  1. I don't think this thread is tasteless because it is pretty much academic in nature. It's okay to discuss an artist's work in critical fashion. In fact, I'm sure Stan was used to criticism and would have welcomed a discussion about the merits and weaknesses of his work. Evaluating his legacy as an artist is MUCH different from trying to profit immediately after the man's death. I am well aware that we live in a (largely) free market society, and there is nothing illegal or wrong with trying to "cash in". But the man has been picked at by swarming vultures over the last few years, and it makes the sort of shameless display we saw in the sales forum that much harder to swallow.
  2. The first one looks more exciting. The second one looks sexier. Tough call. I really do think it's a coin-flip. My brain keeps going back and forth, but my initial impression was in favor of the first design.
  3. I honestly experienced a sinking feeling when I saw it. "Here we go," I thought.
  4. Are you kidding? Someone already has a Stan Lee thread going in the sales forum.
  5. Here is an interesting spin-off question... how many books go EXTINCT every...day...year...decade?
  6. Rest in piece good friend, with the knowledge that you changed the world by putting smiles on faces throughout the world.
  7. ....and in the end it doesn't matter if you agree or not. That's just the way things are...and the way they have been for years and years. If you don't like stamps or writing, then don't buy the book. It's called a free market.
  8. Simple. Overstreet grading guidelines (and presumably the CGC's grading guidelines) allow date stamps on NM+ and NM/M books. They are not penalized as long as they are in an "unobtrusive" place. Fingerprints are considered damage and greatly impact grades at the higher levels.
  9. 10% off listed asking price. Shipping is included! Will be pulled Sunday afternoon.
  10. They are totally online. The warehouse is used to house their stock. Basically, just imagine a Costco full of row after row of longboxes, stacked to the ceiling. I got lucky enough to see it because I sold a massive collection to them and chose to personally deliver it to them. I was given a quick look around while I was there. I saw everything but "the vault".
  11. Just keep in mind that it's a secured warehouse and not a storefront. They usually don't let people inside, but one guy told me he thought it would be a good idea to start offering tours. I shouldn't say a whole lot about it, really, but it was a cool experience and a very impressive building.
  12. I've seen a few pinks, never a blue.
  13. I still think you should get the death penalty for getting a pedigree signed.
  14. I'd take Captain 1 over Batman 1 without a moment's hesitation.
  15. I've visited Lonestar's warehouse in person, and I've met a majority of the employees there. I've also done tens of thousands of dollars (no hyperbole intended) of business with them. I've never had a bad experience. Absolutely top notch.
  16. Been this way for a while now. Half of the 9.8s existing today would likely be 9.6s if they were resubbed.
  17. Yep. Back in my early days of slab collecting, I didn't watch carefully enough and ended up buying one of those slabs, thinking it was an older CGC blue label. Grading was as horrible as you'd expect.
  18. FOR SALE - one copy of Spawn: Godslayer TPB - CGC 9.8. Not the easiest book to run across. $40 SHIPPED TO USA! PayPal Goods and Services accepted as always.

My kudos can be found by going HERE. I look forward to doing business with you!
  20. How are they going to get by the certification verification numbers?
  21. Oh wow! Bummer. I looked into their products before. They looked sweet!
  22. Relatively speaking, yes. Low print. All of the 150s are tough, but 156 is the one I could never find. Tough black cover with really poor paper stock. Every copy I could find was 9.0 at best. Very, very tough book. None on the census in any grade, last I checked. I think that is unique for a Spawn book BTW.
