  1. If I recall correctly, it's only a few issues later that he shows up on the fan page as well.
  2. Isfdb credits the #3 to Hannes Bok. Which I can see as possible. I’m working on the run, may get one next paycheck.
  3. Here's one I got last month that you don't see that often. I've actually got several of the Canadian Warren v*******, but the lone Harris magazine issue is the only one that's copper, not bronze.
  4. Today's books. 19, 108, and the Special to go. And right now I don't have any of the missing issues on order, but we'll see what happens after payday.
  5. I would love to see a Cody Starbuck collection; supposedly there's at least one story that was never published in the US.
  6. Here's one more. I suppose it's more accurate to call most of the Tom Strong covers evocative of earlier works, rather than direct homages. Similar to the Promethea covers, where pretty much every issue was in the style of a specific artist but not necessarily a specific cover. Also, I love the Don Rosa prints.
  7. I have all the pre-war Heinlein pulps, although some are pretty beat up. Classic stuff.
  8. I’ll see if I can find further references when I get home and can look stuff up.
  9. Agreed, but with the green spotlight, the skeletal hand, and the general painted style, I still think it was in the mix somewhere. Also, it's well known in a way the Wow is not, and a lot of the Tom Strong covers are riffs on famous pieces.
  10. I have nothing to contribute at this point but want everyone who is to know I'm loving the discussion. Thank you all.
  11. Creepy 5 thoughts: A moody cover by Frazetta, although a bit static as well. Neither his best or his worst for Warren, just somewhere in the middle. Loathsome Lore: Nice Torres art on Zombies, although I felt the dig at wild parties in the last panel was a bit odd. Family Reunion: This is not what I remember the few episodes of Bonanza I watched being like. Untimely Tomb: Of course it's untimely, it's much more Vault of Horror or Haunt of Fear than Strange Tales or Journey into Mystery! Seriously, great art from Torres on a first-rate Goodwin -script. Sand Doom: Stunning Williamson art, and Goodwin is getting really good at this point, even if this is a bit more of a traditional twist. The Judge's House: Crandall and Goodwin adapt a lesser known (at least, I had never heard of it) Bram Stoker story. It's a good choice that fits in quite well. Grave Undertaking: Alex Toth joins the Warren crew. I believe he has the distinction of the longest run of any creator on the Warren books, from Creepy #5 and Blazing Combat #1 to Vampirella #110. (OK, technically the story in Vampi #110 appeared a few months earlier overseas, but it was the first US appearance of the piece.) Toth is an extraordinary artist, and it's great to see another of the EC alumni show up at Warren. He's hard for me to discuss in some ways, though... I get so amazed looking at his design sense it can pull me out of the story. Toth spans the eras at Warren like no other creator, and his work is always a highlight of an issue it appears in. Revenge of the Beast: Morrow, like Toth, is great at drawing for B&W rather than doing art that just happens not to be in color. I would say this is the strongest issue yet, but it will be interesting to see how well things go when they're trying to do three magazines, not one.
  12. Coincidentally, I picked up that two issue run last weekend. I showed them over in the pulp thread, not here, though:
  13. http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pe.cgi?23085 According to the isfdb, that"s exactly what happened. They merged into one title under a new editor and then promptly ended after two issues, despite... or perhaps because... they switched to all new stories.
  14. 2016, I believe. It was a limited set with three figures and new art that came out as an SDCC exclusive from Hasbro, that was never followed up on despite what they said at the time. I found it at a retro store a couple years ago and couldn't resist.
  15. That's horribly depressing news, but thank you for sharing it. A personal favorite of mine, although my box is in storage so I swiped the image online:
  16. You may be right, although what it brought to mind for me was this one:
  17. A couple finds at a local store today. We've already clearly established I'm 100% in the tank on the D-series Aces, and it's the first time I can ever recall seeing one of the Spider books in the wild:
  18. Found a few old Playboys with Little Annie Fanny stories at the local half price books today. Anybody know the artist on this cover? They say the idea for the cover was from Vladimir Nabokov, of all people, but they don't actually name the cover artist:
  19. Impressive indeed. There are 44 copies in that grade or higher on the census, so it's not like it's insanely scarce in that grade. I do wonder what one of the 2 9.6's would do, or what a 9.8 could pull if one ever gets graded.
  20. I actually think the Flash Gordon movie has aged amazingly well... you can level any number of valid criticisms at it, but it's enormously fun and as time passes it's gone from instantly dated to delightfully, joyously retro-futuristic.
  21. And follow it up with what I consider the honorary first Al Williamson Flash: The Outer Space story from Buster Crabbe #5. Sure, they never say "Flash" for legal reasons, but I don't think that matters much to Williamson. They got some other guy to do the cover, but it's still worth showing here. Just the first few pages of the story, I can post the rest if people say they want it.
  22. Let's start with a few issues we haven't seen yet... Part 3 of the Movie Adaptation, the Marvel #2, and the back covers of the Marvel issues:
  23. I’ve got a couple items I’ll post when I get home if nobody beats me to them
