  1. Fresh in today. I am unsurprisingly insanely happy to get this one:
  2. Was just at my local Walmart, looking for these. They had one copy of the Batman issue left, which I grabbed, and nothing else. I also snagged a 3-pack with this, which is labeled "Wal-mart Edition" in the indicia. Anybody know anything about it?
  3. I think it’s a distributor code, but not positive.
  4. I keep thinking the first two Scorpion issues might do something if Marvel ever does something with Dominic Fortune.
  5. Captain Marvel may have been his favorite character, but I believe his favorite comic was Jingle Jangle; for the George Carlson stories.
  6. Nice! I've got a Fox Giant with the guts of the issue, but it is of course missing the cover. As near as I can tell, it's an original story made to look like it's based on a book.
  7. RIP Harlan Ellison. The cover stories are Ellison in all these issues, but not always under his own name:
  8. I've posted this before, not too long ago; but wanted to put it back up today. RIP.
  9. Found in the wild yesterday. Not quite as rare as its reputation suggests, but still not super common. And, of course, pretty much a must have book for historical reasons.
  10. Not exactly pulps, but I think people here would still find them interesting:
  11. Slightly off topic, but I thought people in this thread would appreciate them anyway if they don't go into the Pulp thread:
  12. Discovered this one a bit ago. The small "comics" is my low grade copy, the big "comics" is borrowed from the GCD. The small "comics" seems to be rarer but still a pretty good percentage of the population. (A check of heritage showed 16 copies, 13 big logo and 3 small. I didn't check for the same book selling multiple times, though.) Edit: Guess I already mentioned this back when I found it, but figure adding the images still makes it worthwhile. Sorry about the redundancy.
  13. They had permission/ licensing/ whatever to do the books. Harvey was officially Editor in Chief of the books; both issues featured one classic EC reprint written (and in one case, drawn) by him. The 2nd issue had a story written and rough penciled by Kurtzman; supposedly his last comic story before his death. And of course he did the covers; with Eisner on the 1st issue and Stout on the 2nd. Don Lomax, a fairly obvious choice, did stories in both issues; 2 in the first. Spain Rodriguez had a story in the 1st issue, as well. Otherwise, mostly not creators I recognize. I don't think the books were entirely successful as "new EC's"; but they both definitely have worthwhile stuff in them.
  14. And, to answer my own question, some further searching online suggests the "Field & Scream" parody in #31 was Kurtzman. Which makes sense, since it was Jack Davis's last work for MAD until #99.
  15. I think that was the last Steranko-drawn comic I tracked down. NOT easy to find. Nice pick-up.
  16. Didn't realize there was a 2nd issue of this until a few days ago. Never quite sure how to consider these; on one level I don't think of anything created post 1956 other than MAD to be an EC. But on another level, Two-Fisted Tales edited and written by Harvey Kurtzman surely deserves consideration over pretty much anything else when it comes to being a EC revival. Glad to have them, in any case.
  17. There are three variants of the spring issue, with different text in the banner in the corner. I suspect a fair number of people have all three, reducing the number of copies in circulation.
  18. Beat but complete. I'll happily take it: On a tangent, does anybody know the last issue that was still burning off Kurtzman inventory? I know 29 and 30 definitely had some, but I'm not sure about 31 (or any later issues).
  19. Or it's possible Mickey WAS the original owner; it was either written on the book by the newsstand to hold for them, or they were bought new as gifts.
  20. And a slightly less impulse buy of some late Savage Swords. I'm only trying to put together the Roy Thomas runs, but that's still issues 1-60 and 190-235, so it's close to half the series:
  21. Impulse grab today when I spotted this in the wild, after others showing off the series recently:
  22. And, finally, the pair of books that I was actually mainly grabbing the lot for. v1 n10 and v1 n 11. All 5 of the books have spectacular page quality, by the way. I'm quite happy tonight:
  23. Also from Summer 1942, the Fantastic Adventures quarterly. Burroughs might not be as high demand as he used to be, but it's still always a treat to get a pulp with his work in it:
