  1. Older brother picked it up off a spinner rack for me, guess I was 7yo (last day of school 1st grade). Recently purchased an upgraded copy but will always keep this first copy.
  2. My dream of being a grader in my retirement has been crushed! I guess shipping is a possibility though!
  3. Who would have "Thunk It" Kav likes 'em "Thick And Juicy".....I gotta admit that is the way to go! Thick comics are good too!
  4. Stains are brutal on grades....tear at the staple...as is, 6.5
  5. I have to wonder, e.g., "Bat Girl" 9.2 - many spine ticks was essentially overwritten by nearly "9.8" upper front right corner and bottom right front corner? To me much like the logic associated with stains on a book, seemingly a 9.6 book with a stain can easily become a 8.5 or 9.0 or less. Regardless, as you amplify, inside and outside of the book, you must examine it in it's entirety.
  6. Thanks for the quick response. Honestly, I asked the question because I can't for the life of me, understand how the "Bat Girl" book with so many spine ticks and the bend corner on back of the book is a 9.2. Input from anyone to help me understand my potentially flawed thinking will be appreciated. I would like to do a better job grading.
  7. The books you pick, are you always in agreement with the grade or do you just pick the books? On the other hand have you addressed this question before and I missed it?
  8. Nice shop- Good Luck......I know demographics\target market makes a big difference but seems comic shops can still work. My LCS in Maryland opened their first shop in 2008\2009 when the economic was stagnant, they just opened their 3rd store in the last 6 months.
  9. I'd say the background characters do a little bit.
  10. Anyone figured out the "1,000"? 80x12=960 months\issues
  11. Thanks to all for the suggested reads!
  12. Isn't the opened comic the first human torch comic (close to the first Marvel comic?) and from those early days these newer characters have sprung forth or something like that.
  13. Is that arc rated for mature audiences only?
  14. I've been a "Marvel" collector and reader pretty exclusively, probably 95% and 5% indies and some DC. I am looking forward to the "Joker" movie coming out next month and I would like to do some reading prior to seeing the movie. Any suggested readings would be greatly appreciated, I no very little about the Joker, I did read the Brian Azzarello "Joker" book 10+ years ago. Thanks........
  15. I read some about Ellison's "Soldier" and other than time travel, seems to be a bit of a stretch to say "Terminator" borrowed from that plot. But others saw it different...settled out of court.
  16. In college in the early eighties, roommates and I would marvel at the personal ads in the village voice.
  17. Another Ultron Question... As a kid in the late sixties and seventies my older brother was the reader of The Avengers and used to talk about Ultron but I didn't know the specific details. These days I know much more about Ultron. Historically speaking I always thought Terminator was a very original and clever plot\concept. But, given what I now know about Ultron, Terminator doesn't seem so original and clever. Am missing something that sets the two apart?
  18. Thanks....so I do have some memory left....
  19. I thought at some point someone takes the head home and ends up on a TV? Now I am not sure....where is Mr. Aldred when you need him
  20. I am back on my Ultron kick..trying to remember the Avengers issue where the kid finds Ultron's head, takes it and puts on the TV.....Am I remembering that right or did I over do it during the 70's?
  21. I thought this reference had something to do with "butt" comment picked up during the game yesterday.
