  1. SPAWN 226 - CGC 9.8 You know, I think 225 is probably my least favorite issue in the entire run, with the possible exception of some of the Erik Larsen issues, which are hot garbage. Thankfully, issue 226 is freaking awesome!
  2. I've gotten a few questions concerning the sketch covers. While the covers look perfectly identical, the final page is where you see the difference.
  3. SPAWN 225 ROMNEY WINS SKETCH COVER - CGC 9.8 Is there ANY point to this variant at all?
  4. I visited their competitor's website for the first time today. That is an absolute hot mess of a slab. SCARY! Who on earth is working in encapsulation? Quality control?
  5. SPAWN 225 VARIANT COVER - CGC 9.8 I wonder how the staff meeting went that month... "Hey Todd! I have a great idea on how to sucker more money from collectors!"
  6. A car is considered vintage at 25 years. I know that a mechanical device is different than a book, so it may be comparing apples to oranges, but still... Almost any book published in the 20th century would be considered "vintage" if you went by that definition. Part of the problem is the "modern age" label attached to books which are up to 30 years old now. They need to use more precise language. Of course, they probably stick with the ambiguity of it to protect them in case people raise hades about it. Not a stand-up move, however. Very frustrating. The most infuriating thing is the company's silence on the matter. They've went out of their ways to cut corners. The bean counters are out in full force. First, it started with the lack of proper packing materials. Now it seems like they are saving coin by skipping the microchamber paper. They are practically a monopoly, so they can get away with it. I miss the old days when they cared about people's collectibles. Now it's all about the bottom line. A few cents here. A few cents there.
  7. Isn't this false advertising? The CGC states on their website that all books receive microchamber paper, but they clearly do not. False advertising is an actionable civil claim under Section 43(a) of the Lanham Act. Grounds for a lawsuit? 1. The ads of the opposing party were false or misleading. 2. The ads deceived, or had the capacity to deceive consumers. 3. The deception had a material effect on purchasing decisions.
  8. SPAWN 225 - CGC 9.8 An uninspired homage to an uninspired piece of cover art.
  9. SPAWN 224 black and white - CGC 9.8 Black and white. Sketch. I use the terms interchangeably. Happy Halloween to everyone!
  10. Dang. Just now seeing this! I would have been there!
  11. SPAWN 223 - CGC 9.8 Walking Dead homage released when Walking Dead was peaking...back when it was good to watch...you know...before Glenn died and Negan came along.
  12. Not surprising. The CGC got caught with their pants down. I hope the company can quickly turn back to secure packaging and proper long term preservation. Treat everyone's books like they are worth a million dollars.
  13. SPAWN 222 KURANSKI VARIANT - CGC 9.8 Supposedly fewer than 400 copies, but who really knows? I remember grabbing two raw copies of this one somehow. I knew that one was a slam-dunk 9.8. Turned out both of them were. I made a good deal of coin off the extra. This is such a sweet cover. I love it! One of my favorite variants.
  14. SPAWN 222 SKETCH COVER - CGC 9.8 I don't know why anyone would call McFarlane a "bad artist." I love the crazy detail brought out by this particular black and white. Tomorrow we will revisit what may very well be my favorite variant Spawn cover of all time! Stay tuned!
  15. SPAWN 221 - SKETCH EDITION - CGC 9.8 Sorry! I could have sworn I posted this last night. Alas...
  16. It MIGHT cause some damage to the holder itself, but it's very possible for the book to be damaged while the holder remains intact. Could have been dropped on carpet. Could have been dropped hard inside the box (the CGC doesn't pack well these days, from what I hear). My first thought was "the book was dropped or slammed." It's a possibility that shouldn't be ruled out. I don't think it's the holder design. Hundreds of thousands of them are out there. If it were a holder design, we'd see this sort of damage far more often.
  17. I've definitely placed a few high value reholders on hold. Just too rare and expensive to risk this nonsense. Hopefully the CGC will make it right.
  18. No way. They are trash compared to the new ones. This damage looks like it's due to mishandling, not the design of the slab. Slabs aren't meant to be dropped.
  19. SPAWN 221 - CGC 9.8 Amazing Fantasy 15 homage! Issue 220 kicked off a massive series of homage covers. I'm pretty partial to McFarlane's work, and I must say that he really knocked it out of the park with these! I can't think of a single bad homage cover in this little run of the series, and I look forward to sharing them all with you! These are all very desirable issues.
