  1. I use three sheets for each of my raw books. One behind the front cover, one in the centerfold, and one in front of the back cover. I don't expect CGC to go overkill, but a single sheet would work wonders. But hey! Anything to save a few quarters.
  2. SUPER LAME! No excuse. Jack up the fees. Cut WAY back on the materials needed to properly ship our collectibles. Now they aren't even taking the proper steps to conserve them. CGC has some explaining to do. Very disappointing news.
  3. SPAWN 220 - SAVAGE DRAGON VARIANT - CGC 9.8 Awesome homage cover by Todd! If you are a fan of Larsen's, I will give you warning in advance. I will tear HARD into his run on Spawn. Prepare to be offended.
  4. 1. That's extremely unfortunate! I'm so sorry! 2. The damage is there for sure. But as you can clearly see, unfortunately, there will be much more apparent damage than a series of spine tics! I was just saying that postage mishandling isn't going to lead to localized damage like spine tics (that's probably the fault of the presser...I mean...butcher).
  5. SPAWN 200 COLLECTOR'S EDITION - CGC 9.8 Kudranski's black and white homage to issue one...
  6. SPAWN 220 - SKETCH EDITION - CGC 9.8 Oh look! Another black and white cover! Only a million more to go!
  7. SPAWN 220 - CGC 9.8 An homage cover 20 issues after the original? Come on, Todd. Here come the variants folks. A gigantic flood of them that would wear me out and make me quit.
  8. SPAWN 219 CONVENTION EDITION - CGC 9.8 - SIGNED BY MICHAEL GOLDEN AND JON GOFF I love the way the signature placement and the red ink turned out! This was a beautiful signature series book! I almost always picked the placement and the ink color. The cover says 500 were printed, although I will forever be skeptical of publisher's claims after the latest Spawn variant fiasco (#306 Netherrealm edition).
  9. No idea. I worked with Gemma at CGC a little bit back in the day. At least we were able to straighten a few things out. You will definitely see inconsistency when comparing different copies of the same issue that were graded at different times.
  10. SPAWN 219 - CGC 9.8 Kind of easy to see what Todd and Michael added here. Both styles are apparent. Nice collaboration.
  11. SPAWN 218 - CGC 9.8 Definitely one of the better Spawn covers from Michael Golden. I just can't help but feel like this was the most "meh" stretch of the entire series. I have NO idea why they didn't have Kudranski doing the covers. I'll probably be posting some interior shots soon. That's where Kudranski was best.
  12. I mean, anything is possible. That doesn't make it likely. In both instances, there would be other damage like massive folds, bends, or ripples across the cover. But a series of color-breaking spine tics? Highly unlikely that's the fault of the postal carrier.
  13. If you like throwing your money away, send some my way. Seriously. If it's a slam dunk 9.8 why on earth would you send it off for pressing? INSANE. You think you're going to turn it into a 9.9 or a 10? It doesn't work that way.
  14. .... Postal handling isn't going to cause color breaking spine tics unless they are removing the book, manipulating the book, and repacking it before sending it through.
  15. I absolutely agree that the packaging has been on a downhill slide for YEARS. It seems like things were taken very seriously until 6 or 7 years ago. They started skimping here and there and now this? I haven't submitted in a few years. I have some very expensive and scarce Golden Age that could use a reholder, but I've read too much about the decline of quality control and the shipping department. I'll be holding off until this is resolved. I hope the CGC sees this. It's a real concern. For as much as we pay, there is zero excuse to skimp on packaging.
  16. I'm just now discovering that Chicago didn't always suck. What a discovery it is!
  17. The rules here do not allow you to sell here and on eBay at the same time.
  18. SPAWN 216 BLACK AND WHITE - CGC 9.8 Oh look! A variant! Get ready. We are about to dive in all the way. Soon, every issue will have a variant of some sort. Let the madness begin!
  19. Just for clarification, I don't have an issue with the nature of this thread. Keeping the focus on public sales is the only fair way to compile such a list. I just had an issue with the following statement: "...that's still more than anything this book has ever sold for in any grade.". That just isn't true. The language was imprecise and sloppy. Should have said, "that's still more than any public sale of this book." Also, pay attention to Ryan's definition of "private sale." He was spot on. Someone mentioned tax evasion. That's a widespread problem throughout the hobby, and it's certainly not limited to "private sales."
  20. SPAWN 216 - CGC 9.8 First McFarlane cover in ages, and what a relief it was! Also, looks like McFarlane is back in terms of writing. At this point he's finally abandoned the pen name "Will Carlton." Hard to believe Spawn is now 31 years old. For perspective, the Fantastic Four were 31 years old back in 1992.
