  1. If you are planning on or trying to register books that were submitted at Philadelphia Comic-Con please read this note. Whenever CGC offers On-Site grading at a show, the books are not "shipped" out of the system until about a week after the convention ends. This is so that we can ensure that all comics were picked up properly and any remaining orders can be shipped to the submitters. If you try to register any comics from On-Site during this time you will receive the message that "The certification number you specified was not found in our cert database." This will be resolved as soon as the books can be "shipped" out of the system. Thank you for your patience and understanding with this process. If you have any additional questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  2. Please visit their website for more information: www.nycomics.us Baltimore Con Submission Form
  3. You could either submit it for a reholder or leave it as is. Since it is not harmful and is a natural side-effect of the two plastics coming into contact it will not harm your comic in any way.
  4. You do not need to pack your comics in any way as CGC will want to inspect them against the invoice prior to packaging them for shipment.
  5. (thumbs u Read most of the stories in middle/high school for fun (or book reports for my dad)...may have to re-read them soon, though
  6. Started & finished The Difference Engine by Gibson & Sterling over the weekend (in transit reading), now reading Survivor by Palahniuk.
  7. We don't offer any bulk grading discounts for On-Site grading events. We generally don't offer prescreen services at on-site grading events but may accept them with the understanding that they are our last priority and will likely be sent to the office for grading anyway.
  8. Here is any information I could find that may be of assistance: Y-38 form information Also this document explains several reasons for using that form: Appendix C of this document has an example of Y-38
  9. I am not on Swap.com but am on PaperBackSwap.com. I just looked up Swap.com and ... yuck ... you have to be paired to swap? On PaperBackSwap.com, once you mail something away, you earn credit and then can redeem with anyone which is a heck of a lot better ... and no fee to the site either. What was the format change that you didn't like? Cryptonomicon was a one heck of a read but I couldn't get into his Baroque cycle  Originally it was completely free and there were no regulations other than make sure you send the book in a timely fashion and then give feedback. Now they charge a fee per swap plus they now require tracking or possible retribution from swapper and site which tries to make the members use their site-generated shipping labels, which miscalculate shipping costs and incurr a monthly service fee I'm going to check out paperbackswap, thanks! Yeah, couldn't get into Baroque the first time I picked it up...but the same was true for Cryptonomicon and I love it so far (about a chapter or so to go...)!
  10. It's on the shelf along with a bunch of Palahniuk, too Similar to the story above...I keep buying Snow Crash and lending it out (never to be returned)...I still lend though (I should learn)
  11. Finishing Cryptonomicon by Neil Stephenson (finally...) and slowly going through The Brewmaster's Table by Garrett Oliver. Up next I have Brewing Up a Business by Sam Calgione (plus an entire shelf more...I was hooked on swap.com before they changed the format... )

    Reholder Fee

If a comic is sent in for ReHoldering and damage is discovered inside the case the submitter would be contacted and the book would be regraded. Graded comics can still become damaged from mishandling and should be treated/shipped with care similar to ungraded comics.
  13. Currently the maximum thickness is 3/4" for any items to be graded/encapsulated.

    Reholder Fee

Yes, you would need to write in "Review" in the "Other" field on the PDF or paper submission form. If you are using the step-by-step online form you just want to pick the tier that would be appropriate for the value of your comic and then write Review on the invoice near the Service Type. All of our services are based on value, so you want to use the "Maximum Value" column on the site to determine which tier is appropriate. Reviews do not have a specified turnaround time, so the turnaround is not applicable. If you supply a credit card, which is preferred, CGC will assess the fee once the review has been performed. In some cases there is no change to the comic and the charge would just be for a ReHolder, so it is easiest if you provide this method of payment.
  15. At this time the pricing for on-site grading is as follows: * Modern (Comics 1980-present valued $200 or less) - $24 * Economy (Comics valued $300 or less) - $45 * Standard (Comics valued $1,000 or less) - $75 * Express (Comics valued $3,000 or less) - $125 * WalkThru (Comics any value) – min $150 max $1,500 2.5% FMV The books are guaranteed to be completed by the end of the convention.
  16. If you are planning on or trying to register books that were submitted at Chicago Comic-Con please read this note. 17. Yes, when we are grading on-site the fees are higher as the books are guaranteed by the end of the convention.

    Reholder Fee

That is correct! The grade would not go down unless the comic had been damaged within the case (i.e. - if the case were dropped but not broken).

    Reholder Fee

You would submit the book for a "Review" and specify what the book is being reviewed for (grade, page quality, pedigree, etc.). This service is normally charged as one tier below the declared value of the book.
  20. CGC can grade the soft cover editions of these comics, but not the hard cover editions.
  21. CGC does not grade any hardcover comics or hardcover trades.
  22. The tier pricing is the same for regular turnaround (not on-site) grading tiers at a convention. You would be saving on the cost of insuring and shipping the books to our facility, all other charges would be the same.

    Reholder Fee

CGC will typically print a new label, especially if the comic has an older-style label when submitted for reholder.
