  1. The Modern age will never end. With that said, I think it's time to tighten up some definitions and figure out what and when the age between copper and modern is. I'm curious where you consider the modern age to begin? 1986 (35 years ago) is firmly copper as far as any definition I've ever heard. But it's not as commonly used a term as gold/silver/bronze/modern, so I may be off...
  2. The nick carter character, in various forms, really had a quite astounding shelf life give how little known he is today.
  3. Got this out of a dollar bin a few years ago; it has tape on the spine. My only yearbook, and one of only about 3 issues total I have.
  4. It's slightly more complicated than that, if I recall correctly. https://bleedingcool.com/comics/all-the-copies-of-love-is-love-in-stores-are-second-prints-but-the-first-print-is-still-coming/ The first print had an error on the barcode that required a sticker, so the second print actually made it to the stores first. Up to you to decide which is the preferable copy,,, the first available, or the first physically printed.
  5. Just a general question: Was that all Gaines File Copies, or just the comics? I have an issue of Mad that was sold to me as a GFC by Metropolis that didn't have one.
  6. All three of those are on my want list. Or more accurately, one is on my want list, one is more in the "one of these days I'll find a copy at the right time" category than being aggressively looked for, and one was supposed to show up this weekend but the standard postal mess is delaying it. Great books across the board! (Although "spend a day on the set of SMDM" sounds like somebody soliciting for an obscene act of some sort, now that I think about it...)
  7. So, my next project is finishing Shock Suspenstories... only 5 issues left for my run. After that, I'll probably try to get an issue of Vault so I have at least one; it's the only New Trend title I don't have an issue of. For the purposes of getting at least one issue of each title, I am either saying a) Crypt of Terror/ Tales from the Crypt counts as one title, or b) 3d Tales from the Crypt of Terror counts as close enough. I also don't consider the annuals as New Trend books as such, although wouldn't mind getting at least one as an example. After that, it's start the long haul on Weird Science and Weird Fantasy. But since I'm not planning on trying to put together the Horror or Crime Suspenstories runs, I actually may put together the EC collection I want in the next 4-5 years. How is everybody else doing on their long term goals for EC?
  8. I need to upgrade my #1 as well, but not as badly as you do. I'll admit a big part of why I grabbed the copy when I did was the 2 pairs of glasses. What's up with your copy, anyway? It's liked a stripped logo copy, only in reverse...
  9. It would be an easy enough one to join. Now, semi-serious question: my copy of #1 had two loose pairs of the glasses (glasses only, no arms). Do I keep them both with the #1 or move one to go with the #2?
  10. You don't need to have, I was trying to refer to the hands "popping out" of the book on the cover... and the 3d images in general. But enjoy the book I shall!
  11. One detail I can mention: Monarch books was Charlton's book arm. So, same company. A search on ABEbooks doesn't turn up the 1953 book. It does look like Adelaide wrote a bunch of nurse themed books, though...
  12. Finally, my 150th New Trend/ New Direction EC: Three Dimensional Tales from the Crypt of Terror #2. This is significantly rarer than the #1 (Three Dimensional EC Classics), even if the Census numbers are about equal unslabbed copies are probably outnumbered about 8:1 from what I've seen. Even beyond that, it's rare in the sense it's one of only two New Trend/ New Direction books that have never been reprinted; along with the #1. There are scattered reprints of the stories, I believe, but it's never been reprinted as a single unit or in 3D. This, in addition to being #150 and putting me at just over half the books, gives me my 14th complete New Trend/ New Direction run. So I think it's a nice choice for the milestone. I'm slightly disappointed nobody got the "pop out" clue, though.
  13. I don't use Instagram. I do think we could use a regular daily post of some sort here in the pulp forums. So I say go for it over here as well!
  14. Nope. It's a New Trend book, and I'm not sure what other clue I could give that wouldn't be too obvious. I'm sure if people keep guessing it will pop out at somebody.
  15. In today. Now I just need #8 for the whole run.
  16. My copy of Zatanna #15. Might have been a contender except for... well, you can see:
  17. Will try and dig up some more info, but I've always heard that 50% sell-through was typical on the newsstand. Overprints were always enormous before the direct market.
  18. Nah, I honestly think every hard-core collector should try for ONE complete run going way back, however they choose to define that. A complete run of Uncle Scrooge fits that requirement quite nicely. Mine is Legion of Super Heroes, I've got every issue all the way back to Adventure 247. What I don't always have are variants with the same cover art, although I do have the Whitman variants. I think the Whitman #264 is the single rarest Legion issue. Which ties back to Scrooge... It came out the same time and is rare for the same reason as Uncle Scrooge #179.
  19. It's a relatively rare one. Not necessarily a high demand one, but much harder to find compared to the rest of the run.
