out the booth was operated by JUSTIN on these boards. He sold it to me for nothing. Thanks, dude!
  10. Can you store the best 10% off-site, & have an estate sale with the rest? People often overpay FMV because they 'think' they found a goldmine.
  11. Very very pleased to receive mine back this week. (Inscribed to me & my son who wrote together to Thank him). IMO, he has a secretary write the letter, & he simply signs. Very pleased. part of the P.C.
  12. I think Green Lanterns 9 & 10 have legs with this new 'Phantom Lantern' thing happening.

  14. Tangent conversation; I mainly collect sketch cards (original art inserted into trading card packs). Quantity-wise, i have to be one of the top-10 hoarders and have collected every day since 1998. I've also been one of the top-10 sharers of information & scans. I know for a fact there are some buyers that have amassed massive collections, and not shared the first scan, or social media post. Cards from 1997-2000 are almost never seen anymore (much less 'for sale'). Somewhere there massive collections to unearth. Did these collectors just box them up, forget about them, and put them into storage?
  15. In 1989, my side of Jacksonville Florida offered you XENO's comics, or 'Big Bobs'.
  16. I cant decide. I cant decide. I'm going for the middle: (50). Thank you.
  17. My stack is bigger than your stack. I might got y'all both beat. #NotProud
  18. Today is Jack Kirby's 99th birthday. The twitterverse is full of tribute art & Hero Initiative donations.
  19. You got Sergio Aragones on the right hand side, nice! Blow it up & i bet we can name the rest.
