I think I like the idea of the SDCC variant better than the execution.  Still wouldn't mind getting a copy, mind you.

I've changed my mind on this one, by the way.  My objection to the execution was that when I saw the small image, it looked to me like somebody trying desperately to look like Corben... and in my experience, nobody but Corben himself had ever pulled that look off.  Seeing the larger image and realizing that they had actually found a highly suitable Corben image to use at the cover, I find it delightful.  The catch being that only 5 copies of the variant seem to have hit eBay, and the three buy it nows seem to have lasted about 5 minutes each.

It seems like about once a year I do get crazy lucky on my timing, and this was one of them, at least.  The two that are being auctioned are going for a minimum of at least half again as much as what I paid, and still have a couple days to go.

@Hap Hazard. I'm guessing you got your copy at the panel itself, given the speed with which you showed it.  Did they happen to say what the print run was?

  2. And a couple others.  I may be wrong, but I think this is the only Hagar comic book ever published in the US, as well as Hagar's first appearance in American comics?  The Comics Reading Library has several noteworthy appearances like that throughout its run.  Down to two issues each to go on both Beetle Bailey and the Comics Reading Library:

I just received this jeweler variant today.  It is Action Comics 579.   It was the last jeweler variant that I needed to find in the run of Action Comics after searching for 12+ years.  I was beginning to believe it did not exist.   But I kept looking.   I recently asked a seller of an Action 579 if his copy on ebay was a jeweler variant.  The answer was "no" but he was buying some long boxes that he thought contained jeweler variants, and he would let me know if he found any.  He was disappointed that this Action 579 was the only one he could find.   Me... I was thrilled that he found even one (it has been 3 years since I've been able to find a jeweler variant that I didn't previously think existed).

So now I have found every single jeweler variant that could exist for Superman and Action Comics.   There are 158 of them in Superman and 157 of them in Action Comics.   Now there's only 4 of the possible 890 jeweler variants in the titles of JLA, Batman, Detective, Superman and Action Comics that I haven't been able to find yet (namely, Batman 245 & 390, Detective 470 & 548).  If you find one of those, I sure would like to hear about it on this thread.

So, if that's the last issue with a Jeweler's insert you needed, would you say the issue comes with an Asterix?

    (Sorry, I'll see myself out...)

  4. I actually just realized... the first appearance of two of the three new Hosts is going to be that 1:100 variant, which I find deeply annoying.

And my package from MCS with an actual EC has taken nearly two weeks so far, thanks to what UPS is calling "mechanical delays", which I also find deeply annoying.  I just hope it's OK when it gets here, even if I know MCS will make me whole if it's not.

pretty close if it is a recreation

Actually, I think the chances are good it's a meticulous recreation, looking at it side by side like that.  The aura around the men at the bottom is different, and many lighting highlights aren't quite the same.  The eye beams are different and the metal tube thing to the upper left lacks some detail.    But it's so close as to make one wonder why they needed to bother.

B....soild B...great covers and outstanding printing....as I said on the other thread, give them a chance, especially SC-FI one

I'm looking forward to the SF book, and the one they just announced... Cruel Kingdom... actually sounds pretty incredible to me.  EC style high fantasy seems like a solid idea that we haven't seen before.

Some more High Grade collection goodness... look at your spines... most of 'em don't look like this... Highly unusual to find with no edgewear

I might be able to find 11 D-series spines in my collection that look like that to create a similar photo... but I've got 162 D-series doubles in my collection at last count, so I could pick and choose quite a bit.

Do you have a 1930's pulp printed in the UK that you can highlight? If you have a UK version of Astounding Stories it should have "Atlas Publishing & Distributing Co Ltd" somewhere in the indicia.

Found it, and the indicia is conveniently on the back cover, actually.  I think I've see it claimed that the UK cover is actually a recreation of the US cover, but I can't remember where I saw that.  It looks incredibly close to me from pictures online but I don't have the US version.  UK version is MUCH shorter than the US inside, 96 pages and only four stories.

    3) Lee Bermejo gold foil cover

    4) Andrea Sorrentino silver foil cover

    5) Blank cover

    6) 1:10 Jay Stephens homage variant

    7) 1:20 Andrea Sorrentino B&W variant

    8) 1:50 Rian Hughes Archive Edition variant

    9) 1:100 Dustin Weaver "hosts" variant

    Exclusive editions:

    10) Tony Moore variant- print run ?

    11) Vanessa Del Rey variant- print run 1000

    12) Naomi Franquiz variant (color)- print run 500

    13) Naomi Franquiz variant (B&W)- print run 300

    14) Matt Kindt variant (connecting cover w/ Cruel Universe 1 variant)- print run 1000

    15) Dani Strips variant- print run 1000

    16) Robert Hack variant- print run 750

    17) Richard Corben variant- print run ?

Anybody know of any I missed?  Or the print runs on the Tony Moore or Richard Corben variants?

I have ONE that's either 1939 or 1940, let me see if I can find it.
