  1. Couple of things: 1. I am well aware of Adams and Golden and their back catalogs. I am also aware of their influence upon McFarlane. 2. I didn't have to be alive in the 80's, let alone collecting in the 80's, to appreciate the work of the aforementioned artists. I wasn't alive in the 60s, but I can appreciate the Beatles. 3. YOU say that Golden is better than McFarlane, and in the next post you prohibit comparisons of their work...saying that it's "plain ignorant"? Doesn't make sense. You go ahead and line up the comparison anyway you want...McFarlane will smoke him everytime. 4. You are falling prey to sentimentality...the GOOD OLE 80s. Let's destroy all biases...take McFarlane's art and Golden's art to a local shopping mall and ask random people to pick their favorite. No way Golden wins. He doesn't have the same appeal.
  2. Chaucer heavily influenced Shakespeare, but only someone with bad literary taste would prefer the former over the later. Golden did a run on Spawn and in my opinion it was the second worst guest run of the entire series, behind only Erik Larsen. Go do a side-by-side comparison of McFarlane and Golden and explain what you see. McFarlane = McMediocre? I just don't see it and I'm always baffled by the people who do. How many legendary covers does one have to produce before they get any respect. ASM 300 is just one example. How many tributes have been drawn and released?
  3. It's hard to tell, but things seemed to have tightened up around the time they hired extra help in 2015. Maybe the newbies are the ones being tougher on books? As a disclaimer, I mainly deal with 9.8 moderns, so when I say "tight" I'm really referring to the chances of scoring a 9.8 on a fresh book. I have less experience dealing with medium to low grade comics.
  4. October of 2016 was definitely a tight period IMHO.
  5. I absolutely agree with everything you've said here. Especially Kudranski, who seems stylistically perfect for the title. One of the problems with Spawn is that McFarlane can't seem to make up his mind how to market the character. One day it's a kid's character, ala superhero style, and the next day Spawn is dark, evil, and for adults only. That's one of the major problems with the title and the character - an identity crisis.
  6. ...I /do/ have a stack that could use grading.
  7. That's funny. I've seen the opposite. And I don't know what kind of profit you would seek from a VF comic with a print run of over one and a half million copies. 9.8s routinely sell for $100 and 9.9s are topping out at ten times that amount. I should also mention that I will pay up to $300 for some of those issues (not rare variants) in 9.8 condition. Got issues 26, 64, 135, 152, 156, 182, 203, or 212? Contact me to cash in. Those of you with these "worthless" issues need to call me. Just looked up some of those. 26 and 64 are around 2 to 4 bucks. 135 maybe 10 dollars. 152 and 156 i can get for 2 or 3 dollars plus shipping. 9.8 versions of course are more just like every comic but raw nm copies of most spawn comics seem to be pretty cheap. Is there a single spawn comic that's not a rare variant worth 50 dollars raw? Like I said before, if they are that easy to find...then you have a quick way to make a few thousands dollars. I've got a ton of references to back me up. I just paid a very highly-respected boardie $225 for issue 211, for example. It only took him 4 years to find in 9.8 condition. Finding these issues are TOUGH, believe me. Spawn is by far one of the more difficult modern runs to complete. Also, the "gunslinger" issues can draw $50 in raw form...and there are several other issues that come close. No offense, but you need to do more research. Of course, if the books you are finding aren't in NM+ condition, then it's no surprise at all that you can get them for a few dollars.
  8. Daredevil #168 (newstand) 9.6 Star Wars #1 9.6 Strange Tales #110 3.5 Dark Knight Returns #1 9.8 X-Men #94 9.4 Giant Size X-Men #1 9.2 House of Secrets #92 8.0 Marvel Premiere #47 9.8 Amazing Spiderman #129 8.0 Daredevil #158 9.4
  9. Let's remember a few things: Spawn 1 = greatest selling Independent comic of all time. Spawn = 2nd longest running Independent comic of all time, with 270 issues (and counting) compared to 300 issues of Cerebus. Spawn 1 = one of the top five most popularly-graded comics. A toy line that still does millions of dollars worth of business every year. A motion picture release, albeit a horrible (but profitable) movie. An Emmy-award-winning HBO animated series. School backpacks. T-shirts. Cover art appearances on several major-label records. Video games... and IMHO a character with a much better storyline than Deadpool...a much cooler aesthetic... I think as big as Deadpool is now...it still wasn't as big as Spawn in the 90s. and...Harbinger? Um--yuh...
  10. Sorry. That's a very dubious claim. No one outside the comic collecting world cares about Harbinger. I know it's forever ago, but as I've mentioned before, Spawn was mega-huge in the 90s and invaded every aspect of culture. The character was even on the Sopranoes for heaven sake. So yes, I see your theory...and high grade copies of Harbinger may be more valuable per capita, but they aren't going to move in sheer numbers like Spawn 1. I understand your formula, but I think it's flawed.

  12. Peter David Star Trek books are often "straight-up campy fun." Good stuff. I really enjoyed Vendetta.
  13. Although I'm a big fan of the signature series program, I don't believe in getting key books signed. I would greatly prefer an unsigned IH181.
  14. It lasted 2 seasons so I always say it is year 4 and 5 of their 5 year voyage Yep, that`s what I do. Very underrated animated series. I agree. It really was excellent.
  15. What do you mean by both There are FIVE of them! Okay then... 1. TNG 2. TOS 3. DS9 4. Voyager 5. Enterprise I will agree with previous posts about the horrible acting by Avery Brooks as Sisko. Absolutely vapid. Robert Beltran as Chakotay in Voyager was just as bad. I thought DS9 was a real snoozer until the Dominion War - then it got awesome.
  16. Love them both but there is just something about TNG.
